Pours a vibrant, hazed golden-orange color, with a sizzling, huge white head, slowly fading down to a glass coating lacing.

The nose is full of tart lemon zest, accompanied by white bread, funky cheese and leather, building the beers foundation. Its fruit impression gets enhanced by sour blood orange rind and wet mushrooms. All in all the aromas feature an intriguing balance between tart fruits and pleasant funk, coming well together, with notes of old potatoes, forest flowers and saw dust.

Has an incredibly smooth mouthfeel to it, while the carbonation remains unusual high, which leads to an outstandingly pleasant drinking experience, finishing with soft mineralic qualities.

Tastes of matured hops, hay, lemon rind and dough bread, while its fantastic mouthfeel and clean design reveals a plethora of nuances, encouraging me to keep on drinking. The beers refreshing qualities reveal themselves, as luscious, funk coated blood orange gets introduced. It packs a rich fruitiness, as well as a bitter punch, successfully balanced by hay and crackers. Its aqueous, mineralic quality gets the most noteable during the finish, due to a fusion of lively carbonation, blood orange and lime, creating a sappy, bitter, pleasantly funky finish, with a hint of fructose to it, adding even more depth to the bitterness.

While this is certainly funky and tart, fruits are the mvp in this beer. The main difference to the popular fruit juice ipas is, that this beer is not entirely based on the fruits. It entangles them into recognizable barnyard qualities, which all benefit from the beers fantastic balance, opening the palate to many details, which becomes the beers biggest strengh overall. Very unique in taste, successfull on all fronts, while remaining its focussed freshness, this one is a winner.

A - Orange body, slightly hazy, with a thin white head, tracing the sides with mild lacing. Second pour is understandably much more hazy, turning transparency to translucent.

S - A slightly spiky tang of acidity and fruit notes. Hints of funk below, mostly horse blanket and earth.

T - Brisk and dry. A year has done nothing wrong here, but it has dropped some of the fruit notes out. The remaining hits are mostly in the lime, any blood orange is dialed back. The close is mildly biting, but nothing is punishing. The end hints at sweet tarts, and orange oils. Subtle and strong, this is nuanced sour.

M - Everything is measured without being soft. Bright and slightly puckering, but light enough to not tax.

O - A fine sour saison, very tasty and with a lot to explore. The lime is front and center, but there are all kinds of citrus highlights, and lots of nice but not overpowering acidity.

Unknown vintage; drank 6/26/15 @ Golgi Apparatus.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Opaque dandelion appearance.

White head; strong lace.

Fresh-cut grass & lemon notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Lemon & fresh-cut grass flavors up front; spring water freshness on the finish. A very refreshing summer brew.

750ml bottle that I picked up at the brewery last weekend. Poured into a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass today, 12/2/2013.

Pours a hazy orange body, looking like a delicious IPA really, with a nicely effervescent 2cm white head with great retention. Leaves some lacing on the glass as I drink it. Looks more like Abner than it does a HF saison.

Smells fantastic- very intense, spicy and zesty citrusy with a lovely funk component to it. Musty, funky, whatever you want to call it, without being sour. Definitely some of that Brett component in this beer for sure.

Tastes just as good as it smells. Definitely get lime on the back end, but from the beginning to the end, the mustiness is delicious and well accentuated by the citrus throughout. It must be the blood oranges in the middle, with the lime at the end. This is a fantastic saison and one of the best I've had.

Suffers a little here- lighter bodied, good carbonation but it is easily drinkable. No significant ABV presence at all. The lime leaves a nice zesty citrus backend on the tongue, dry and refreshing.

This is a fantastic saison and as a BA I met in Vermont said, do NOT sleep on Brother Soigne. This is a fantastic saison at a great price point of $10 for a 750ml. I would have bought a lot more than 2 bottles had I realized how good it was.

On tap at Proletariant in NYC; pours hazy gold color with a small off white head that left minimal spotty lacing.

Smells of barnyard funk, light caramel, yeast, green apples, grapes, pears and a whole fruit basket, mixed with malt or grains that come off both sour and sweet. Basic yet very complex at the same time.

Tastes very acidic and like a mimosa, with a lot of citrus like orange juice, lime juice, fresh squeezed lemon, red grapefruit and then some tart green apple, pear and white wine and/or champagne. The funk, Brett and barnyard earthy notes are the second act and work extremely well with the strong citrus and fruit in general. Very different and really damn refreshing tasting, it's like drinking a glass of outside air with a fruit mixer.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and almost watery, with a light feel, zesty champagne like carbonation and a mild funky taste that kicks in before the sour and tart finish which is on the clean side. Extremely easy to drink, this was a great light farmhouse ale that was perfect in its simplicity as it was just complex enough to be different with every sip. Highly recommended.
