Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of an eggshell foamy white head. Sly messy lace. The aroma had some roasted malts, light floral hop tones, light orange peel, light coffee beans and ended with a touch of dark chocolate. The flavor was somewhat roasty with that floral quality sweetness. Some bitterness from the orange peel but really not that noticeable. Aftertaste was mainly the roasted malts and dark chocolate. Finished with the same but brought in a touch of that orange peel bitterness. The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Mild carbonation and the ABV felt appropriate. Overall, as a black IPA, well, it somewhat works, but as I normally associate the style with "palate wrecking" capabilities, I didn’t really see that with this one.

Black pour, minimal head, 1/4", beige in color. Tiny bit of grapefruit hoppiness to it.
Taste had a lot of the bitterness that black ales that aren't world class can't seem to avoid. Bitter, dry, chalky, gritty at times. Hops need to impart more than just bitterness. Came off like a blend of a hoppy porter/black ipa.
