5/13/16 bottling date

A: Clear amber pour with a good sized frothy light tan head. Quite nice head retention and some decent smudges of lacing left behind.

S: Very nice mango initially. Juicy citrus with some grapefruit. Just a bit flowery.

T: Definitely more flowery here. Up front floral hops with dry, pungent grapefruit. A bit of sweet mango but just a touch. Some other indistinct tropical fruits, pineapple maybe? A decent burst of bitterness into the finish which has more floral and grapefruit hops. Quite drying.

M: Medium bodied, clean and dry.

O: Nice citrusy, tropical IPA. Not super bitter but plenty of hop flavor. Crisp and very dry.

22oz bottle into tulip. Bottled 4/5/16.

A: Pours a clear burnt golden with a thick, fluffy, and oily off-white head that slowly faded into a greasy and wispy film. Large chunks of sticky lace were left down the glass.
S: Huge fresh and hoppy nose bursting with scents of orange creamsicle, citrus nectar, and a touch of tropical fruit.
T: Simcoe hops and citrus pith up front, with a clean green and slightly herbal bitterness in the finish. I get more notes of simcoe lingering in the aftertaste along with a touch of mint and wintergreen. Crystal malt just barely pokes through in the background.
M: Medium body, greasy mouthfeel from all of the fresh hop oil, but there is a crisp and clean drying quality that makes the beer easy to drink. Tingly and bubbly carbonation, lingering herbal bitterness.
O: A fresh and full-flavored beer. Crisp and easy to drink with a clean bitterness and scrubbing carbonation.

From a growler from The Beer Growler poured into a tulip glass. Clear orange, with golden highlights and a one and a half finger fluffy white head, that moves to a thin lace that retains well on the side of the glass. Smelling hops, onion, floral/pine aspects, and mild citrus. The taste is right in line, with some back end toasted bread notes. The mouthfeel is full, but not dense, and the carbonation is medium low with a dry finish. Overall, another excellent offering from Knee Deep.

Solid IPA, pours on draft a clear golden color with a minimal head and luxurious lacing. These are spicy hops, old school IPA. Good stuff. Cheers!

Bottling date of 04/14/16

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and purely golden in color with a rocky, off-white finger width head. Fair carbonation, dissipating to a mostly barren surface with a thin ring of suds along the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing, save a broken line or two and some very minimal spotting.

Smell - Highly aromatic notes of citrus and tropical character. Orange and grapefruit essence, with lesser pine, mango and pineapple.

Taste - Follows the nose. Crisp, citrusy flavors that ride the line between orange and grapefruit, slick and oily, with lesser mango. A touch of dank pine and spice. Light pineapple acidity that hits closer toward the back end. Malts are present but buried, with light caramel sweetness peaking through where it can. Pithy, bitter finish with a hint of stone fruit pit and lingering acidity.

Mouthfeel - On the heavier side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick texture that quickly gives way to a crisp, dry finish.

Overall - Wow, and I thought Lupulin River was impressive. Very similar to some of Alpine's great hoppy offerings, in fact if I didn't know any better I'd guess it was. I'll be seeing this one again, and soon!

The appearance was a bronzed burnt amber/almost brown color with a sly transparency to it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a nice pace. Finger’s worth of lasting head maintains for a good minute before dissipating nicely. Lacing seems good and adequate, somewhat messy yet thin. The aroma takes in a ton of big sweet danky onion over top of some sly citrusy hops. Old school malt backbone seems to hit very nicely, no where close to being overly done, just seems to be right there. The flavor seems brings in the qualities of the aroma nice and bitter and then forms into more of a combined bittersweetness between the hops and the malts. Beautiful transition from aftertaste to finish was executed very nicely. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping quality to it. Yes, given the name, I wanted to gulp it (maybe slightly), but the sweet dankiness does help alleviate some of the leeway of the bite from the hops. Damn nice balance! Overall, despite the age, this was a very nicely done DIPA that I could come back to, most definitely!

6/3/17...pours rusty copper orange, white foam that settles mostly out with one island of foam. Slight orange peppery nose. Smooth almost creamy open. Spills into a bitter pine. Bitter burns below the surface but is expertly balanced throughout. Tasty.

I just admit I'm a huge fan of knee deep
L: looks great! crystal clear
S: Reeks of citrus wow! Much more citrus than Julius I drank the other day (both about 3 weeks old)
T: solid hit of tangerines and pineapple and a bit of mango. Good amount of dankness. Not much pine. Minimal caramel notes that I think is quiet perfect. I think it's very good!
F: Has a medium viscosity for an IPA. On the lighter well balanced side.
Overall: This is a great west coast IPA that's extremely well balanced. The bitter doesn't go on for forever. The taste lingers just enough. Tons of tangerine and a bit of mango. No dankness. Overall great! I am truly a fan.

If you like west coast, you HAVE to pick up a fresh bottle.
