V: They were definitely going for a dive bar feel, and for the most part succeeded. It's almost in a basement; the bar area has no windows at all. It's a very worn, weathered, dimly lit place with a good bar. Not at all cramped. You have to go through the Rivermont's bar to get to Ned's Beer Shop, which is a small place nestled in back.

Q: Rivermont had a high quality of beer, so far as I could tell. Ned's did as well - nothing stale or out of date to be found.

S: The service in both Rivermont and Ned's was quite friendly and prompt. They seemed knowledgeable about their products.

S: A nice selection all around. Rivermont had all local, state, and national beers on-tap, including Deschutes, Ommegang, Cigar City, Brothers, and Smartmouth.

Ned's had a nice selection of bottles, with a focus on domestic beers. Lots of local / state brews (Three Notch'd, Parkway, Alewerks) and national (Evil Twin, Alesmith, Founders). Not much in the way of foreign beers, though. Still, a good selection.

F: The food at Rivermont was well done and fairly quickly delivered. The pan-seared shrimp was very good.

If it weren't for this place, there wouldn't be a craft beer bottle shop to visit in Lynchburg. I work in this city off-and-on and was quite thankful when it opened up.

Of note, this is no longer on Rivermont Ave. It has moved around the corner on Norfolk Ave and is now inside Rivermont Pizza, waaay in the back. You have to go through the back of the bar and another small dining room to get to the entrance to the bottle shop.

You can buy a single bottle, four and six packs, and even cases (although the selection of cases is quite limited). There's a single cooler with a nice selection of cold craft bottles. There is an online store too.

The proprieter, Ashby, is a very knowledgeable craft beer lover and brings in a fine variety of bottles. You can purchase bottles and take them to be opened in Rivermont Pizza but there is a "corking fee".

Definitely check this place out if you are anywhere near Lynchburg.

Neds is a wonderfull craft brew shop strategicly placed on Rivermont Ave in Lynchburg Va,between Randoulph College and Virginia Baptist Hospital(expecting daddys hang out). Neds has a good selection of beers, from local VA breweries to hard to get imports. Neds also carries limited edition beers and can special order anything distributed in Virginia.

The owner Ashby Smith is a wealth of alcohlic knowledge and can navigate your palet threw his shop. Neds also has tastings once or twice a week, and hosts beer dinners consiting of 5 coarse meals with amazing beer pairings.

If your in Lynchburg Va carry your butt to Neds!

I just moved to Lynchburg from the Kansas City, MO area and was happy to find that this little place had just opened up. Ned's is just getting going and due to that, the selection is not the best. However, it's not bad either, as it is just gaining inventory. There is a Belgian section, IPA, DIPA, or "hoppy" section, a RIS section, and then the rest of the beers are displayed in the middle with some unique, don't fit anywhere options.
The best part about this local beer store is the service; Ashby, who is an owner, is very friendly and knows beer. Unlike other places I have been to he is very willing to accomodate the tastes of his patrons. I asked for him to bring in Great Divide Chocolate, or Espresso Oak Aged Yeti and he brought it in and put it on the shelf! No questions asked.
On top of the great service, you will find Stone, Bell's, Great Divide, Founders, and a few other good breweries. Keep up the good work Ashby. Will be visiting again.
