Twisted Pine Hoppy Boy IPATwisted Pine Hoppy Boy IPA
Notes: Hoppy Boy India Pale Ale is Twisted Pine Brewing Company’s flagship beer. With a rocky ivory head, star-bright golden orange color, and massive hop aroma, Hoppy Boy is the quintessential American IPA. Citrus, resin, and a hint of malt not only greet your nose, but also your taste buds, while a smooth, lingering bitterness leaves your palate refreshed with every sip. Hoppy Boy IPA is a perfect marriage of malts and hops that is as bold as it is balanced, and thus exemplifies what American craft beer is all about.

Serving notes - served cold from the refrigerator in imperial pint glass.
A - Intense grapefruity resiny hop aroma comes forward right away. Some maltiness. Medium bubbles head of one-half inch persists.
A - Three fingers of white fine-bubble head. Great cloudy amber color.
M - Low carbonation and medium body.
T - Nice sweetness on the tip of the tongue actually came forward of the hops for me. Very smooth bitterness follows the sweetness. Some apple flavors on the tip of the tongue.
D - Sweetness forward of the hops is a little off-setting. Decent beer though, but not necessarily one that I will buy again.

Picked up a single 12oz bottle from Liquor Mart in Boulder for $2.99 and poured it into an Odell's tulip glass.

A: Pours a slightly muddled fizzy light honey-like hue with a decent head that lasts for a few sips leaving really nice lacing.

S: Tons of sweet malt with a slight hint of mossy hop.

T: IPA - ???? Yeah right! Nothing but malt and just a slight hint of generic hop - no character at all in this failed attempt at an IPA.

M: Medium-bodied fizzy mess.

O: Terrible IPA. Not good. A decent/average pale ale at best.

P: Short 12oz brown bottle. No best by date.

A: One finger head, that retains well. Copper to amber color.

S: Strong on the hops. Hints of caramel, and biscuit.

T: Very hoppy. Caramel, biscuit, and grass notes.

M: Light body, and medium carbonation.

D: Easy to drink. kind of light for a IPA.

A- A slightly hazy orange color. Pours with a two finger white head with moderate retention, and light lacing.

S- Smell is mostly pine hop, with a back splash of slight carmel maltiness.

T- Flavor is very hoppy in the middle. There is a lot of pine and resin, with some notes of citrus and maltiness in the background. This beer is very bitter, bordering on unpleasant.

M- Mouthfeel is pretty standard for an IPA. It is much better constructed than the actual flavor

O- It is an average IPA on most counts, other than the flavor. The flavor really left me uninterested, and very disappointing. With so many IPA's around, they really have to deliver for me...this didn't.
