Notes: This is Blaecorn Unidragon made with Beechwood Smoked malt, which adds a natural meaty note (there is no actual meat in the brew). Aged 100% bourbon barrels. Little piggies run, squeal to the heavens: Clown Shoes wishes you luck.

Thanks Flynn. More weekend reviews, all from full notes taken to computer at the time.

A- Pitch black pour comes from a 22oz bottle into three pint glasses with an oily, thick pitch black body. A tan cap forms with frothy texture and falls to a big ring. The ring has huge bubbles and deposits spots of lace here and there.

S- Smoky and roasty and for me that is pretty much most of what comes to mind here. Deep dark chocolate and charred grains with beachwood smoked malts; not quite full-on campfire and seaweed but still something smoked with a hint of caramel.

T- Roastiness comes on full speed here with decadent bittersweet chocolate coming to mind with charred grains, coffee and burnt sugar. Beechwood smoked malts provide the other main aspect of the flavor with a smoky but not so camp-firey feel overall. Raisin, brown sugar, oak, vanilla, Bourbon and cocoa powder come to mind.

MF- Fairly thick bodied with a chewy, oily and frothy consistency battering down the palate. Carbonation is at a medium level and it finishes quite warm but that compliments the smoky and roasty flavors.

The smokiness seems to overshadow the barrels just a bit but for me that is the key this beer. It delivers a rich roast malt character with a big smoked grain aspect and barrel hints; it all balances out nicely. I think this is the third time I have had this beer and it still holds up very well.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 6/10/13 cheers MasterSki and Sean9689 for sending the bottle

A looks black but the edge goes nearly half way to the other side of the glass, short lived finger of mocha foam fizzes out leaving no lace, legs try to form down the side

S loads of wood both barrel and char, smokey bourbon or maybe just smoke in general, some pipe tobacco, campfire ash, vanilla, cinnamon, some dark chocolate, licorice, lots of booze and faint burnt bacon

T more booze and barrel, lots of ash and char, some espresso I wasn't smelling, pretty solid but lots of booze burnt notes of all sorts

M not quite full, some tannins, lots of heat and more smokey burnt notes linger on the finish

O ultra dark smokey roast and big bourbon barrel booze, needs age but smells great and other then the booze popping up shes solid, I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on a 12.5% monster for being boozy

If I had a second bottle I'd sit on it for a while, I enjoyed today it but see long term potential but I won't get find out.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a GI Clybourn snifter.

A- pours black with a 1 finger dark tan head. Big webs and blotches of lacing remain on the glass.

S- big chocolate amd coffee aromas, faint bourbon and some vanilla.

T- bitter chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, and some bitter roast at the finish.

M- full body and medium carbonation. Slight heat, slick and lighter feel.

O- good RIS, not a big barrel influence but its there. Nice coffee, chocolate and some vanilla notes in this beer is a plus.

A: Dark/pitch black with about 1/2inch of off white head that slowly dissipates. Lovely!!!!

S: Very nice smoked malt aroma!!! It has lots of toffee, coffee, caramel, vanilla aroma. lots of spices

T: woody/oaky with sweet spices rooming around. lot of dark roasted malts taste, mixed with coffee. very very nice. Has some bourbon but not over powering. Getting some warming and booziness that lingers.

M: Well balanced, for a 12.5% beer. It is really nice, has a medium body, yet still has all the complexity of a great imperial stout. It is very smooth and creamy.

O: A well balanced 12.5% Imperial stout that doesn't hurt the budget and it taste better than the popular once in a blue moon stouts. At a price $12 for a 100% bourbon barrel aged bomber this is a must have.

2013 bottle ---bottle date 4/17/13. A lot like Blaecorn but amped up with smoked malts and bourbon is lovely

Poured into a large tulip glass. Apears dark blak with tan head. Smells of chocolate with some oak tannins and vanilla. Tastes full bodied chocolate & vanilla upfront with some light bourbon & oak in the background. A little astringency seems noticeable, maybe from too much bittering hops. Mouthfeel seems heavy, especially as it warms. Bourbon character cones through more and body seems more full. Overall, a good beer. Wish it had some more initial oomph.

Served in a snifter at Firkin.

I missed out on the small wave of bottles of this around here, so I was thrilled to see this stuff pop up as part of Firkin's Brash/Clown Shoes tap takeover. It pours a solid obsidian topped by a finger of off-khaki foam. The nose comprises chlorinated bourbon, light oak, cocoa, mild smoke, and thick roast. I've gotta say, that strangely chlorine-laden bourbon dominated in a bad way, but not bad enough to ruin things completely: just bad enough to make me generally unhappy. The taste brings in more of the same, luckily with much less chlorine and a helluva lot o' bourbon. There's hardly a hint of the smoke, though, which is decidedly disappointing. The body is a hefty medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a nearly chewy feel. Overall, a solid stout, very heavy on the barrel, but one that doesn't really showcase the smoke in any way whatsoever, instead opting for a heavy dose of bourbon barrel. It's not a strictly bad thing, just a thoroughly disappointing one.

Clown shoes porcine unidragon

This is Blaecorn Unidragon, but made with beechwood-smoked malt and aged in bourbon barrels. Poured into a snifter.

Thick and black as ink. A very thin cap of fizz pops away after a few seconds.

Maple syrup, vanilla, crumbled cocoa, toasted oak, campfire smoke, raisin, alcohol. A quality blend of aromas.

The smoke is more pronounced in the flavor. Huge beechwood notes and burnt oak in the front give way to chocolate and a touch of dark fruits in the middle. Smoke rises again at the swallow, along with a fairly pronounced alcohol flavor.

Alcohol fumes in the nose, and numbness on the tongue. Thick and viscous medium-full body with mild, prickly carbonation. Breaks into a bit of fizz as it moves.

Good stuff. Could use just a bit more sweetness, more barrel, a little less smoke. Better enjoyed in quick sips.
