A: Clear copper in color. Forms a large tan-tinted whitish colored head. Excellent retention and some moderate lacing.

S: Smell is fairly hoppy, but also somewhat unbalanced. The aroma starts off with a strong dose of orange before turning more floral and a bit herbal or medicinal. There is a slight malty sweetness.

T: Starts off with a floral-citrus sweetness, almost like orange juice followed by a strong pine resin bitterness. Bitterness turns aggressive with black pepper and spice. Backbone is mild caramel malts. Finish is long and drawn out with a persistent spicy bitterness. When I first popped this beer, there was also a noticeable bubble-gum quality, an odd flavor in an IPA, but it seems to have faded as the beer warmed.

M: Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation and a strong bitterness. Starts sweet, but finishes quite dry.

O: Not a bad beer. There are certainly lots of hops in this one, but the hops just don't seem to play well together leaving this beer feeling as if it is missing something. Maybe more malts to balance out the aggressive bitterness. Maybe less bittering hops to let the flavors come out. However, still a pretty good brew at a decent price.

22 oz bomber pours a murky deep amber. Nice foamy head and good lacing. Aroma is citrus and earthy hops with sweet malt. Piney, citrus, and earthy hops with sweet malt. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Nice dry finish but has that oversweet aftertaste you sometimes get with imperials. This is a solid Imperial IPA in the West Coast style.

Appearance: Amber body shows excellent clarity and holds a modest cover that laces.

Smell: Crystal malt sugary base with a heady hop perfume. Hops are citric and aromatic.

Taste: Harshly bitter hop oils soak in and punish for a while. Really crushes all other flavor. Hops are a bit more earthy and tea like in the taste than the nose. The intensity hides any alcohol flavor but there is a fair amount of heat in the mix.

Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation, oily thick texture with a long fade and a slight numbing.

Overall: Powerful stuff. Pretty much a hop delivery system, I dare say they may have gone too far. This could use a little more malt, or a few less hops.... I never thought I'd say that.
Nay, this has gone too far. I'm going to drink and enjoy, but can't see coming back for more any time soon.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, bottle dated 1/12, its fresh. Pours a hazy reddish orange, with a 1 inch sticky white head, that laces the glass nicely. Smell tangerine, grass, pine, earthy hops, and grapefruit. Taste starts off really smooth with balance and finishes with a huge hit of grapefruit that stings in a good way. Body easy medium to large, with a nice amount of carbonation, maybe a little dry, and very drinkable for a IPA fan. May scare the non hop heads. I like this, more along the lines of a Ruination or Hop Wallup for bitterness, but more body like Maharaja or Green Flash Imp IPA.

Pours a solid orange with a nice white head that laces.

Smells of pine and citrus hops. Nice nose but not overwhelming. Could use more hop aroma, but what is there is pleasing.

Taste is pine hop up front that mixes with grapefruit that fades into a bitter middle and finish with the hop and some bready malt lingering. A-typical west coast style IPA.

A bit heavier bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a well done west-cost style IPA that fits along side Green Flash. There is enough balance to enjoy the citrus and pine flavors present.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet flavors of citrus and caramel. Then a strong hops bitterness comes in but it’s a bit on the weak side for the style. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, although there are other beers in the style that I would pick first this is still a solid beer.

22oz bottle into a snifter - bottled 12/2011

A: Pours a clear amber with a nice off-white head that fades to a bubbly layering and leaves a ton of sticky lacing on the glass.

S: The nose is full of fruity hops and sweet malt. Nothing super special but it smells tasty. It's not as hoppy as I was expecting but it is a month old.

T: The taste reveals more of the DIPA I was expecting. Starts with a blast of grapefruit which moves to a sweet tropical fruit flavor and ends with more of that grapefruit bitterness.

M: The feel is medium bodied and creamy with a slightly oily finish.

O: Not bad even with a month of age. I will have to check this out when it comes around again to see if it's really the hop bomb all the other reviews are mentioning. It's pretty balanced right now though.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a 12oz stemmed tulip

A- Hazy orange with a white, fluffy 1+" head.

S- Citrus (Grapefruit & Orange), Piney, Floral...all the earmarks of a tasty, hop-forward, West Coast Imperial IPA

T- All aromas present in the flavor finishing dry and bitter with an adequate malt backbone. Again, all West Coast Imperial IPA traits

M- Smooth, unoffensive but adequate carbonation courtesy of the fungi known as yeast.

O- Although slightly unbalanced and hop-forward, this brew represents the West Coast IIPA very well. It has it all...aroma, taste and mouthfeel. Although not for all, East Coast hop heads can rejoice with a brew that has come to define a region nothing short of 3,000 miles away. Highly quaffable.

Split a 22oz w/ two of my buddies.

A- looks nice! A hazy burnt orange with a nice 1 finger off white head, decent lacing, a good lookin beer.

S- citrus hops, piney hops, malts, smells like a delicious hop forward IPA.

T- starts with fruity hops an ends with bitter pine, good flavor, finish is dry and bitter, coats the mouth and leaves a lingering bitter after taste, which i am not a fan of. Almost reminds me of having out a bitter stick of soap in my mouth.

M- medium body with medium carbonation, a good mouthfeel for the style, Until the dry bitter finish

O- a decent brew, not my favorite, the bitter after taste really turns me off....

pours out a dark burnt orange. a full finger of off white head recedes rather quickly while leaving a lot of lacing. the nose on this is mainly pine and malts with a touch of citrus in the back. taste is bitter pine and bready malts with more bitterness for the finish. mouthfeel is medium body with decent carbonation. real oily and bitter with a long dry bitter finish. overall i feel this beer missed the mark. it's overly bitter and unbalanced. clown shoes is usually a hit for me, but this is the first miss i've had from them.
