Appearance: Clear, reddish golden in color with a thin creamy head.

Smell: Hoppy sweet aroma with earthy, grass-like scents.

Taste: Fruity apple flavor with a light hop at the end and a lasting piney sweet flavor. Good malty base and a lasting hopiness. The beer also offers a lasting fruity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: This beer is very smooth and creamy with a clean, lasting, and refreshing quality to it.

Drinkability: This was the best brew in the house that day in my opinion. The aftertaste is splendid and balanced.

This IPA was a clear orange-gold colour I could only describe more as just 'healthy' looking. It smelled lightly malted with floral hop notes. At first taste, this ale was quite hoppy and bitter upfront, but gradually mellowed out into a lingering flavour of floral hop on the palate.

Would I buy this beer again? Probably.

this is the plain ole IPA at chicago. pours out golden with a slight orangish hue. small white head. aroma is very floral, hoppy but not overly so, balanced by a nice malt bill that adds a little sweetness to the nose. full bodied in the mouth, creamy, filling and satisfying. a hoppy beer, but not as potent as other american IPA's. very floral and slightly sweet, a hint of caramel, more tang than bitterness. in the end, a good solid drink.

On-tap at Chicago Brewing Co. in the Four Queens, downtown Las Vegas, served in a 20oz pint glass:

A: The beer appeared a nice clear orange with a small white head that quickly disappeared. No lacing to speak of. Really, upon first glance the beer did not appear all that appealing.

S: The beer had a nice aroma to it, mainly citrus hops with hints of pine and a nice malted barley backbone.

T: The taste was slightly better than I had been expecting after noting the appearance and the smell. The beer followed the aroma well with plenty of hops, and the beer was well balanced, so the hops did not knock you over. The beer did finish with a nice bitter, dry aftertaste.

M/D: The beer had a medium body to it with good carbonation. The beer was smooth and pretty refreshing and the beer went down very easily. Drinkability is definitely its best quality. Overall not a bad beer, a beer that I would drink again, but no where near the top in the IPA world.

On tap at Chicago Brewing in the 4 Queens. Cloudy golden color, with a few orange hues. Small white head disappears after a few minutes. Not much lace to speak of.

Notes of citrusy hops, and a bit earthy. An overwhelming oxidation note which is quite distracting. The classical wet cardboard smell is what comes to mind. A bit of caramel malt as well.

Caramel malt up front, with a good citrusy bite from the hops. Nice to see that the oxidation present in the nose did not make its way into the flavor for whatever reason. Dries out at the finish.

Medium body, with a nice amount of carbonation. Overall not bad. Without the oxidation in the nose, this would be a pretty solid beer.

Had on tap during a recent visit, have passed over several times before and finally had to try. Not a good read on color as I had it in their beer garden outside at night. Good head that remained throughout the beer and left a nice lace behind. Very hoppy/piney smell to it, a little too much so for my taste though. Taste was better, good combination of hops, spice, and malts (though this particular glass I should note the malt was minimal). Went down really easy and left no bad aftertaste, in fact I think that was the best part. Overall a good beer, this particular batch was a bit on the piney side, but still another good brew from Chicago.

Consumed 05/11/08 at Chicago Brewing Co. & Cigar Lounge, Las Vegas.

Medium/light gold. Unfiltered. Particularly unusual head: reminds me of a bacterial culture in a petri dish.

No aroma.

Flavor starts with piney hop notes. Not much malt character; too shy to be definitively identified. Some light citrus, grassy notes on finish. Bitterness shows up a good second or two after beer has been swallowed. Neat trick, that.

A nice enough beer.

Had this on tap at the Chicago Brewing Co., then ordered a growler to go.

A: Attractive semi-cloudy orange coloration that leans more toward dark than light (and it's at times clearer or cloudier depending on when purchased--it is unfiltered, afterall). Little carbonation. Decent lacing.

S: Huge notes of grapefruit and pine in the nose but with plenty of malt detectable to back up the hop presence. Just how I like my IPA's. Very enjoyable.

T: This is where the magic happens. Love at first sip. The citrusy-piney hop aroma presented in the smell unfolds brilliantly on the palate. Kudos to the folks at CBC for brewing this gem in the desert.

M: Amazingly balanced mouthfeel. Not too cloying, yet thin enough to facilitate the relaxed atmosphere present at its place of brewing.

D: Honestly, I could drink a lot of this beer. As it currently stands I have in my possession one growler . . . that's just not enough.

Conclusion: Hands down my favorite brew so far (and I'm predicting victory for this selection) at CBC. Barring some amazing seasonal that the brewmaster may create in the future, this will be my beer of choice on any future visits. Awesome.

