King Basil is an American take on a classic Bière de Garde. Brewed with three varieties of basil (Genovese, Opal, and Lemon) and three types of North Carolina grain (Barley, Wheat, and Rye) this beer's complex aroma features fruity, floral, and spicy notes. On the palate the beer opens with rustic flavors of fresh basil, spicy rye, clove, and earthy yeast. Finally, a mild bready and toasty character develops as the beer finishes with a slight malt sweetness.

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium burnt orange in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation, light amounts of whitish larger yeast particles in suspension, and a faint amount of amber + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy white head that reduces to a medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of pale and cereal grain malts underneath moderate aromas of peppery yeast and moderate aromas of herbal basil.
T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of pale and cereal grain malts with a hint of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of light fruit (apple/pear) and moderate flavors of sweet basil. Finally there is a moderate flavor of spicy/peppery + earthy yeast. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which does not linger. Hints of booziness in the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightest hint of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Very enjoyable, a strong biere de garde that is complemented by the flavors of fresh sweet basil. Easy to drink even though it is big for the style. Definitely worth grabing.

It pours a golden with slight clouding. It has a full white head that leaves lacing. the aroma of basil is most prominent. It also has other spicy aromas with lemon and yeast. The basil is also dominant in the initial flavor with lemon, other spices. and earthly yeast flavorings. It has a tangy finish mix with mild bitterness. If you like foods with basil or simply like basil as a spice, this one is for you. Otherwise, it's a quality brew that is certainly different.

Pours into an oversized wine glass a tangerine-like color with a thinner white head, good carbonation...alot of tiny bubbles.Yeasty aromas with a touch of earth,an ever so slight lactic note as well.Peppery spice, toasted cereal grain, and a good punch of sweet basil in the finish with that slight earthiness thrown in.Good complexity on the palate and it doesn't feel or taste as big as it is really, very nice.
