This award-winning amber ale is guaranteed to tame your wild thirst. Wild Horse is brewed in the German "Alt" tradition. It gets its malty, rich and complex flavor from a blend of five malts. A two-time Bronze Medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

Picked this up when I was snowed in in Wendover, Nevada last month as I made my way out to the west coast. One of my goals on here was to review a beer from all 50 states and sure enough, this was the bottle from the Silver State that I ended up grabbing. While not a bad beer, this was a bit odd and not like anything I ever had before. Malt forward and full, one bottle per session was enough for me but it was a welcome, but odd, change of pace from what I was normally used to!

The pour to this was clear, caramel, and topped off with a thin, white head that didn't take too long to settle down. A brassy hue what was the liquid reminded me of as the aroma was a mix between that alloy and copper. Lots of caramel, spicy bread, and grain in the muted nose as they came out more in the taste. Many referred to this as Nevada's take on Fat Tire and some extend, I could see that. A grassy undertone grew stronger as this warmed up but the taste never fully appealed to me. This wasn't bad as much as it was different, weak, and just...lacking in something to take away in the end.

Not a lot of booze in this, which was this beer's saving grace. Too much malt and bread wore me down in the end but for something easy and simple, this ended up fitting the bill. More caramel in the taste and biscuit malt might have given this this body and depth that would have appealed to me. At least I was able to quaff a bit more down after finishing this off!

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a weizen glass. Clear, dark amber in color, with a thick, long-lasting white head that left a good bit of sticky lacing. Malt forward, with notes of bread and light caramel. Mouthfeel is medium, with a little sweetness, a dry finish, and just a hint of lingering bitterness. Overall, very tasty and nicely done.

This is is first Alt-style ale that I found palatable . It is a bit on the mild side, which will make it a decent choice for a gathering.

Look- It has the ruby-brown color of a cream soda and is transparent. There is a thin, white head and virtually no residue on the glass.

Smell-Nutty, malty and toasty. Very pleasant, but it could be a bit stronger for my taste.

Taste- The malt is predominant. There is still a small nutty note that carries over from the aroma. The beer is just a little bitter.

Mouthfeel- The body is quite light. The feel seemed a bit watery, and the swallow is, too. There is a lingering aftertaste that could be described as warming and just a little bitter.

Overall, this could be listed as another "safe" beer. It won"t necessarily wow anybody, but it is not at all unpleasant. I would consider buying it as part of a variety-pack as a change of pace.

Light brown, dark auburn color. White head, barely over a quarter of an inch I'd say. Mild malt aroma if you look for it.

Smooth taste, thicker than expected mouthfeel. A good crossover beer to get people into darker beers that aren't super roasty or hoppy.

A darker amber color on this one, might scare some of your non beer friends. White head, leans thin more than thick, almost approaching that 1/2" depth. Smelled like an oktoberfest.

Taste has that weird bitterness that is from something other than hops (or old hops). The liquidity of the beer is weird, comes off thick.

This is like Nevada's version of Fat Tire. Its not as good, less hop kick, but it may suit some of your guests.

On tap at the source. Was told this was an Amber Ale, not as style described on BA.

For an Amber Ale, drinks par for the course for the style. Not a bad beer by any means. Not convinced it deserves As low as the ratings it's previously received on here.