Beer poured on-tap into a pint glass. This beer was a typical IPA, and nothing truly stood out. That being said, the beer was your typical copper color, although unfiltered, which gave it a cloudy appearance. The aromas are hoppy, and the tastes are bitter and sour hops flavors. It reminded me of most east coast IPAs. The beer itself was round a bold in mouth, and combined with the sourness, not the easiest of consumptions. A little goes a long way here.

Clear orange in color with a nice think 1" head. Lacing was thick on the glass too. Carbonation level was just right. The aroma was of nice floral hops. The flavor was a balance of sweet malt, strong floral hops, and orange citrus tones.

The mouthfeel was smooth at the start, and had a long bitter finish. Alcohol level was slightly noticeable. This is a great basic American IPA and it is extremely drinkable.

22 oz. draft at the 4 Queens (downtown on Fremont Street). Very tasty with good long finish. Probably would have enjoyed the taste even more had I not been smoking cigars in the casino all day. Heck of a deal too at $4.00 for 22 ounce mug. A very tasty beer in a most enjoyable atmosphere.

Definately the best beer that I had at the taproom in the Cigar Lounge, 4 Queens.

The beer begins with a nice look. Somewhere between golden and amber in color with a froathy white foamstand that laced well and retained to the bottom of the glass.

Sharp aromas of grapefruit and pine resin dominates the well attenuated malt base. Fruitiness of pineapple, pears, and apples compliment the hops while bridging the barley malts.

Flavors of grapefruit, orange rinds, lemon zest, and grassy/piney notes give a lot of flavor and spicy notes to the softer malt bill. Malts give very little sweetness, but give a good malt flavor. Spicy phenols also compliment the hops without delivering any detectable off flavors.

Texture are crisp, clean, refreshing from the high attenuation rates, leaving almost no residual sweetness on the tongue. Bitterness is agressive and pleasant giving the beer dryness, spiciness, and palatablility.

Finishes dry, citrusy, and with a long, bitter lingering. A must-try if passing by the 4 Queens Casino on Freemont Street.

Presentation: Mug #4 of #9, imbibed as part of a 4oz Sampler arrangement during a recent visit to the Chicago Brewing Pub in Las Vegas with BA’s UncleJimbo, DukeofEarl and his friend Ozzie.

Listed as India Pale Ale, and as a regular house brew. [Actually the Sample sheet said this was the Pale Rider but the waitress told us this was substituted with the IPA, further investigation confirmed this].

Appearance: Orange body with a rim like off-white head that hung around. Nice conditioning, spritzy looks on the swirl with superb head retention.

Smell: Fruity citric sharp nose that is full of Hesperidium delight. Rich feel on the nose, deep hoppy character balanced with oranges, red apples, some sweet malts and a floral aspect that is heavy in the air, some alcohol too actually.

Taste: Nice balance of sweet malts, orange, fauna, hops and a slight hint of orange caramel in the finish. Oh yes, just how I like my IPA’s, thick, fruity, orangey and hoppy. Definitely lots of Cascades in this one! Superb.

Mouthfeel: Solid thick orangey feel with a citric bold middle yet all encased in a rather average body that feels light enough to quaff - drinks exceptionally well and way too easy for a 7% brew.

Drinkability: Oh so easily enjoyed, imbibed – what a superb libation!! Goes down faster than the French Navy at Trafalgar.

Overall: Thoroughly enjoyable, a luscious fruity IPA that was incredibly quaffable. Nicely put together. Another one to sample in the 22 ounce Glasses for sure.

Highly Recommended!

Poured a copper color with decent head that remained to lace the glass. Excellent hop aroma that easily complimented the rich malt overtones.

The malt flavor was also rich with a nice hop bitterness that balanced it very well. Effervescense filled the mouth with flavor and texture.

Drank with a hearty sandwich of Italian beef and sausage and the APA stood up well to the spiciness of the meal.

Took a growler back to the hotel with me and enjoyed it the next night.

Pours a generic gold, clear color with mostly floral sweet hop aroma. Very nice nose actually. Taste is hoppy, fairly bitter, grapefruity and floral. Still suffers like many of their beers from a lack of body and slightly thin flavor. Not deserving on the 91st %, but not terrible.

On tap at the brewpub, 12/6/10.

A-Golden amber with a thin white head and a bit of sticky lacing.

S-some citrus hops but mostly diacetyl. Hi, ringwood.

T-Ruggedly bitter, citrusy and earthy, lacking in balance.

M-Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, slick.

D-My notes say "not terrible". There you have it.
