Served in a half-pint glass at Ale Arsenal.

A: Perfectly clear light gold. Good head.

S: Resinous hops. Dank, earthy, and deep.

T/M: Full-bodied and quite tasty. A hint of pleasant sweetness, just what you'd expect in a DIPA, but not too much. The aftertaste is tinged with juicy oranges and bright lemon zest and lasts forever. It's surprisingly drinkable! Washes through the mouth and straight down the throat without ever diminishing in carbonation, mouthweight, or flavor.

O: A really nice beer, all told. Very little bad to say.

A collaboration from two of California's hoppy brewing powerhouses. Pours slightly hazy but to be honest the color looks off, dirty copper penny with some olive tinge. Soapy head is loosely formed leaving a thin ring or two on the glass.

Here's where it gets good, Hawaiian lilikoi fruit with sweet tangerine, bright citrus and mango mixed in. Highly aromatic and tropical atop a slight base of caramel malt. Maybe not as open or blatant in pungency as Kern River Citra but you can sense the influence.

Terrific, the tropical tones of passion fruit, mangoes and deep citrus burst carries into the flavor. As the beer warms the piney and balancing herbal tones and bitterness come out in the finish. Alcohol is packaged nicely and the residual malt sweetness is present but pushed aside.

A weak point, the body of this beer is lacking, there is a distinct watery feel to it particularly when cold. Some way call it drinkable (which it is) but just not complete. Well hidden alcohol and on the lower end of DIPA bitterness.

A really good DIPA no doubt, a high amount of tropical hops in both the aroma and flavor, that you just don't get in most offerings of the style. The thin body of this beer is somewhat alarming but I guess the malt has to give to make the hops shine out. Try this one if you can, both these brewers know how to handle their hops.

Overall: One of the best new DIPA out there. Worth trying. [4.5]
Look: Clear amber in color with a rocky white head. Good retention and moderate lacing. [4.5]
Smell: A bowl of grapefruit, amongst other citrus varieties, in a pine grove. [4.75]
Taste: Mild malt sweetness. Intense citrus hop presence. Orange and pineapple and mango. Incredibly juicy. [4.5]
Feel: Dry with a good amount of carbonation. Bitter, but not overly resinous. [4.25]

Bottled on 11/06/14.Pours into an impy nonic a clear light to medium golden with a sticky bone white head atop.A mix of floral, melon, and citric hop in the nose wich makes for a good combo. The feel is nice it's a little light but I think that's not a bad thing here.Leafy and minty upfront but then a good smack of citric hops makes for an interesting hop complexity, thru it all it stays quite dry.A nice beer,it doesn't seem as big as it is,a nice find.

Sadly, this beer is exactly one month old.

Solid DIPA. Not following regular format here:

This is a Knee Deep Beer, first and foremost. If you're familiar with their oily slick maly body and backbone.....

The hop profile here is pretty unique and delicious. The best way to describe this beer to a "T" is a 8% Hoparillo. (If you're familiar with Hoparillo?) Lots of Mosaic hops used in this one. Blueberry forward first, Apricots and Mangos. Some pine to even things out as this is a California beer afterall...

My only complaint is that this beer is under-carbonated and a bit watery until it warms up. My suggestion is to pour this one into a glass as SLOW as possible so as not to lose any of the carbonation. Even with a semi-aggressive pour, there's really no head to speak of. The Sierra Nevada Audition English Style Barleywine I drank 3/4 of last night has been sitting in my fridge for at least 24 hours, and the 1/4 left I poured to follow this one had noticeably more carbonation. Just wanted to paint a picture here.

Smooth, but not crisp. You'll understand that statement once you dig into this beer. Solid representation for a DIPA in the 8% range. A bit over-priced though. But with the reputation of these two breweries, you just ave to pull the trigger!

Cheers!

Simply one of the best fruity DIPAs . Right there with Duet and Pliny ( no shit)
.
Fruit tropical essences, sweet malts. Simply outstanding. Balanced. Bitterness is absent.

If Pliny didn't exist: this would be the the pinnacle. Delicious
