Geez, this is a great beer. Awesome look. Sticky white head. Rich, amber body. Juicy, rich, piney, hoppy aroma. The feel is venomous. Something gives this a small bite. Amongst DIPAs, this is the best I have had this year. The best balanced DIPA I have had. Definitely World Class stuff.

BIG thanks to JM03 for this!

Pours a light caramel color, clean, with a big white head. Aroma was piny, and resinous with some citrus and tropical fruits. Taste is big pine, resin, some grapefruit and caramel malts. It's got a bit of a full body to it, creamy, almost rich. Even though it was a growler, carbonation was nearly perfect.

This is a fantastic, resinous, beast of an IIPA. AWESOME!

Overall, a very tasty and extremely balanced beer. Very similar to Pliny the elder, if you were to make a comparison, but I may like this one a little more. Perhaps it is because I can't get it regularly, but either way, it's still great.

The gold standard for a west coast India pale ale.

Had on tap at Brouwer's Cafe

A: Hop Venom is a clear copper/amber color with a nice off-white head on top. Decent head retention that leaves some pretty lacing all around the glass.

S: Tons of tropical and citrus fruit on the aroma. Grapefruit, apricot, orange, and a bit of mango as well as a slight grassy aroma. There is some faint pine at the end.

T: The flavor profile backs the aroma up nicely with more tropical fruit, chiefly grapefruit upfront, but also some mango and papaya. There is a nice piney bitterness on the finish as well as some faint candied sugar malt.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Alcohol is hidden nicely and drinkability is very good.

O: First beer I have had from Boneyard and it is amazing. Can't wait to have this one again and try their other offerings.

Served on tap at Three Floyds in Munster, a surprise to see, but a welcome one.

The beer pours a hazy amber color, hues of copper and orange with a finger or so of white head that has moderate retention and leaves some sticky lace behind. The aroma is lovely, lots of citrusy hops, bitter pine, wildflower, hop spice and some really soft malt. Balance is spot on, integration is great, while not the most complex aroma I've encountered on an IPA, it's just really solidly done. The flavors are no let down at all, loads of tangy grapefruit hops, crisp spice, earthy grass, floral character with some bitter, resinous pine on the back end that's really soft and supporting, rather than abrasive and clashing. Sweet malt and a touch of alcohol is also present at the finish but doesn't detract from this at all, only helps to balance and mellow the hops. The body was nice, crisp, juicy that coats the mouth nicely, the finish was a little pricklier than I like and while it was dry, it wasn't bone dry.

Verdict: A damn solid DIPA from Boneyard. I've been looking forward to trying this for some time, and I never expected it to be sitting on tap in the midwest. I had to order a second glass to see if it was really was the real deal, and it delivered. Cheers to Boneyard for this, a joy to drink.
