375ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead taster.

A~ hazy light orange/yellow with a medium head and a lot of lacing

S~ tons of tequila on the nose which leads to a little boozyness followed by citrus, a lot of lime and little barnyard funk.

T~ follows the nose with thankfully less tequila ending with some bready saison yeast on the finish.

M~ wayyyyyy thicker than regular brother which is kind of off putting. otherwise nice carbonation.

O~ extremely different than anything HF has ever done. cool to try but really not my thing. if it didn't make for a crazy thick mouthfeel i might have enjoyed it more.

375 mL bottle. Hazy golden orange body. Smells of tequila, oak, lime, and light acidity. Tastes of oak throughout. Lime and citrus. Wheat. A little sweetness. Tequila comes through with oak in the back end. I was afraid of the tequila at first, but it works very well. Light and nicely tart. Really nice. I actually think the tequila adds a nice dimension.

Amazingly complex, dusty dried citrus, funk and hay on the nose, little bit of nuttiness, it tastes like a carbonated mixed citrus margarita, tequila is there but not over the top, the barrel definitely adds another level. Killer variant!

Popped this bottle at Dasiwa, Philly, PA, a great BYO sushi place in Fairmount.

Served at just over room temp...about 45mins out of the fridge in an insulated holder. Pale amber color, cloudy, lower carb giving just a small ringlet that dissipated. All the goodness of BroSoi in the aroma, citrus juice, stone fruit, spicy funk, with an additional heavy barrel element that blended well. In the taste, again, very similar to the base beer overall, but a definite hit of tequila and oak mid- to end-palate. The tequila notes naturally complimented the lime already in the beer, which really overall made this a completely different beast than the base. At nearly room temp, the mouthfeel was a bit more chewy and heavy from the strong barrel, and while the tequila was surely present, there was no real booze or burn in this...just really well-melded. Still, it did lack the crisp finish I prefer in regular Soigne, or other HF/GR saisons. This was a great one to try. The limited nature of the batch (1pp and 375ml bottles) leads me to think it was a risk of an experiment on HF's part, but they ended up pulling it off, and hopefully they make this again.

375ml bottle, poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass. Enjoyed on 4.6.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a copper color, pinkish hues with some peach color when struck by the light. Lightly hazy this beer has a faint white head with low retention but great lace. The aroma is very heavy on the tequila barrel, sweet agave, charred oak with blood orange and lime acidity and some faint soft grains. The tequila barrel really dominates the nose, a bit tart, a bit sweet, the scorched oak doesn't really compliment either quality. The flavors are more of the same, very strong tequila barrel with lots of lime acidity, the oak is more smooth and carries the flavors a bit better, light tartness with a bit of smoke at the finish, blood orange juice is nice and some mineral water lingers. The mouthfeel is good, coating, lively with a nice bubbly texture, medium body and a very smooth finish that leaves just a lingering tart sensation.

Verdict: A good reinterpretation of Brother Soigné from Grassroots Brewing. The tequila barrel is perhaps a bit overexpressed in this beer, a bit smokey, lots of scorched and charred wood that distracts a bit from the brighter and more delicate elements of the base beer.

Bottle shared by yourfragile. Thanks Michael.

Served alongside Brother Soigné.

The beer is light golden with a filmy white head. Excellent use of barrels. Sophisticated, elegant. Some green pepper and garden notes in the aroma. Silky smooth and juicy on the palate. Absolutely wonderful.
