Brewed each spring to celebrate our brewery’s annual day off to go morel mushroom hunting, this excitingly hazy double IPA is a tribute to our love of great hops and morels. Created with a combination of Pacific Northwest and Southern hemisphere hops, Scorpius Morchella is meant to be shared with friends on a warm spring afternoon.

Scorpius Morchella Double IPA by Toppling Goliath. 7.8% ABV 100 IBUs. A little more bitter and less fruit than King Sue. More grapefruit profile. Nice carbonation with good head and lots of lacing. Pale yellow/gold and hazy. Overall very good…liked King Sue better with fruitier profile.

Mango, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit and pine in aroma. All of those with some berry in the taste. It's a complex ipa with the appropriate bitterness. Could definitely have another. Pretty ridiculous lacing on this as well. Overall, another winner from toppling goliath.

Very hazy orange creamsicle color with a substantial creamy ivory head that retains well and produces abundant lacing.
The aroma is mixed citrus and pine resin with a trace of fresh bread and white pepper.
The taste starts with a blast of west coast piney hops then progresses to a tropical fruit medley with grapefruit, satsuma, lemon, lime, mango, passion fruit, etc..The finish circles back to pine resin with lingering grapefruit, honey and white pepper. Wow! This leaves your mouth wanting to try it one more time.
The body is medium, creamy with abundant carbonation.
Altogether this is an orgy of sensations. Very Enjoyable. What kind of mushrooms do they hunt?

Appearance: Pours a completely hazy (10% clarity), medium orange color with a large white head. SRM of 7. (4.25)

Aroma: Relatively moderate aromas of grapefruit, lime, some apple and star fruit. Some asian tropical notes.

Flavor: Moderate flavors of sweet orange, pineapple, green grape, citrus, and melon. Some sweet fruit, but not really juicy. Does have a lightly lingering bitterness among the strong malt sweetness. (4.00)

Feel: Medium to heavier bodied. Relatively lower carbonation. Finish leans sweet, with a light green bitterness to match. (

Compared to Toppling Goliath King Sue 5/21/22: Pours a darker color. Milder aromas. More green citrus. Less orange/mango. Sweeter, and less bright. Winner: King Sue

Overall: A decent NEIPA here. Has some tropical fruit sweetness and some green fruit flavors. The aromas and flavors are relatively milder. The carbonation is relatively low. Allows it to lean sweeter. Some lingering bitterness. It's definitely underwhelmingwhen compared to King Sue, but still a quality IPA. (Rating: 4.07)

It's like a West Coast NEIPA... Fluffy and soft, plush carbonation, and juicy frothy citrus fruits, BUT with a pine shellac and stickiness - not quite oily, but its there... Features "Pacific northwest and southern hemisphere" hops... Gotta appeal to fans of the danker hopped ales and the NEIPA crowd - I certainly dug it...

16oz can from Tavour. Hazy yellow golden pour with a creamy white head . Light bready aroma. Taste is also soft, bready malts, mild sweetness, and light bitterness. This is not the hop bomb I was imagining, instead a very approachable hazy IPA.

Superb, how is that for a word? Pours thick like orange juice with a thick and lathery head. Nose is very citrusy and partly piney. Taste is all citrus and smooth. Very good beer.

Hazy rich yellow sunset, big frothy 3" head that leaves loose but thick streak of lacing. Nose is pretty ephemeral, dissipating after a minute or two air out. What remains is melon, light pine, black pepper, even some charred wood, but overall it's oddly faint. Taste tilts sweet - orange juice from concentrate with some spicy, fruity, peppery backbone that lingers nicely. Mostly one-note, mostly pleasant, but not earth shattering and too sweet and tacky to make me want another one. Mouthfeel is soft with some light, prickly carbonation.
