Had a sample of this at a tasting Marty's Liquors in Newton, MA today and picked up a bomber.

Pours a deep reddish brown and a nice off white head that fades to a clinging lace.

So this looks like your typical brown ale till you get a wiff of the strong citrusy and even fruity hops... a nice surprise. Caramel and roast malts carry through as well.

Roast, caramel, and sweet malts are balanced with a powerful fruity/citrusy hop bitterness, especially in the finish.

Decent mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Definitely drinkable, and this is a tribute to the great balance.

This is really a nice blend of a true brown with some serious hops. A great beer from Mercury!

For starters, this is about the hoppiest brown ale you'll find. It pours a slightly hazy brown mahogany color with a decent off white head and a bunch of lace throughout the glass. The nose is very unassertive, with some vague sweet malts, maybe a touch of caramel, maybe some dark malts. I had to stick my nose in the glass to get much of anything.

The beer is pretty hoppy. There are Columbus, Goldings, and Amarillo hops present. There is a spicy and herbal hop presence, with some estery bittering and grassy hop coming through as well. The spicy malt and caramel and slightly charred brown sugars add a bit of balance to this rather full bodied affair. There is a bit of ABV in the finish. The beer is not all that smooth, but it is much more than a prickly sipper of a beer, that's for sure. I'm also getting some crystal malts in the beer and brown sugars as the beer settles in a bit. This is a good beer with a rather limited distribution, for now.

Poured from a cask into my pint glass. Furious cloud of activity with a flat brown color, the cask ale definitely looks unfiltered. Not too much head but good lacing on the glass.

Not much aroma to be had, but it being a brown and having this in a BBQ joint I didn't hold this against it. The taste opens up with a very smooth and sweet malty flavor, then the hops kick in. The bitterness from the hops makes its presence known but isn't so strong that it overpowers the malt. The result is a nice sweet taste up front, with a snappy finish. Hops flavor quickly fades on the aftertaste and doesn't linger longer than it is welcome. The medium body agrees with this style, with enough substance to make itself known but not feeling too sticky.

The balance is great and I could definitely drink a few of these. The sweet malt and hoppy taste blend together well and then fades at the end so as not to overpower your taste buds.

This is NOT your old school brown, but rather a sexy american interpretation.

22 oz bomber seriously sexy label.

A: Dark dark brown with hints of garnet red in the sunlight.

S: Smells really good with nutty malts upfront and a strong hop backbone thats rare with a brown ale. ( in other words smells AWESOME!)

T: The taste might possibly knock the socks right off of you, it has a brown ale taste up front but the amazing hops dominate the finish for a 1 of a kind taste.

M: The Mouthfeel is very pleasent as this brew quenches my thirst as well being somewhat dry. spot on carbonation as well.

D: I could drink this beer for many different occasions, an amazing brown ale indeed I highly recommend to anybody.

Appearance: clear, orange/brown in color, 1/4 inch head, medium carbonation

Smell: fruit, toasted malt, hops, and brown sugar

Taste: toffee, hops, brown sugar, and a touch of nut and chocolate

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, medium/light bodied, mix of bitter and sweet

Drinkability: I could sip these for a while. This is a nice hoppy and balanced brown ale. Very complex for the style.
