A- Wow, I'm immediately impressed with the coloration of this pours a thick 5W30 motor oil color and with a similar texture! The head is a medium toned caramel/toffee color and it starts out several fingers thick before settling reasonably quick into a big bubbled layer over the eventually settles to a ring around the inside of my glass. Lacing is very good with thick, stringy artsy patches clinging to the inside of the glass and I cannot see the caronation of course.

S- Right away I get some sort of watered down coffee aroma, but this is probably not a fair assessment, as after a couple of whiffs, I notice subdued spices like cinnamon, chicory root, chocolate bitterness, beer nut sweetness and various dark malts, ranging from black, chocolate, and toasted caramel.....nothing to write home about but it smells good!

T- Milky chocolate is the initial taste happening, with underlying flavors of cream, vanilla, milk coffee, black french press coffee, fresh beans, some slight spice (licorice root, cinnamon), some nuttiness and a finish that is semi sweet, and lingers long after the taste. Overall a well rounded Milk Stout profile.

M/O- Medium-Full bodied, this is a very smooth beer with uniform yet low carbonation, allowing the textures and flavors to really shine. I find the alcohol to be well hidden, and this is quite drinkable for something that does fill up the belly rather well. This becomes quite a nice brew the longer you let it sit, and I don't normally do this, but I'm really savoring this one and it has paid off! Will pick up again, and I recommend!

Poured from 16oz can into glass. Bottom of can is stamped with 'Canned On 032 02/01/18 12:04'.
Cola dark body with brown highlights when presented to light. Two finger head upon pouring settles to islands and ring. Lots of scattered spots of lacing.
Aroma of coffee is very evident upon opening of the can. Coffee note is also prevalent from the glass, along with dark roasted malts, and sweet lactose.
Taste is dark roasted coffee, combined with sweet lactose from the milk stout. Dark roasted malts also are involved. Bit of spicy hops.
Mouth feel is medium. Supportive carbonation.
There is not much product description about this beer on the Clown Shoes website or elsewhere on line. Vietnamese coffee is strong, dark roasted, and bitter (Robusta), and is usually mixed with condensed milk to sweeten. I take it this beer is a variation on this theme - combining the dark roasted coffee with a sweet (lactose) milk stout. Also Vietnamese coffee is often served iced, which is similar to a chilled beer. Thus this beer is presented as a brewed beverage balanced between the bitter, strong coffee and the sweet milk stout, which is an interesting recipe approach.

16oz can - nice to see these being released in a more affordable single serving format!

This beer pours a fairly solid black abyss, with the scantest of amber basal edges, and four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy brown head, which leaves some scattered soap scum lace around the glass as it slowly but surely abates.

It smells of lightly roasted, bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, quite subtle cafe-au-lait notes, a faint dark orchard fruitiness, some anise spice, and very tame earthy, musty, and floral hops. The taste is semi-sweet, grainy and bready caramel malt, rich medium chocolate, ethereal roasted coffee beans, cold cream, some indistinct black stone fruit, real vanilla, brown sugar syrup, mild black licorice, and more well-understated earthy, herbal, and floral green hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a touch of wet ashiness the proverbial fly in the ointment here. It finishes off-dry, the caramel, cocoa, and milky essences lingering with the most gusto.

Overall - yeah, the purported Vietnamese dark roast coffee doesn't really follow through in this offering, which is otherwise a respectable version of the style. Balanced, and easy to put back, especially with the expertly integrated extra two points of the ol' wowee sauce. Good stuff, just marketed incorrectly, IMHO.

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2+ fingers of tan colored head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Coffee & cream

T: Follows the, roastyness & dryness as well up front. A touch of vanilla, roastyness & mocah as this warms, plenty of dryness as well. Finishes dry, roasty with a little lactose & just a touch of sweet coffee

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

A good effort, but was hoping for better, still worth a go

I don't often go the milk stout route, but I liked the idea of the Vietnamese coffee so I figured I'd give it a go... Black-bodied under a dark foam head, kicking up aromas of roasted coffee and malt... Medium-light feel, smooth and thin... Flavors bring some char and espresso and pecan; bitterness on par with the sweetness - I wouldn't call it dry by any stretch, but I was glad the sugars were moderate... Decent enough beer, but nothing that changed my tastes regarding the style... 2/1/18 canning...

A: The beer is very dark brown in color and appears opaque when held up to a bright light. It poured with a finger high tan head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a small collar around the edge of the glass, with lots of specks of bubbles clinging to the sides.
S: Light aromas of milk chocolate and cold coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: Following the smell, the taste has flavors of coffee beans with a slight bit of roast and notes of milk chocolate. A faint amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer has a good balance between flavors of coffee and chocolate. Any traces of alcohol are very well hidden.

The beer pours a nice brown head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a dark coffee black that looks pretty nice. IT has a slight sheen to it like it's melted chocolate. It looks nice.

The smell is good. It has a nice contrast between the milk stout notes and the dark coffee notes.

The taste is good. It has a nice roasted note that mixes well with the creamier chocolate notes.

The feel is good. It has a light and creamy body.

Overall, pretty good and I wouldn't mind a second.

Canned on 2/1/18. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a big fluffy khaki head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are subtle and malt forward. Hints of smoke, anise, milk and cocoa. I'm not really getting any coffee in the aroma department. The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. Cocoa leads the way along with some marshmallows. The lactose is noticeable. More hints of smoke. The coffee flavors almost go completely unnoticed. Strong malt backbone. There's a moderate sweetness, but nothing crazy. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the fuller side of medium-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. It's creamy, fluffy, velvety and smooth.

This is a solid milk stout, but the coffee doesn't really come through. It might not be anything crazy, but it's not bad at all. It's still enjoyable and fun to drink.

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted malts with moderate aromas of lactose sweetness and light to moderate aromas of cocoa and dark roasted coffee.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of cocoa and roasted coffee. Light to moderate amounts of lingering roasty bitterness in the finish.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and really pleasant aromas + flavors though I would have appreciated a little more strength/intensity to the Vietnamese coffee presence. Enjoyable.

Canned 2/01/18
Pours a nice fluffy creamy rich 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, bit of lacing, pitch black beer

Nose freshly roasted coffee out front, a little burnt coffee and char, a touch nutty and a bit of creamy lactose, some burnt caramel and little dark chocolate

Taste brings sweet malts, creamy lactose milk stout, milk chocolate and coffee milk, more roasted coffee, dark roast char, a bit of burnt lactose and burnt caramel, earthy dry roasted coffee grounds, cocoa, touch of chewy nougat, and medium bitterness mostly from the roasted malts, lactose sticky but drier finish, lingering coffee grounds floating in milk

Mouth is med to a bit heavier bod, decent carb, a bit creamy lactose but no real alcohol

Overall not bad, very dark roasted coffee but blended fairly well with the lactose and malts.
