Just cracked one bottled 16 DEC 14. A pure gem. The immediate fragrance that hit my nose was amazing.

I'm very familiar with this brewery and their product. They are doing some phenomenal things. I recommend tracking it down

Really nice hoppy notes. Has an alcohol taste like an imperial ipa. But still is smooth. Hides the alcohol pretty well for a 11.25% brew

Golden amber liquid with a white head that leaves a nice decoration on the glass. Thin covering not top. Big healthy malt backbone with light caramel, sugary dough, a clean light yeast bodied fruitiness. Some pepper wrapped alcohol. Taste is darn near perfect. A malt construct that is bready and sweet. Caramel and crystal malt blend to create a sweet platform that launches the ginormous hop barrage. Pine and citrus abound. Hop resin and oil coat the mouth. Finish is sharp and oily. Kind of longish with a minty flourish. Feel is full with a mild cream touch. An exceptional beer, how can the booze be this well hidden? A great thirst quencher and all day sipper.

Trying this for a second time....can in a mixed 6pck I bought at the beer store around the corner. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had hints of pine and bitter citrus peel. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink for a 130+ IBU IPA. There is some pine resin and grapefruit zest. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

Excellent beer! I've had Pliny the Elder on tap at Russian River and this is as close to that as I've had. Light amber color and thin head with some nice lacing on the glass. Strong initial taste with a smooth finish. 11.25 abv!! Overall a great beer! Expensive but worth every penny.

Pours a clear orange color with a thin white head that leaves some lacing around the glass. Smell is of orange, mango, pineapple, grapefruit, pine, and alcohol. Taste follows the nose but the bitterness and tropical fruits are very up front. Orange, grapefruit and pine come in later. Lingering bitterness that coats your tongue. Alcohol is almost undetectable. Mouthfeel is about as thin as you can get with 11.25% but obviously still on the thicker side. I would like some more carbonation as well. I feel like I would enjoy this more if the bitterness was lessened some to let the aromas really shine. Obviously, the bitterness is there to cover up the alcohol though. Overall, a great TIPA. I had this about a year ago (actually my untappd said it was back in March) and it's incredible how my palate has changed since then. I doubt I would've been able to pick up all the flavors back then. I've heard from several people that this is actually the same recipe as Pliny the Younger. I'm guessing that was just BS to use as a selling point. Most "clones" show no Citra in the recipe, but a hop bill more similar to Elder (Centennial, CTZ, Simcoe, Amarillo). This bottle was labeled 10/31/14 so freshness is somewhat a factor. I'm actually surprised at how good a two week old TIPA has held up. I'm going to guess that if this were around 2 weeks old there would be quite a difference in the hop presence. Nowhere near the dreaded barleywine territory most DIPAs/TIPAs face after a few months. Good on Knee Deep for making several high quality and high ABV DIPAs though. Especially year round ones.

Poured from a bomber bottled on 12/4/2014. Some folks seem to think that this, when fresh, can give the younger a run for its money. Having not had it on tap, I suppose i'm not totally qualified to say but I remember younger having more vanilla and less bitterness making it.. well.. marginally better. Still a tasty beer when fresh.
