Coffee Is For ClosersCoffee Is For Closers
Notes: A smooth iced coffee porter brewed with Muddy Dog coffee (Sumatran). We add lactose to round out the mouthfeel and body. This spring seasonal is great bridge beer: hearty enough for spring's cooler temps, but iced coffee-refreshing for the South's warm springs.

look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Pours a medium-to-dark brown body with a medium-small, light beige head.

Smell: Lightly roasted grains, chocolate chunks, moderate coffee nose with some dark-roast bean notes and hint of spice. Has a slight sourish milky tone.

Taste: It's got roasty, toasty, grainy aspects, though none are particularly more forward than another. A little chocolate, light dark fruitiness and that sourish 'wait, don't use that milk' milk hint. Remains sweetish through the reasonably smooth finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Middle-of-the-road.

12oz can. There's a freshness date, but printing errors render it indecipherable

"Smooth, smooth, and smooth. This beer is smooth" the label says. And by golly, this beer sure is smooth.

Dark body, big brown head of foam, smells like coffee. Tastes like a moderately sweetened iced coffee, rounded out with toasted malts. Exceptionally smooth, almost chewy body. It's the perfect beer for a cool spring day. Or any day.

12 oz can with a Nov. 2017 canning date.

Appearance - Pours black and opaque with a large, creamy, beige colored head that has good retention. Moderate+ lacing.

Aroma - coffee with a suggestion of sour cream.

Taste - Largely follows the nose, unfortunately including the mild sour aspect. Hints of chocolate milk and roasted nuts. Quite good excepting the faint sourness. Light sweetness and bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied with medium-low, soft carbonation. Creamy smooth.

Overall - A slightly flawed coffee porter, with a faint sourness that others may not find or may not find objectionable.

I love a good coffee beer but this one falls short for me. It's a lovely rich color; smells of coffee, chocolate, caramel; the coffee flavor gets lost in the sweetness - a bit too sweet for my liking; and the feel is true to the can's boastful "smooth" which maybe is another reason I don't love this beer. It certainly isn't on the list of "never drink again" but I probably wouldn't choose this over other amazing coffee brews.

Appearance - Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging. Cocoa colored, finger width head that holds for a bit before dissipating to a mostly barren surface. Fair lacing, most of which is made up of spotting.

Smell - Strong coffee aroma with lesser notes of cream, nuttiness, chocolate and caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose, but with more cream. Coffee and chocolate milk, with a faint note of caramel. A bit of roast creeps in toward the finish, but doesn't emerge in front of the creamy sweetness. Some nuttiness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low, lightly tingly carbonation. Creamy texture makes this a smooth, easy drinker from start to finish.

Overall - A fine coffee porter, but a bit too much creamy sweetness for my deep-roast loving ass. Thanks to Jay_P22 for hooking it up. Cool ode to a far too underappreciated movie.

Look is dark brown with minimal lacing.

Smell is coffee and cream. A lot of coffee. Like a lot.

Taste follows the nose. Coffee slapping you square in the mouth. Creamy, smooth, and balanced. It's like a nice iced coffee, but those always disappoint and this doesn't.

Feel is medium bodied, light and refreshing...which is surprising with all this coffee. Fine carbonation.

Overall I really enjoyed it and I'm glad I bought it. Will send one to my friend @thesixthring. Nice brew. Will drink again.

We don't gotta sit and read this.

A: Dark fucking black in color, with a tan head. Fine. You made a good sale, fine.

S: Let's talk about something important, that smell of "coffee" as well as some fucking caramel and cream.

T: I'm gonna tell you something, this has roasted malt flavor, and a continuation of the coffee and cream thing. Rounded and smooth.

M: Medium body, and fine ass carbonation.

O:You ever take a dump made you feel like you'd just slept for twelve hours? It's not quite like that, but pretty good.

This beer delivers as advertised and it comes in a one pint can! Very dark brown color with a good two fingers of frothy tan head. A very smooth, full bodied porter with lots of coffee flavor. The taste is very strong coffee with undertones of cream. Just enough sweetness to make it enjoyable. I liked it a lot. Much better than Starbucks! Caution: contains lactose.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass. Canned Feb 24th 2016.

Bubbly frothy espresso light head, with a bit of liquid retention to the head. An easy cascading three fingers out of the can and easily settles to a nice foamy sudsy finger of head. Dark walnut brown body, slight opaque with a dark reddish mahogany colored edge.

Pretty basic if solid aroma. Nice drip coffee sensations, with a little bit of airy grain. Flirts with charring qualities but not totally, a slightly milky sense brings some sweetness but is also a little subtle (which I kind of enjoy). Definitely coffee emphasized, a decent one not a great one though.

Palate gets slightly more varied than expected but not by much. A light classic roasty body but with a sense of chewy character a bit. Good washing roast coffee qualities. Slightly milky sweetness but more so with faint washing milk chocolate that comes with more bitterness accentuating the coffee character. Nice bit of mild hop bitterness on the end as well.

A pretty solid and easy drinking coffee porter.

Near black, nice lasting tan head. Some solid lacing.

Nose is big coffee but a bit of malt there coming through.

Flavor is nice - not over the top huge roast coffee. As the notes say, definitely lighter on those notes to suit the season.

Feel is near perfect. Full and rounded enough to fit the porter bill with a nice lush and smooth aspect that makes it incredibly drinkable.

Very nice coffee porter here I'll definitely enjoy again.

