12oz bottle poured into HF over-sized wine glass stemware. Thanks to uvm2003 for sending this to me in the BIF. Probably bottled at least two years ago at this point. There is a date labeled what appears to be 7/25/12, not sure if that is a best by date as I'm pretty sure this beer was made over two years ago.
Tired Hands collab brewed with long-grain red rice, schezuan pepper-corns, and Yuzu fruit. According to label: "If there exists such a beer as an Asian Farmhouse ale, this is our rendition of it.
A- Gusher as soon as the cap is taken off, tried to pour fast so it didn't get all over my counter. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a big foamy white head that measures at least 4-5 fingers. Nice consistent carbonation.
S- Classic hf saison yeast, a little bit of brett, lemons, slight pepper-corn, other fruits that I can't put my finger on (probably because I have no idea what Yuzu fruit is). Aroma has held up incredibly well.
T- Saison yeast with a bit of fruit reminiscent of a bit of lemons, oranges, passion fruit, etc (I'm assuming this is from the Yuzu fruit), faint funk, slight pepper-corns on the finish and can taste the rice aspect slightly. Very well balanced, clean saison qualities, held up extremely well- never had this fresh but seems like it hasn't deteriorated at all.
M- Medium bodied, clean, crisp, decent carbonation, light fluffy head, all the great qualities of a saison.
O- This beer holds all the great qualities of a perfectly crafted saison and has held up surprisingly well after being brewed well over two years ago. The "Asian-aspect" of this beer comes out nicely and adds a nice unique characteristic balancing with the saison qualities of the beer. This was an absolute treat to try and is definitely still worth seeking out. This makes me want to open up some of the HF saisons that I've been cellaring for over a year.
