Appearance: The chocolate colored beer has a nice head on it that leaves shards of lacing behind

Smell: Both chocolate and vanilla elements can be detected on the nose as well as vague hints of the Bourbon barrel

Taste: The Bourbon is much more pronounced in the flavor than in the scent as it overtakes the chocolate flavor by mid-palate; after the swallow, chocolate, vanilla and Bourbon flavors linger and there is a nice oaky flavor in the finish

Mouthfeel: While this is not a high ABV beer, the mouthfeel just doesn't work; the body is on the light side but the real problem is a high degree of fizziness that just doesn't befit the style

Overall: A pretty decent beer, but for the mouthfeel

On tap at the brewery on 3/3/12.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a reddish hue and only a thin remnant of head. The nose offers vanilla, chocolate, a little sweet caramel, some faint alcohol, and a nice woody, bourbon aroma. The flavor opens up much like the original version with chocolate, roasted malts, and a little caramel, but then finishes with a woody, vanilla note. There is just a hint of bourbon in the finish which comes with the woody, vanilla notes. There is a faint note of alcohol that comes in the finish as well. The mouthfeel is a very smooth, medium body with decent carbonation.

This is a well balanced beer. I think the aging process really smoothed the flavors here and added a little body. The vanilla notes come through here more than the original in my opinion. I would definitely have this again.

catching up on an oldie here - this was late 2011, entered from notes

a: glass at the brewpub on a Sunday with glorious food truck barbecue, the barreled version of this unique stout is a deep brown in color, holding up a nice head with light retention

s: smooth roasted malts give thinned chocolate aromas alongside fruity banana esters, toasted malt, vanilla, and a gentle undercurrent of woody bourbon

m: lighter in carbonation but a touch prickly, body on the thinner side of medium

t: all the notes of the standard working man’s persist here, but are smoothed over with the added gift of gentle bourbon barrel notes, mellow flavors of vanilla, mild banana esters, toasted sugar, and clean roasts, lingering finish with only a mild hop presence

o: nicely done with a light, complimentary barrel presence - a touch necessary to apply bourbon to a smaller beer, drinks well

It pours very dark brown with blood red hues. Very small white head.

The smell is exactly like you would think a BA Working Man's Lunch would smell. The barrel hides all the chocolate.

I really enjoy the taste. As smy friend Stuart said, "its not all bourbon, its just--Heres some bourbon." All of the things you like about Working Man's Lunch all made it through the barrel as well. The light body, nice bits of chocolate, and slight creamy feel.

Well done Fullsteam!
