On-tap at Hops Burger Bar, Greensboro, NC

A: The beer is clear but very dark red in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with patches of off white bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose along with hints of Belgian yeast.
T: Like the smell, dark fruits—raisins in particular—are present in the taste along with a little malty sweetness and hints of cocoa and bananas.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems a little malty and sweet for the style but the addition of vanilla, chocolate and bananas makes this unique.

Appearance: A gusher, so the beer pours all head and the balance spumes out of the bottle; eventually, matters settle down and a coffee brown liquid emerges; the flip side of a gusher is, as always, good lacing action

Smell: Somewhat roasty, with chocolate and banana tones; dark fruit, as well

Taste: Chocolate, roast, banana and a hint of coffee, forward, with the vanilla and dark fruit elements building; nicely balanced through the finish

Mouthfeel: Way overcarbonated, at first, though the mouthfeel improved considerably after 30 minutes to a full bodied, somewhat creamy feel

Overall: But for the carbonation issues, this beer could have been a real winner; my advice is to let it sit around for a while in the glass as it improves with time

Poured a brown body with decent head and minor lace. There are roasted malts in here but I mainly get vanilla and chocolate, possibly a milk edge, and I don't really pick up the bananas but power of suggestion from label makes me want to say hint of banana in aroma. Good balance and a very unique beer as I haven't had anything really like it. It is smooth, sweet, vanilla with touches of milk chocolate and this banana bready like taste and a little bit of yeast and bread for fuller, chewier body. Also some roasted malts give it character and I swear I picked up touches of coffee or dark fruit as well.

I wasn't sure about this being a Belgian Dark but after drinking half the bottle I can "kinda" see it.Pours a deep tawny brown with a blooming light beige head atop that left broken chunks of lace behind as it settled.Yeasty aromas with phenol spiced notes and some vanilla.Nice complexities on the palate with spiced yeast and the Madagascar vanilla playing a big role,I even get some of the roasted banana in the finish and after taste. This is an imperial brown but the Belgian yeast phenol-like flavors win out,a very good complex beer from a kick ass brewer.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

The beer is near black with a small, fleeting beige cap. The aroma brings a big dose of chocolate fudge, bananas, a hint of peanuts. Sweet, but not cloying. Reminiscent of a candy bar. Big fudge character with banana and fruity sweetness. Medium bodied and smooth. A solid beer. Best in small quantities.

Draft at Sams bottle shop preopening event

I think this is working mans lunch base but not positive. Pours a dark brown with a tad of head. not much lacing. The smell is chalked full of vanilla and candied sweetness. The taste is exceptionally smooth. The Madagascar vanilla really shows and while definitely big, it doesnt taste overly sweet. Slight banana finish. Definitely a dessert beer but its not as comically sweet as say creme bruleé. body is medium and the carbonation is low.

overall its possibly the best full steam beer ive had. good job guys

Poured on-tap in a nonic, the beer is a deep, dark, ruby highlighted, copper coloring, with a filmy, clingy, white head. Nose of deep roast, rich old world fruit sweetness, coffee bitterness, and hints of smoke. Date and fig make the sweet aromas, with some nutty highlights. Flavors are rich and roasted heavily forward, with molasses, dates, fig, cherries, chocolate, nut sweetness, and hints of tobacco, cinnamon, and clove. Dark sweetness throughout, too. Rich and smooth bodied, with a slick, light transition to the finish, with a light candied fruit linger. The aftertaste is the same rich, old world fruit.
