L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a golden yellow-orange color and a somewhat hazy texture. There was an inch of foamy, very long-lasting head. Above average lacing.

S: A big, enticing aroma of hops, pine, citrus, light malt, and a floral quality.

T: Tasted of a hint of the floral quality (wasn't as prevalent as I thought), lots of citrus (lemon, in particular), a malty tinge, lots of pine, and of course, a ton of hops. Because this is a Knee Deep beer, I thought the flavor would be mind-bendingly hoppy, but it was actually incredibly well-balanced. Sweet, hoppy, flavorful.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth, yet lively, finish.

O: Simtra is a very well made, easy to drink IPA. Quite tasty and drinkable.

22oz bottle - not cheap, but I guess that's the case with a triple anything these days. May 19, 2017 - is that 'triple fresh'? Probably not. Could they have also called it Citcoe?

This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden yellow colour, with a near teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and sort of chunky off-white head, which leaves some random streaky lace around the glass as it evenly sinks away.

It smells of biscuity caramel malt, a strong wet stony character, musty pine needles, some indistinct dry citrus peel, and further unremarkable leafy, weedy, and dead floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a lessened caramel sweetness, mixed sugar-free citrus notes, a stoic hard water flintiness, and more dense weedy, floral, and wet pine needle verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-supporting frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and actually quite smooth, with a wee airy creaminess seemingly coming out of nowhere. It finishes trending rather dry, the twin axe hop attack really showing some lingering legs.

Overall, this is a pretty heady and enjoyable version of this amped-up style, with the twenny-two fiddy-proof booze factor a damned-near no-show, which is exhilarating and scary at the very same time. By far the best offering that I have had from this particular Cali brewing concern, and actually worth the asking price around here (or so sez my inner hop-fiend self).

Pours a gorgeous dark-golden with just the right amount of foam. Fairly floral and mild-smelling for a triple IPA; tastes much much stronger than it smells. Taste is not overbearing or muddy, but it definitely tastes strong and is an extremely strong beer.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of resin, pine, some caramel. Taste is bitter, dank, pine, more bitterness, some malts are present, hints of alcohol as it warms, but not nearly as much as you would expect considering the abv. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall, if you are looking for a hop bomb, you found one here.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a glossy burnt orange slightly yellow color with a thin white foamy head that dissipated at a nice even pace. Slight messy lacing. The aroma takes in a nice well balanced sweet to bitter citrusy hoppiness. Sweet onion dankiness slides in underneath. The flavor takes in all of the previously mentioned aromas to balance spectacularly between the sweet to the bitter. Balanced bitter citrus/onion hoppiness hits nicely against the sweet malts. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. Fantastic sipping ability helps create a long sweet to bitter balance rolling over my tongue. ABV feels well hidden. Overall, a well executed DIPA that I would have again.

I picked up a bomber of Simtra Triple IPA from Total Wine & More on 06/08/2017. Bottled on 03/20/2017. 11.25% ABV. 131 IBUs. Simple-looking bottle label. Knee Deep Brewing Co. hails from Auburn, CA.

Simtra 3IPA is brewed with Citra and Simcoe hops. This 3IPA pours a light orange with moderate carbonation. 1 finger of ecru foam. Poor head retention. Some lacing. The smell consists of huge resinous pine and sweet citrus -- very intense and very dank. The taste starts with tangerine, grapefruit and orange, followed immediately by a huge blast of bitter, resinous pine, all held together by a moderate malt backbone. The lightly toasted malt backbone is dialed back to allow the bitter hop flavors to shine forth without harsh taste or unpleasantness. The alcohol warms the entire mixture slightly without interfering with (or washing out) the bitter hop intensity of this 3IPA.

Simtra 3IPA is bitter, beautiful and delicious. Simtra 3IPA is more intensely bitter than Knee Deep's Hop-De-Ranged quadruple IPA, although it's a toss-up which is ultimately better tasting. Furthermore, Simtra 3IPA's resinous pine taste is more intensely bitter and citrus than Knee Deep's Lupulin River Imperial (Double) IPA, although Lupulin River, when fresh, has a more intensely resinous pine taste.

These 3 aforementioned Knee Deep brews -- Hop-De-Ranged 4IPA, Simtra 3IPA, and Lupulin River DIPA -- form the holy trio of Hop Heaven. Each of these 3 beers is epic in its own right -- their standout commonality is the incredible intensity of their resinous pine taste and aroma. I simply can't get enough of each of them. Kudos to Knee Deep for not backing down or selling out -- these three intensely flavored IPAs are delicious, thirst quenching and refreshing.

Triple......IPA ?! 3x IPA. 131 IBU. (Most I've had as of 5/2/17) 11.25 % abv. ....what a mean green beast. 22 oz bomber in a wide Dogfish head signature glass.

A clear gold color with vivid amber hues. A high, bubbly sea foam white cap recedes in moderate fashion.

The aroma is very intense, very complex, with pineapple, strawberries, floral effects,sweet-citrus notes from the two hops. An earthy, herbal thing under the big fruity tones, honey-sweet and slightly bready malt is obvious and bold with a heat tingle, slightly boozy ( it is 11.25 after all) combo in this remarkable nose. A very deep and muli-layered hop explosion of aroma.

The flavor is about as deep and complex as I have ever experienced. The hop complexity is very good, multiple flavor's impress within the two hops highlighted in this brew. Dry-earthy and bitter notes happen fast, 131 ibu!! And man, it does not let you down....flavor's are big but the earthy, bitter ending is just perfect. Grapefruit in a big way, tangy, slightly sweet and certainly bitter fruity overtones dominate. Herbal and spicy, sharp black pepper and boozy heat tend to mingle together in the middle, morw earthy bitterness rolls in again, with a super-crispy malt with very subtle seeetness of wild honey.

The cripness, earthy tones and grapefruit effects are very complex, deep and just plain rad. Balance is excellent for such an extreme hop bomb. Way to easy to drink for such a high alcohol, Lupulin beast. But, then again, I think I like my very boozy beers better than most. (?)

So, the mouthfeel has a light but seriously crisp, earthy and dry bite. Boozy heat warms the tummy and tingles the nose and goes from crisp and light to a heavier, medium bodied malty thing. Excellent feel for such a big beer.

A fine example that is the extreme alchemy approach to what has proven to be the American craft beer Renaissance that has strived for the last 20 + years.

Fantastic hoppy aroma: grapefruit, pine, alcohol, honey, flowers, orange, biscuit, and a light touch of dank sweetness.

Big, sweet, and hoppy on the palate. Tons of resinous pine, fleeting sweet notes of mango and mandarin orange. Huge sweet malt base, and the alcohol heat is noticeable.

Fairly thick and syrupy, and a little hot, but remarkably smooth given the insanely high ABV.
