Meet Red Ryder - a deep cherry red that captures your gaze and holds it for ransom. Her motive is simple: Give you what you want. She is quick to disarm you with a hint of caramel, covered by Magnum hops. As she takes you to the floor, a spicy peppery rich twang slides over you like silk sheets. When the smoke clears and the windows open, Centennial hops fill the room with a clean, flowery citrus aroma. Stockholm syndrom never tasted so good.

22oz into a snifter
Pours hazy and murky copper with 2 inch off white head
Candied orange peel with a touch of spiciness on the nose (the rye? not sure if there is any in there)
A hint of slightly sweet malts and caramel with big orange peel and soft bitterness
Medium bodied - smooth, but a bit light on the carb.
Overall a solidly drinkable beer. For the style, it is very well made. I suspect many people who don't like this, actually just don't like red ales - this is a very good balanced hoppy red.

Poured at a good temperature with a massive, foamy, frothy, thick, slowly settling, cream-colored to light tan head and lots of lace. Color is a clear copper with some tiny bubble trails. Aroma is an equal blend of malt and fresh hop. Flavor's like nose, but much more complex - include a little roast, metallic, and medicine. Carbonic tang is very closely matched with hop bitter up front with the barest hint of sweet in the back. Body is good, ditto carbonation; although the bitterness is very close to clashing with the tang. Finish is like flavor; bitter is very long lived and twists into something not so pleasant. This brew is much better consumed without too much delay. The roast quality is a huge asset though.

Appearance-Translucent red to brown out of the bottle with a coffee creamer color foam.
Smell-Coffee, toffee, tootsie roll chocolate.
Taste-Scorched earth and coffee. Smooth chocolate on the finish.
Mouthfeel-Good length on the finish although it drops off once it's done. Lighter body than the nose and taste would suggest however.
Overall-The finish and nose are good but the mouthfeel, especially the weight and texture of the beer are seriously lacking.

On tap at Congregation Ale House in Pasadena, CA.
Pours a clear copper with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells much better than it tastes in my opinion.

Handsome coppery color with some foam but a little more would have been better. No lacing at all in the Duvel tulip. Adequate carbonation in the mouth. The nose is that funny gummy, cardboardy, wood chips smell, but as it warms the aromas are more resiny and floral.
Malty and rather sweet to start. This is the earthy and herbaceous style of hoppy Red Ale. Brewer says the flavor is Magnum hops. A little acidic in the aftertaste. Tastes good when you're thirsty, but it's not something I would try again. The best examples of this style to me are clean and crisp but this is more on the murky side. Plenty of bitterness along with some herbs and fruit. From the 22 oz bottle bought at AJ's Fine Foods in Chandler.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Look – dark brown in color, with about half a finger’s worth of khaki-colored foam that dissipates somewhat quickly.
Smell – creamy and hoppy aroma. Interesting smell, hard to pin down.
Taste – smoky, tinted with a hint of muskiness that lingers into a bite from the hops in the finish.
Mouthfeel – pretty well-balanced, but lingers on the smooth creamy side.
Overall – interesting brew overall, good-tasting and fun to think about.

Chilled 22 oz. bomber into a shaker pint. No visible bottling date.
Look- Beautiful ruby-deep amber hue, two and a half finger toasted marshmallow head that clings to the glass as it falls. Splotchy lacing.
Smell- Musky hops, caramel, raisin, spicy, light sweetness. Fairly subdued, but pleasant.
Taste- Spicy. Rye is certainly a strong player, along with peppery hops and a hint of oxidization. Vanilla and cola, grassy bit in the middle. Finishes with mineral water and toasted rye bread. Mild lingering caramel and lemony bitterness. Decent, but could be sprightlier. As it warms, it takes on an interesting warm cinnamon-raisin bread character that's actually quite excellent. Makes me regret finishing the other half of the glass while it was still cold.
Mouthfeel- Medium body, moderate carbonation, fairly sharp feel that softens as it sits out. Crisp, finishes dry with significant mineral character.
Overall- Pretty good, but definitely let it warm up first/serve it at room temperature. I enjoyed it quite a bit after it had an hour or so to sit out, taking the edge off of the sharp carbonation and bringing out a mouth-watering toasted caramel flavor that works well with the rye and light bitterness. A temperature recommendation on the bottle would be well-suited. Recommended.
