Bomber bottle, "bottled 12/9-16"

Pours the expected near black, minor mocha cap quickly goes to a thin collar and leaves some nice looking super fine sheeting and low fields of lace. Nice look for this style

Dark malts, black coffee and a back note of chili peppers on the nose.

On the palate it is again, coffee, also dark chocolate, scorched chili pepper and moderate and quite noticeable chili burn/heat. As with most hotter chili beers this will not be for everybody, but if you are a fan and like heat...this is a no-brainer....pick up a bottle and enjoy it fresh while the chili is still churning and firing up your taste buds...tasty stuff...

Beautiful BA brew: thick dark tan head with very good retention and tons of lacing, all sitting modestly atop a purplish-black body, transparent at the edges.

The aroma foreshadows the flavor, with huge, vegetal notes of habaneros, cocoa powder, oak, and sugary rum.

On the palate, huge notes of chocolate, along with lesser notes of coffee, provide the bulk of the malt experience, with a touch of roasty char just to round out the base. The habaneros are apparent from the first moment, with a green, vinous, vegetal flavor, and plenty of heat - but with enough restraint to remain eminently drinkable. Perhaps the best balance of a spicy pepper I've ever had in a beer.

And then there's the rum! Masterfully integrated into the overall profile, the rum provides sweet notes of caramel and sugar, along with a duller oak tone. It is a perfect balance of influence and dominance, asserting its presence without ever becoming the main feature.

Mouthfeel: 11%? I'm in trouble. This is thick, delectable, wonderful, and very, very addictive. Far too easy to drink!

What a wonderful beer! I'm going to run out and buy quite a few; it's that good.

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with 2+ fingers of pillowy mocha colored head. Average head retention & lacing, viscious

S: Coffee & chocolate, figs

T: Follows the nose with plenty of pepper heat, plus dryness up front. More heat & chocolate as this warms & some faint figgyness. Finishes with plenty of heat, dryness, a & little charred grain & rummy molasses notes

MF: Fairly thick, moderate carbonation

A good Imp Sout with a little to much heat for me to be truly on board with, but glad I tried it

Seldom let down by Clown Shoes barrel-aged beer. A finger of head forms and settles to a thin cap. Sticky lacing is left down the glass. The rum barrel makes itself known immediately in the aroma. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, earth, and some tropical fruit. First sip seems like a straight up rum barrel-aged stout until the chile heat bites and burns the back of the throat. The tropical fruit notes of the chile compliments the beer's more forward flavors of rum, vanilla, and chocolate. Alcohol is barely detected. The heat also helps cut the sweet nature of the stout. Large body and smoothly carbonated. Lovely texture.

Pours a dark black with a small tan head. Smells of peppers, sweet chocolate, spice (cinnamon, cardamom), and some roasted malts. Tastes of habaneros, milk chocolate, roasted malts, some alcohol, and spices. Medium-heavy with light carbonation and some mild heat (only on the back of the throat). Overall a very good chili imperial stout.

Pours a small fizzy head that fades quickly, very dark black beer with hints of light coming through the thin parts.

NOse is somewhat like a Black Tuesday, lots of roasted barley, a bit of char and acrid burnt malts, big dark chocolate, chocolate pudding skin, a little fudge and nougat, burnt caramel and creme brulee, a little sweet candy rum, vanilla barrel, butterscotch, a little booze tingles the nose, faint peppery notes

Taste brings a lot more roast and chocolate, big dark chocolate, fudge, cocoa, etc, a little milk chocolate burnt lactose thing, with loads more roast but not burnt or acrid really this time, some burnt caramel though, and chocolate pudding, nougat, etc. Quickly comes the pepper heat, a fair heat combines with the alcohol for a tingle, a little habanero flavor but barely, thick creamy beer sits on the tongue, almost chewy, with more fudge caramel nougat and toffee notes adding candy bar characters, some vanilla barrel and a little fruity sweet rum but not much. Finish is sticky sweet, a little alcohol burning the nostrils even, tons of pepper heat lingering, and caramel creme brulee with cocoa.

Mouth is heavier bod, thick and chewy, plenty of pepper heat and alcohol burn, decent carb.

Overall thankfully it at least delivers nicely on the pepper heat, and nice base beer, wish the rum was more, and wish the habanero flavor itself was more, I love the flavor of habaneros. A slow sipper beer that is fairly enjoyable.

Jet black and viscous. Rum barrel is the main character in this one, followed by the vanilla and then the pepper heat comes last but not overpowering. Enjoyed this one!!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/19/2017. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, cinnamon, spiced rum, toasted oak, habanero peppers, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, marshmallow, coffee, smoke, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, habanero peppers, spices, and rum barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, cinnamon, spiced rum, toasted oak, habanero peppers, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, marshmallow, coffee, smoke, dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pepper spiciness; with light roast bitterness and rum/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, cinnamon, spiced rum, toasted oak, habanero peppers, dark bread, light coconut/marshmallow, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness one the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, habanero peppers, spices, and rum barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and pepper spiciness balance; with no astringent spice flavors after the finish. Light dryness from pepper spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol, with no barrel booziness for 11%. Increasing pepper heat through the glass, but never overwhelming. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged Mexican imperial chocolate stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, habanero peppers, spices, and rum barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV; even with the increasing pepper heat/spice. Great base beer presence with a nice sized kick of peppers. Not anywhere near the hottest pepper beer I’ve had, but still more spicy/peppery than most Mexican stouts; due to being not quite as thick, rich, and malty as some others. A really enjoyable offering. Definitely delivers on the label description.
