750 mL bottle to tulip glass

A: The brew has a yellow-orange color with a cloudy haze, while an easy pour yields a huge, fluffy white head that never really recedes at all.

S: The nose is straightforward farmhouse with a lemony bent - Brett-funk, dried grass, commercial rubber, cherries and lemon. Crackery yeast edges the bouquet.

T: Flavors follow, although a little more hoppy than the nose portends. Plenty of funk, and depth of flavor with nuances of lemon peel, white pepper, flower petals, and a hint of cherries. Oaky and crackery overtones throughout the sip, with a short, clean and refreshing finish.

M: Light-medium bodies, relatively low in carbonation for the style.

Nothing fancy here, just a tasty Saison that could work as a session brew.

I got a bottle of this at Susan’s Wine Shop in Santa Fe, NM. Very nice rustic saison, excellent with leftover salmon!

Initially pours a fairly clear yellow color with nice white head and good lacing. Swishing the bottle at the end produces a flavorful slightly murky yellow. Herbal and floral smell and taste. Citrus flavors of lemon and orange. Rustic and earthy. Definitely something to get again!

Batch #5 October 2016

Slightly hazed gold with a small foamy white head. Aromas of wet hay, leather, light woody spice, and a touch of lemon. Flowery Brett, light anise, cedar, wheat, peppercorns, and musty funk. Medium bodied, dry, fluffy carb. Real nice.

Batch #5 October 2016

Pours golden yellow with a dense creamy white foam head. Smells like oak, barnyardy farmhouse funk, some horse blanket, leathery brett, hay, straw, bready crackery pale malts, lemon, orange citrus, grapefruit, peppery clove spices, banana, vanilla, apple, pear, with floral earthy herbal grassy hops. Tastes clean and refreshing with lemony orange grapefruity citrus, barnyardy farmhouse funk, horse blanket, leathery brett, oak barrel, hay, straw, caramelized bready crackery malts, vanilla, banana, peppery clove phenolic spices, apple, pear esters, finishing dry with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, soft, pillowy, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice oak fermented saison with brettanomyces.

A corked and caged 750ml bottle, Batch #2, bottled in March 2014. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A slightly hazy golden orange colour with a one and a half finger off white head that had good retention and left some nice lacing.

Aroma: Funky, brett, grass, hay, green apple, apricot, lemon and oak.

Taste: Light sour, funky, brett, grass, hay, herbal, green apple, lemon peel and oak with hints of apricot.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: I kept this last bottle of Batch #2 in my cellar longer than expected, but it seems it is just as good as when I last tried it in 2016. Good funk and brett balanced with some nice fruit coming through.

750 ml bottle- Pours lightly hazy with a medium head that reduces leaving a collar. Aroma is funky, pretty, horse blanket, dusty basement, minerals. The taste is floral, fruity, apples and pears mostly, funky, minerals again, dandelion, dusty and full flavored. Delicious, perfect Brett Saison.

750ml bottle - $11.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Hued the tone of a sweet, lazy ole sunbeam. The head, initially quite frothy and tall, quickly settles back down, leaving a whitish, craggy head.

Smell: Honey-kissed barley and wheat swaddled in fruity funkiness.

Taste: Lightly bready, a little hinting of honey with a slender snap of wheat. Houses a rich variety of fruitiness, you get yourself some citrus, pineapple, green apple and peach. Nicely funky Brett character with a musty basement quality and touch of camphor. Light, low woodiness. Finishes fairly crisp, reasonably dry with some residual fruitiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Well carbonated.

Overall: A likable brew with an appealing Brett quality.

Poured into a snifter. A hazy golden color with a white head. Big Brett aroma along with grass, hay, and bread. The taste followed nicely. Huge Brett flavor. Great farmhouse notes. Dry and clean finish.

750ml bottle.

It pours a hazy dark yellow with oodles of foam, awesome sticky lacing.

The smell is of Brett, coriander, light cloves, hoppy..smells, overall, Very dry. Yummy aromas.

Brett is almost as strong in the taste as the smell. Coriander and clove here, big hop bitterness, finishes dry to the bone.

Lightish body, zesty carbonation. A true joy to sip on.
