I had this beer on-tap at Ellis Island in a curved pint glass best described as a weizen glass.

Appearance: deep brown hue with no haze to the body; it's almost black. Finger of dark tan foam with good retention and nice lacing.

Smell: sweet malt with toffee and caramel notes. A little roastiness fills it out pretty well. Not bad!

Taste: like the aroma, it's sweet with toffee character and a light roastiness. More of a porter than a stout, but pretty good nonetheless.

Mouthfeel: medium light body with good carbonation. Nicely creamy but a bit light for a stout.

Overall: very drinkable and a steal at a buck ninety nine. Will have another!

Notes taken while on vacation May '11

A- Came in a pint glass, and was a clear root beer color. The head was nice and thick, tan colored, and had good retention. Carbonation looked to be fine upon first inspection. There was excellent lacing all the way down throughout the drinking experience.

S- A blend of milk & dark chocolates greeted my nose initially. After this, there was a mixture of sweet toffee and dry roasted malt, and a slight bitterness on the finish.

T- More of the same was found here....the sweeter milk chocolate came through the most for me. I also found that there was a semi sweet molasses flavor in there and some creamery butter. The finish was slightly dry/bitter but nothing really noteworthy.

M- This is a smooth, medium/light boded beer that is finely carbonated. I found this to be a little too thin to be considered ideal for this style but it's still a very flavorful brew.

O- This is easy to drink....a little too easy! The price point doesn't make me think twice about this one either...better than most of the other offerings in the area, that's for sure. Had this as my breakfast beverage and it helped clear the palate of the greasy goodness that I was enjoying! Next time I'm in Vegas, this will be a stop on my list again!

Tasted on-tap 02/26/07 at the Ellis Island Casino & Brewery in Las Vegas, NV.

Dark brown to black in color with a low tan head. Light roasted malt aroma and flavor which was pretty much on the mark for the style. Nicely balanced. Light-medium bodied and very sessionable.

One of the better beers at EI and well worth every $1 per pint !! 8^)

Consumed 02/08/09 at Ellis Island Casino, Las Vegas, NV.

Clear, very dark brown with ruby highlights. One finger tan head. Sticky lacing.

Aroma is aggressively (over)roasted dark malt.

Mouthfeel is thin, almost watery.

Flavor is similar to Guinness (deeply roasted malt), but with more malt flavor and no sourness. The bitterness on the finish is not bashful, though I would hesitate to call this a strongly-flavored beer.

Adequate brewpub stout that went fairly well with my ham and eggs breakfast at ten A.M. Nothing more to see here, move along.

Served in a standard pint glass.

A - Dark brownish black coloration, decent head, mild retention and nice lacing.

S - Dry roasted aroma with some java notes.

T - Rich malty body, sweet at first with a bitter wash that balances it out nicely. Not too complex but pretty tasty.

M - Light bodied, great carbonation level, creamy body with a dry finish.

D - Fairly similar to Guiness but only $1 a pint! You can't beat it, and after trying this I stuck with it for the night. If you pay a visit to Ellis Island, don't leave without trying this one.

Had a couple of these again when we were in Vegas this past March.

A- Kind of light for a stout but not too bad.

S- Could not pick up any scent at all; probably because it was served too cold. I let it warm considerably and could pick up just a little bit of roastiness.

T- Fairly good, actually, even served too cold for the style. It was definitely my choice of the brews that they had on. Definitely cheap at $1.50 a draw--free if you're playing.

M - Pretty thin. I'd be more apt to call this a brown ale?

D- Pretty quaffable. We come here everytime we're in town so when here, this is the brew I tend to drink.

Appearance: Dark brown with no light coming through and a creamy tan head made up of unevenly sized bubbles.

Smell: Oddly this beer has no aroma, nothing. It's rather scary, but I had my nose way down into this beer and I couldn't smell anything.

Taste: Roasty opening with a lingering coffee flavor. The beer is watery and thins as the flavor progresses. Some astringency and a bit of fake cherry flavor (like cough medicine cherry).

Mouthfeel: Soda-like carbonation in the mouth. Very lively. Clean on the palate without any residual uncomfortable feel. Slightly dry.

Drinkability: It's not offensive but I think it lacks a lot of flavor and leaves a lot ot be desired.

The only full beer I tried on my trip to the brewpub, I decided to splurge and pay the $1 since I am a fan of Stouts. I guess it was worth the dollar. Served way too cold first of all. Pours almost black with a creamy light beige head. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. The aroma is mildly roasty, with some coffee present. Medium-bodied and on the carbonated side. Mundane flavor as with the other Ellis Island beers, slightly nutty with some malt and hops. The finish is crisp for a Stout, not very hoppy or bitter - just crisp. Probably the best you can do at this casino but still a barely average beer. What a waste of a 'XXX'.
