Appearance- Deep amber in color. The shop where I had this beer had some kind of issue with their keg, and the beer was being poured at half-carbonation, so there was no head. Not the beer's fault.

Smell- Don't recall

Taste- There is a bubblegum-like character up front that morphs into a piney hop flavor which is balanced nicely with mildly sweet malt. Finishes with a lingering clean hop bitterness and more bubblegum.

Mouthfeel- Due to the issues with the keg/carbonation level, it felt a little thick. Must try again when I can get a better pour.

This is a very drinkable, well-balanced, and delicious brew. I can only imagine how good it will be w/ a better pour. Will try again this weekend. I'm a fan.

UPDATE: Had another pint, this time @ Flying Saucer in Austin. Pour was good this time, and this beer was exceptional. I tasted a little less of the bubblegum flavor this time and a little more piney hops with a pleasant sweetness throughout. This brew has a lot of character. Much respect to Thirsty Planet.

Appearance- Great amber color and very eye pleasing. A decent sized head on it, not too much, not too little.

Smell- Citrusy and pleasant. Smelled a little sweet, malty and good noseful of hops.

Taste- Very balanced. Nice mild sweet taste with a clean hoppiness. Had a defined malty taste. Again, extremely well balanced. About 70 IBU and 7.25 % alcohol, nice nice nice.

Mouthfeel- Head size was decent, not over powering, good manageable size.

This is a very clean, balanced, and tasty craft beer. Thirsty Planet is on to something. I had this on tap. I hope they are able to expand on their distribution because this is something everyone should try. Looking for something surprising and addictive....give it a try.

Appearance: orange in color with a thick head that slowly falls to a thick surface covering. Thick lace develops on the glass too.

Smell: only some soft hop bitterness is detectable by the nose.

Taste: caramel, orange, grapefruit, pear, and a decent bitterness are the main flavors. Alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel: crisp to start, less crisp and a touch dry at the finish. Long lasting bitter aftertaste here.

Overall: this beer was decent but nothing to rave about. A slightly above average higher ABV IPA that is easy to drink.

12oz bottle with a best by date of 6-9-19 (opened 6-1-19).
3/4" off white head. Deep copper gold IPA, clean and clear. Great lacing.
Big, malty base...floral and faint piney hops. Brown bread and caramel.
Caramel, some brown sugar and a big, blast of piney-floral hops. Some hint of a yeasty character.
Medium-full body and an oily mouthfeel. Long sweet malt/bitter hop finish - floral / earthy hops.
Unique IPA experience based on what's out there now...malty, big, bold, bitter, clear, copper colored...different and good.

On-tap at Houndstooth Coffee, Austin.

First off, congrats to Thirsty Planet for helping lead the charge of new Austin breweries! Buckethead pours with a vibrant amber-orange hue. Not much head develops in the standard glass, but the thin veil of custard foam clings to the sides of the pint with the stubbornness of a well-hopped IPA. The aroma is difficult to discern in this coffee-rich atmosphere; pair that with a less-than-ideal carbonation level, and all I can pull from this beer is a light dusting of piny hops and an amber malt body. Hints of tropical fruit in the background.

The flavor hits the tongue with a good dose of caramel-toffee sweetness, amber malts, and a strong balance of hop flavor. The hops taste fruity at first with tropical undertones, but towards the end of the sip they turn into a resinously bitter, piny taste-bud killer. Okay, so my palate isn't "fresh Stone Ruination"-wrecked, but Thirsty Planet got the bitterness levels nearly perfect in this beer. The hops linger long after each sip, turning a bit woody and dry in their flavor towards the very end. Mouthfeel is a bit syrupy due in part to a low carbonation level, but the medium-full body is a nice change from most IPA's. Overall, Buckethead could use a few minor tweaks here & there, but it's a great-tasting hop-bomb of a beer nevertheless. Looking forward to the rest of Thirsty Planet's line-up...

Original rating: Overall-3.95 B+; A-3.5; S-3.5; T-4.5; M-3.5; D-4.0

[EDIT: tried again on 8/24/10 at Flying Saucer Austin. Much better carbonation level, very piny bitterness rides out long into the finish. Mouthfeel much improved. Sticky/attractive lacing all the way down]

[Original rating 2016-05-19] Draft at Chicago House, Austin TX. Another solid Austin IPA. Clear orange copper with a thin tan head. Aroma of citrus and flowers. Taste is well balanced, some sweet malt with a flowery hoppy finish.

On a rusty afternoon, hands covered on the spices of hatch, Dortmund rolling the ball, this brew entertains me. Ruby, staring back at me, waiting for the connection, sending me messages of cherry, honey, flowers. Then... It happens. I taste sweet bitterness. Everything an I.P.A. Has to offer and then some. Everything I smelled is there. But in a language my taste buds understand. Apricot, chillin with me. Smooth, nice, I dig it.

In my opinion, Buckethead IPA is best by the half pint on tap. This allows the head to cream up nicely. It also concentrates the flowery hop nose. It is best very cold straight off the tap. The amber color is a bit cloudy, but this does not affect the crisp taste. The overall taste is a bit sweet up front for an IPA, but still has a nice bitter back end.

I like this beer and it is within my top 10 IPA's available on tap in Austin Texas.

Amber and slightly hazy, it is served with dense head that evolves into a small amount of lace. Aroma leans towards the malty side, with a honey sweetness winning out over the earthy hops. Bit of a carbonation bite up front. Some malt sweetness front and middle. Hop bitterness comes out at the back end. Medium rich mouthfeel. A better than average IPA as Texas IPAs go.

On tap at the Lakeway Alamo Drafthouse.

Beer was delivered just before the lights went down for the movie, so I got a decent look in decent lighting. Really liked the color... vibrant deep, dark orange, average to light head, but nice streaky lines of lace.

Crisp pineapple hop scent...liked it. Resiny pine as well...could not catch much sweet malt, but still...smelled quite good.

Certainly a hop punch to the face...strong citrus, mainly pineapple...a bit of orange...followed by a trace a malt, and then finished off by a bitter pine finish. Man, this is a hop bomb...good, but a bit unbalanced. Kind of a Ruination baby brother.

Sharp carbonation, a bit dry...not as smooth as I prefer, but does not detract from taste.

A very nice local IPA for those looking for a hop punch for sure.
