A beer special, unique, fresh, balanced. A pleasure, I need another taste. Pesnsar made me and let me out of the game without words.

Enjoyed from the small corked bottle in a snifter. This nice dark Belgian pours a muddy brown with an outline of dark red. A moderately vigorous pour gives a light tan head of foam that settles to a thick ring with a thin layer and nice light lacing. Nose of brown sugars, raisin bread, subtle pepper spice, and yeast goodness. Flavors follow the nose with smooth dark brown sugars and dark raisins to the front and middle. Sweetness abounds without being overly cloying as it fades to a subtle light white pepper and baked bread crust flavor. Very pleasant. Light carbonation makes for a slick mouth feel closer to a dubble than a farmhouse style ale. Nice lightly sweet aftertaste of brown sugar and raisin. Excellent.

Cheers

This is a murky, dark, old copper beer with streaming carbonation. A slight off-white head immediately dissipates to a thin ring in an HB lidded stein. SRM 21-23.

Aroma is very fruity with spice, perhaps clove. There is a strong presence of raisins and yeast. Floral notes are set against freshly-baked white bread.

Orchard fruits dwell within the flavors of this well balanced saison. Flavors follow the nose with some faint pepper. Warmth brings out a light flavor of sour plums. The finish is modest.

Medium body with alcohol as expected, modest carbonation and a silky texture. There is also a light acidic note.

The saison hallmarks are present but subdued. I would consider this more a hybrid saison/dubble. Dark is quite enjoyable on its own, but better with soft cheese, and significantly better at temperature or even warmer.

12.7oz bottle poured into a tulip, a date strip but no notches on the label
A: Dark brown while pouring but a ruby color when held up to light with a 2+ finger head that lingers
S: Dark malts, a bit of date/butterscotch but fairly simple
T: Fairly sweet with brown sugar, fig/date, butterscotch/caramel and sweet malts
M: Medium-bodied, quite sweet
O: This beer is dessert. It's tasty but I opened it when I wanted a refreshing saison, not something as sweet as it is. I'd recommend it, just please save it for after a meal or a nightcap, not the middle of the afternoon

Amber brown and hazy in the De Proef narrow tulip with a very attractive fine-grained foam. A nice mouthfeel with the creamy carbonation. Bubbles streaming in the dusk.

Flavor is a little murky. Malty and slightly sweet. A resiny candy taste that swiftly goes dry and sharp. Grainy. An insistent tang of bitterness. The flavor of raisin bread toast. This has that classic rusty water taste of far too many Belgian beers. I can't see much point in this one, except to warn against trying random Belgians in the US.

Best before date is "B 4 14" so it that B4 2014? Well, it's from the cooler at at Grapevine Liquors in Denver.
