Strong, malty aroma has notes of caramel, cloves and horehound. Pours a dark translucent chestnut with a fairly thick light cinnamon-tan head. Rich flavor has a malty and woody hoppy core with notes of caramel and cloves and some hoppy bitterness. Smooth texture has a good amount of fizz and leaves a woody, somewhat bitter finish. Drink no evil indeed!

Pours a clear deep amber, bordering on pale brown producing 2 fingers of soap foam frothy, tan, somewhat lasting head that leaves a chunky, weby coating of lace. This is a beautiful beer. Aroma is toasted malts, toffee, dark fruit & some chocolate with a background of thin of floral hops. Taste is similar to the nose but heavy to chocolate for the style with pumpernickel & some cracker maltiness & dark cherries. Finish is toast & tootsie roll chocolate with some hop character in the form of a nice bitterness that's accentuated by the intense roast of the malts. Aftertaste is is bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with low carbonation, creamy & somewhat chewy with low pepper spice & faintly astringent in the aftertaste.

No freshness info.

Pours a dark copper and flavor is caramel with some spices. Sort of a mix between a strong ale and a winter warmer. A malt bomb but one that i enjoyed.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear very dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, and herbal/floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly drying from roast/hop bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice imperial red ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. This is borderline on being a brown ale; but is still really tasty and enjoyable.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep red with a small white head. Smells of dark grain, slight caramel, and slight molasses. Tastes of roasted grain, grassy hops, and slight molasses. Beer is full bodied but a very drinkable, slightly undercarbonated. Overall, a very good beer.

A: The beer is dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a short beige colored head that left wispy lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of malty sweetness and clumpy yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of malty sweetness along with notes of clumpy yeast and hints of dark fruits and hop bitterness. No alcohol is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount
O: This beer reminds me a lot like a Belgian Strong Dark Ale given the maltiness and yeastiness.

$4.99 for a 4 pack of 12oz bottles at BevCo. Priced to move. Wonder why? Per the rather odd website, brewed with Maris Otter, Magnum and EKG, Irish Ale yeast, 7.5% ABV, 83 IBU. Contract brewed by Thomas Creek Brewery out of South Carolina.

Pours out to a very dark red?...really this is dark brown, mahogany, forming a creamy poofy light tan head with excellent retention and very nice lacing. The nose is quite peculiar...there is dark fruits like dates and prunes, with vanilla, and a fruity hop charge. This smells like an extract brewed barleywine that has been sitting around for a while...kinda vinous, know what I mean? Mouthfeel is dense and rich...big bodied owning to the Maris otter. The taste is a recap of the nose...lots of dark fruit up front, some nice crystal malts in the middle, some slight roast in the middle with black tea character and a well balanced woodsy bitterness with lingering notes of tea, toast and leather. Very earthy and woody. Finishes quite dry.

An interesting beer, and heck, for the price, it's a good buy. Enjoyable. No problem drinking this up.

The bottle says it is contract brewed for Bottle Tree at Thomas Creek Brewery in South Carolina. Pours a medium density reddish brown color. Lots of reddish light comes through the glass. A hard pour gives off a medium size light tan head. Head retention is about average. Some thin rings of lacing on the glass.

Standard Red Ale aroma of sweet caramel malt and some balancing bitterness, in this case it is piney hops.

Taste is standard Red Ale fare as well. A nice mixture of caramel malts and piney hops. The maltiness shows up first with a more bitter follow-on.

Mouthfeel is crisp and sweet. The alcohol level is higher than many Red Ales but is not that noticeable. The bitterness is the finish is welcome to keep the beer from being too sweet and cloying

A bit sweet and high abv to be a session beer, but I could still swill a few of these in the evening. Not a bad Red Ale.