Very very dark brown, but pretty clear, all things considered. Limited head and carbonation. Smell is spicy and events, with coffee as an underlying tone. The coffee is more evident in the taste, providing bitterness to contrast with the sweetness of the lactose. This beer gets better as it warms and the flavor gets more complex. The feel suffers from a bit too much of that overdark, burnt coffee taste at the bottom of a carafe. A decent enough beer I'd revisit.

Had this as part of a flight at Fullsteam Brewery.

Look: nearly black, medium tan head
Smell: strong scent of sweet iced coffee
Taste: obviously the main thing here is coffee, but hints of bitter dark chocolate and malt come through as well
Feel: medium body & medium/heavy carbonation

Overall: I enjoyed this porter, but it wasn't anything memorable

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice coffee inspired beer with chocolate elements; certainly a change from the big coffee stouts

Thanks for gifting me with one of these Kegatron. Pounder can poured into a snifter, the brew appears black in color with a brown cap that fades leaving patchy lace.

The smell has a bit of citrus before roasty coffee and earthen qualities emerge. The taste is a little carbonic, then roasty coffee with a slight citrus kick.

This is medium bodied and modestly carbonated. Overall decent but a little too much mineral/carbonic character distracts from the beer and coffee addition.

I'm not a fan of coffee flavored beers. Never have been, never will be, but if you like coffee flavors in your beer, you're going to like this. I had a sample portion at a bottle share. As advertised, it's essentially alcoholic iced coffee. Not really sweet like some "iced coffees", but imitates an unsweetened iced coffee flavor perfectly.

Just because I dislike coffee flavor in my beer doesn't mean this is a bad beer. All of my friends who like coffee flavored stouts and porters couldn't get enough of this. I based my ratings off the fact that the description is spot on with the flavors I experienced. It's nice to be able to read a description and have a realistic idea what to expect!

Dark, opaque body with a light brown head, big at first then fades pretty quickly to a ring and patchy layer. Not much for sticky lace... Aroma is bright fruity coffee, some musky toasted, perhaps more earthy coffee scents, easily discernible lactose. The fruity coffee aromas come across as orangey and tart. Taste matches smell. Sharp acidy bitterness on top of smooth roasted coffee, some cocoa... Not bad. The coffee takes the stage well however overall I have mixed feelings regarding how much I like this beer. Its good but I don't love it.

Dark brown topped with a tall, frothy beige head. Smells like a blend of lactose sugar and coffee...slight roasted edge, berries, nuts, and some cocoa. Flavor continues the trend, but the coffee has a fruity acidity to it. It's not stale, which is an obvious plus. A little cola and nuts. Medium bodied with a drying finish. Not bad.

Pint can into a pint glass. Pours a medium brown and settles nearly black in the glass. Very faint hues of red/brown on the bottom lip of the glass when held to light. A 2 finger head of very sticky, bubbly foam rests atop. Coffee bitterness, roasted malt, and smoked nuts on the nose. Maybe some hints of chocolate in there as well, but the smell isn't strong. Medium-light weight and very carbonated. This beer honestly feels like Pepsi in my mouth. Bittersweet coffee and chocolate mingle with roasted malt and smokiness. There's a sticky-sweetness on the back end and aftertaste that's slightly off-putting; not bad, but just doesn't jive with the beer otherwise.

This is an odd, interesting beer. It has all the right flavors, just in the wrong proportions. It's too bitter, too flat, and too thin. Yet somehow, tastes too sweet when it's gone. It's what I'd imagine coffee-infused cola tasting like, if such a thing existed.

Look: Beautiful color and khaki head and nice tiny bubbles. A very handsome beer.

Smell: Woah, a lot less on the nose than I'd expect. A bit of coffee, a bit of malt. It's not a bad smell, it's just... underwhelming. I just can't pick up on a lot. But again, smell has always been my weakness.

Taste: Not the kind of coffee I dig. I don't love an overly abundant roastiness, but there's almost none to be spoken for in this one and that really takes away from a coffee porter. Also, it's overly sweet.

Feel: Fine for a porter. I usually like thicker porters with a nice oily flavor. This is fine.

Poured from a tallboy can into a shaker pint, the beer is a very dark, almost black coloring with a foamy, clingy, low profile, light tan head. Aromas of freshly roasted mocha, giving a solid balance of bitter roasted coffee, subtle cream highlights, and hints of chocolate. Some nutty highlights in there, too. Nice. Flavors are roasted coffee and cream forward, with subtle highlights in the backbone of roasted nut and milk chocolate. Very well balanced palate, with the perfect balance of bitterness and creamy sweetness. The body is smooth and creamy, almost reaching into the milk stout type of feel, which is perfect for the lingering aftertaste of tangy cream and mocha. The finish is smooth, with a slightly dry and bitter kick right at the end. The roasted notes and hints of coffee linger on after each sip. Very solid beer.

I decided to drink try this today (at 11am) rather than use the French Press. I made a wise choice. A little thin, beautiful head when poured and lacing for days. Nice and dark in color, and the flavor is nailed when it comes to the "Iced Coffee". Will try and get a few more of these.

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint very dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of cold brewed coffee and roasted malts.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of roasted malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of cold brewed coffee (iced coffee) and a light flavor of cacao nibs. Light to moderate amounts of roasty bitterness in the finish which does not linger for too long.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: As a coffee lover, especially an iced coffee lover, this is a really enjoyable brew. Love the coffee flavors and aromas. Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. A nice roasty dark beer for the summer with the lighter body/mouthfeel.
