Good food. Amazing draft and bottle selection. They are home to many local drafts as well as some international selections. The bottles are very plentiful. You have your pick. You can also take bottles to go. They do accept credit card

Where do I start? Do I start with the story with how Sean was able to contact a few Brejeiros to come over to taste American beers I brought? The chill and quick service of the waiters? The extensive bottle and glassware collection? Or the beautiful pours they do for draft beer?

EAP is a very clean and relatively new spot in the São Paulo beer scene. There's an outdoor patio with seating, the inside on the first floor has about 5-6 different tables. A gourmet case filled with cheeses and charcuterie sits on one side, and at one spot behind that case are the taps. It feels more like a clean gourment store that a beer geek magnet.

Me and Sean entered the store to find only a few people inside chatting. I brought in a bag filled with American beers to sample for whichever Brejeiros Sean had invited to come. I opened the luggage, and the waiters right away got us several buckets filled with ice to sit the beer in. They even manipulated the water level between buckets so each bucket would have the right ratio of ice to water! As Sean told me, the owner of EAP is extremely passionate about beer, though he wasn't around when we came.

There are 10 beers on-tap here, and by Brazilian standards that's a lot. Even better are the choices of draft beer; Guinness, Schornstein Imperial Stout, Colorado Indica, Wäls Trippel, and six different Bamberg's (pilsen, weizen, munchen, schwarzbier, rauchbier, helles). I started my journey with a flight of Bamberg beers. For R$12.50, you can get any five of Bamberg's beers in a 220 ml serving. The pours were healthy and they tasted really fresh. Lots of different glassware is used here, and the shelves with the 300 odd bottle selection are clean and organized well. The only qualm I have are that I didn't see any visible pricetags for the bottled beers.

The bottled selection is great no matter what part of the world you're in. It's extremely extensive. There's Brazilian (Colorado, Burgman, EikBier, Dama Bier, Abadessa, Wäls, OPA Bier, Bierland, Bamberg, Backer), UK (Harviestoun, Traquair House, Fullers, Marstons, Batemans, Hopback), US (Brooklyn, Rogue, Flying Dog, Anderson Valley), Germany (Weihenstephaner, Paulaner, Hofbrau, Erdinger, Hacker-Pschorr), France (La Goudale, 3 Monts), Belgium (Orval, Westmalle, La Chouffe, Chimay, Delirium, Boon, Gouden Carolus, Palm), Holland (La Trappe, 8.6), Italy (Duan, Le Baladin), Czech Republic (1795, Primator), and more.

As I was finishing my flight, some Brejeiros arrived and I started opening my beers. We drank them, chatted for hours, got some good food (cheese pizza and a parmesan cheese plate with bread). Other stuff looked good as well.

Sean left after a few hours to run some errands while I sayed with the Brejeiros (Alexandre, Guillerme, and Mauro). I had arrived at 6pm, but it wasn't until midnight that I left. I had opened 15 different beers to share ammong 6-7 people when earlier in the day I was certain we'd have leftover bottles. We drank it all up and I had a ton of fun with them. It's going to be a memory I keep for a long time, and the EAP made it all possible. Even if you're on your own and call yourself a beer lover, if you're in São Paulo you must visit.

Update 3/2/12: Two more visits yield a few more things. The food is quite good (Guinness pie, meat and cheese plate), the place is full in beer drinkers on a Friday or Saturday, and there is a self-scanner to find the prices of bottled beers. The results, +0.5 increases for vibe, service, and food. And now there are 20 taps!
