12oz bottle, another in a swath of identical-seeming brews recently imported into Alberta from the same contract brewer, which appears, on the ground and behind the paperwork, to be Genesee.

This beer pours a hazy medium golden straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, silken foamy ecru head, which leaves some low-lying coral reef lace around the glass as it steadily recedes.

It smells of wheaty, somewhat acrid pale malt, muddled coriander, overripe lemons, neutered yeast, and a bit of herbal, weedy hops. The taste is softly sweet bready malt, with a touch of doughy pastry character, tame breakfast cereal wheatiness, ethereal savoury spice, a stale orange fruitiness, and more sedate herbal, earthy hops.

The carbonation is quite laid-back, and hardly noticeable, the body medium-light in weight, and actually pretty smooth. It finishes mostly off-dry, the wheaty, sugary, and fruity malt holding on the tightest, as the fruit and hops melt away into the approaching night.

A beginner's witbier, and agreeably wrought at that rate, with very little to none of the, well, not quite skank, but rather cheapness of its familial ilk. Too bad it's 5 bucks a sixer more expensive than Hoegaarden around here, which leads to the obvious question - why bother?

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, faded and dirty straw yellow with a thick, 2 finger white head. Retention is good, the the resulting lace is thick and clingy.

Smell - Strong whiffs of coriander, wheat and yeast, and a subtle hint of lemon.

Taste - Predominately wheat, with strong notes of orange and coriander spice throughout. Finishes with a layer of yeast and soft lemon bitterness.

Mouthfeel - The body is watery and underdeveloped and, despite the promise in the pour, the carbonation falls a bit flat.

Overall - A witbier with nicely developed flavors , but the paper thin body is it's Achilles heel. Somewhat enjoyable despite the glaring weakness.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on February 13, 2014.

It pours a slightly hazy pale yellow but the clarity is better than most wits. There is a quick lasting white fizzy head.

Something about this aroma is way off. Whether it is the spice mixture or what but I got the distinct impression of big spray. Pale malts and citrus were overpowered by it.

Light zesty body.

The taste has a toasted malt note, lemongrass, coriander, and maybe ginger with a muted by dry finish. But unfortunately the aroma really took control of everything and it was hard to enjoy.

Pours a good finger of off-white head over a straw body. Lacing tries for a split second, then tumbles back down. Beer is hazy, but no sediment is noticed.

The entire nose seems subdued. Tired earthy/gardeny hops with a lackluster spice profile. Yeast is also quiet and a bit of sweetness from the malt almost seems fake.

Yeast, cracked wheat and a bit of light malt start this off. Spices seem a little more impressive in the flavor, but the hops are still subdued.

Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied. Drinks like a lawnmower beer with a dry finish.

A - Hazy gold to amber color with some fine bubbles, a pretty thick white head that dissipates after a few mins and leaves a tiny bit of lacing.

S - Wheat, spice and a bit of yeast.

T - Mostly just wheat flavor with a bit of yeast, slight clove/allspice flavor but not much. Perhaps a lemon hint as well.

M - Light bodied with moderate carbonation, feels good on the pallet.

O - Could do with some more flavor and either a bit more spice or lemon or some banana/bubble gum or something to make it less boring.

Roscoe's Hop House Belgian White from Rochester, NY.

This beer had a great, light lemony wheat flavor. Very refreshing and flavorful. Very good witbier.

I drank it out of a bottle from Food City in Knoxville, TN on 12/16/2012 from a create your own 6-pack.

Into a pint glass:

A: hazy golden colored body and yielded a small white head that appeared only for a minute, minimal lacing was left

S: some wheat, spice, not much else

T: bland wheat and off tasting spice

M: light with a fair amount of carbonation hitting the mouth and tongue

O: I don't think this is a beer that I would buy again, just not worth it

From a six packed that my wife picked up on a recent shopping trip in NY. The beer is pale...a milky, hazy yellow color. Bright white head with lots of lace. It's a light and sweetish brew...some very pale malt, grass, wheat twang, and spice. Slight fruit flavors...peach and orange. The beer is soft and light. Enjoyable after mowing the lawn.
