keg tapped recently for 32oz fill @ valley growler
The beer pours a coppery amber color with a light, off-white head that settles quickly to a ring that tightly clings to the perimeter. The nose is candied pineapples when cold, but it quickly sinks its teeth in - a mix of booze and citrus. There's also malty sweetness that picks up in the nose as it warms. The taste is clean with a good amount of candy-like sweetness to balance out the generous hop profile. The fruit profile doesn't change much compared to the nose - tropical fruits mainly, but it's also thick with malt. This is easily medium bodied, but is well carbonated to break up the heaviness of the malt and palate-saturating hops. Although sweet (perhaps overly) and hoppy, there is a distinct booziness in the finish that's unmasked. This is a good DIPA, but I'm more content with RPM

On tap at Toronado Seattle. Served in an odd 10-12 ounce sort of shaker glass.

Lacy, oatmeal-colored head. Settles into a film of lace over the body. Copper body with perfect clarity. 4.5

Smells of orange and grapefruit. Citrus-heavy but not particularly remarkable. 3.75

A somewhat must orange and grapefruit flavor prevails. Seems muted and contained. Could Toronado be serving an old keg? Tough to say but this isn't awe-inspiring. Caramel and malty sweetness complements the fruity citrus but it's still a bit muddied. 3.5

Definitely thick-bodied. Feels DIPA-ish. Malt is prominent in feel for sure. Tangy citrus feel up front and then becomes grainy. 3.5

Not sure what the deal is but this isn't that impressive. Will revisit.

32 oz Crowler. Pours clear golden amber, thin white head. Sweet smell of bread and fruit. Taste is sweet and fruity up front which turns to citrus hoppiness and a biscuity dry finish. Balance is great. Mouthfeel is slippery. This is a top notch IPA.

I once had this beer on tap at the Latona Pub in Seattle, and the pint I consumed was so utterly amazing--richly flavorful and perfectly balanced--that for a moment, at least, it stood in a class all by itself in my personal DIPA experience. Others have joined it since, but I still remember that one glorious time.

A highly hopped beer with great nose (smell) and taste too! Nothing negative but the price at $29 a growler fill at Porky's in Longview, WA.
