12 oz bottle poured into a DFH snifter.

Pours a hazy dark orange color with a half finger of sticky foam. Looks quite viscous. Aroma is very resiny, full of hop oil and a touch of dank hoppy flavor. The first sip a an initial rush of sweetness that is quickly overtaken by dank, woody hop flavor. This a catty, tea-like dry hop flavor as well. Substantially bitter finish.

This is a solid IIPA. The hop profile is not my favorite, but it does a good job rounding out the sweet body and hides the alcohol well.

Look: The body is slightly hazy thanks to the hopping. The head settles to a veil that drags lacing down the glass. Not your traditional lacing but good-looking nonetheless.

Smell: Tropical fruits, honey coated biscuit, and a good amount of floral aromas here. The fruitiness of the ale yeast takes a back seat here.

Taste: Pineapple, melon rind, pine, a touch of clove, and orange blossom honey.

Feel: Just above medium-bodied, but this is a double IPA. It is 8% ABV but drinks like a 6.5%.

Overall: Quite tasty and robust, but it is hop forward so I would look forward to having this one on tap or filling up a growler.

Drinking this last night out of a pint glass. Pours a bright amber color with some haze, and an aggressive pours yields a frothy head. Balanced aroma of a sweet malt bill and some delightfully fruity hops. Flavor, however, is a bit of a disappointment. Instead of the galaxy hops being on display this is an average DIPA. Very sweet, malty, big bodied, fruity hops in the backbone. Overall fairly tasty, just not what I expected, pretty fresh bottle, too.

Bought a single at Round Rock World Market.

Another winner from Clown Shoes. These guys make some great stouts for sure, but this is a heck of a good DIPA as well. Great burnt orange look, clingy lace. Well balanced, hoppy, uber-smooth... delicious.

I'm getting it again soon...more than one next time.

Poured into a tulip glass, bottled back towards the end of March so definitely an "aging" IPA but didn't disappoint. Solid and nice looking one-finger of foam with a very nice hazy (opaque), golden-orange color. Rye aroma with hints of wood. Taste is somewhat floral, but not overly floral; dry-hops and rye seem to be most present. The aftertaste is astringent and especially alkaline at the very end of the hop explosion.

Sweet malts, bitter hops. A touch of citrus. Good DIPA, but not the best from Clown Shoes though. I was expecting more from the galaxy hops. I enjoyed Clown Shoe's Tramp Stamp more so then this one. Worth trying though...

Bottled on 5/28/15; into pint glass. Pale, cloudy amber with a one-finger eggshell-colored head. Medium carbonation. Distinct citrus and peach up front, quickly followed by bready malt. Hops bitterness lingers on the back of the tongue, but some subtle grapefruit/peach is also persistent. Mouthfeel is not sticky, not heavy, but certainly not light either - has some substance to it. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Very smooth, very well-balanced IPA.

I’ve started trying beers by Clown Shoes one by one and so far they are definitely above average, but not stellar, but then again I have been spoiled by giants such as Ommegang, Great Divide, and Sierra Nevada. This American Double/Imperial IPA weighs in at 8.0% ABV which is on the low end or maybe about average alcohol content for Imperial IPAs

Look-It pours a mildly hazy orange golden amber color with no real head. The lacing is delicate and moist.

Smell-I smell bready yeast and malts with noticeable grapefruit, peach, and apricots. The aroma is not very bitter smelling, but definitely foretells of an enhanced flavor. Let’s see what it tastes like.

Taste-It taste of caramel and bready yeast malts that the nose picked up on, but it is more noticeable than the nose told. Then you get floral and citrus hops that shine through on the tongue obviously and are composed of grapefruit, peach, and apricots. The floral component also has slight clover, but that shows up on the back palate after the medium carbonation fizzles away which is nice timing. The bite of the alcohol is a bit more substantial than I anticipated from a medium level 8% and plays well with the carbonation on the tongue.

Mouthfeel-It is not syrupy which I usually hate, but this one is more of a full-bodied crème type of beer with plenty of hops to give it a well-balanced experience. The coating on the tongue lingers for a long time and is pleasantly bitter but is kissed by peaches and crème, dare I say (LOL!). And lastly, I even feel the fizz after
several moments which is nice.

Overall-This beer started out a bit dull, but quickly turned around into a B+/A- class beer that is able to compete with a large fraction of Imperial IPAs out there, however it isn’t on par with giants such as Rebel Rouser Sam Adams or Rampant IPA by New Belgium. You’ll enjoy this one though. Cheers!
