Dark black. Mocha head.
Smell is chocolate. Dark chocolate. Alcohol. Taste is booze, chocolate. Roasted malts. I'm not getting any peppers. Unsure if I'd drink again.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is jet black, with a wispy, thin, bubbly, halo of tan head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, chili pepper spice and heat, vanilla, heavy cinnamon, and subtle mocha and earthy tones. Flavors are pepper spice and heat forward, with a follow of rich Mexican chocolate, both milky and gritty, followed by a blend of milk, heavy dose of cinnamon, some earthy undertones, and hints of roasted coffee. Pretty dynamic on the palate, but the cinnamon comes off slightly heavy handed. It works though. The body is big and chewy, with a dry undertone, all supporting a solid linger of chocolate, vanilla, chili pepper, and cinnamon for the aftertaste. The finish is slow, dry, and with a solid linger of chocolate and spice. Pretty decent brew.

12 oz bottle poured into a stem glass. Bottled on 7/30/15

LOOK: Almost pitch black, cola brown at the edges, with a thin, short lived brown head.

SMELL: A mix of bitter cocoa and sweet dark chocolate, with some extra creamy vanilla sweetness rounding it out. Faint spicy herbal/pepper notes tickle the nasal passages, allow with some licorice, brown sugar, and smokiness.

TASTE: Nice taste! Even better than the small. Lots of different types of chocolate; dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and baking cocoa, creamy vanilla, woody oaky notes, brown sugar, licorice, and burnt toast. Very faint herbal, black pepper and spice notes keep it interesting, but never distracting or overpowering. Faint coffee notes on the back end as well.

FEEL: Medium-full bodied. Easy drinking up front, but turns creamy in the middle. Nice medium-light carbonation. Finishes fairly clean, only a lightly chocolate aftertaste.

OVERALL: I was pretty impressed by this, my first Mexican hot chocolate-style stout. Very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this and buy it again.

Chocolate, coffee, roasted notes, burnt notes, vanilla sweetness, cinnamon, and the chiles come thru nicely with some spice/heat on the back end. You get hints of the booze but nothing crazy. And you get some lingering bitterness from the coffee as well but nothing overwhelming.

Overall - This is a nice stout. The ancho chiles really add to the flavor. The chocolate doesn't come thru as much as I was expecting though. I would drink this again.

Very good. A little lacking in the chili peppers and cinnamon departments, but it's still a good stout nonetheless (just an underwhelming Mexican stout). Here goes:

A: Just alright. Pours pitch black but without head or lacing. Probably a specific gravity issue.

S: Starts off slow but opens up in the glass. Mostly darkened malt: chocolate, coffee, etc. A hint of cinnamon and chili peppers, but this is underwhelming.

T: Follows the nose and tastes good. Only problem is that the beer's not nearly spicy enough. Lots of chocolate, cacao, coffee. Leaves a sweet taste at the back of the palate, which is good considering the style. Hints of cinnamon and chili peppers linger moments after consumption, but these were the only spices I had detected.

F: Nice and thick. Great.

O: A good beer, but I wouldn't classify it as a Mexican stout.

Served in a pint from a 12oz. Bottle here at tapcity grille in cape cod, MA.

Appearance: Thin black body with brown tints. (Light tan) Head is subtle maybe half a finger's length with a vigorous pour. Settles after one sip.

Smell: Mocha scent, comes off pretty potent considering the different smells of food that are hovering through my nostrils.

Taste: Chocolate and coffee with a sweet bitterness. Like the kind you get when you chew off roasted coffee bean. Very good and a level or so above the beer I had yesterday...considering they are the same style.

Mouth: Medium bodied and super sticky.

Overall: Very good brew, to not recommended it is just evil. Drink with love and paired with football, just feels even better. Salud!

12oz, bottled on 05/01/2015
A - near black body with a very thin, foamy, tan head
S - dark chocolate, roasty malt, caramel, raisin, vanilla, very faint chili
T - roasted barley, dark chocolate, raisin & dark fruit, caramel, pumpernickel bread crust, vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, not overly spicy but you can tell the ancho chili is in there, which adds to the complexity and brings out the chocolate
M - full body, creamy and smooth, modest carbonation, finishes roasty with some spicy heat on the end
O - I really dig this one. Great use of the added ingredients creating a uniquely complex and flavorful imperial stout!
