L: Pours a dark chocolate, forms a very thin espresso head. No appreciable lacing or retention. Held to the light, the beer has a pitch black hue.

S: Aromas of vanilla, malts, chocolate, and nuts. Hints of coconut.

T: Heavy dark chocolate, pistachios, and bourbon barrel. Some granola/almonds and spice. Toasted malts.

F: Medium-bodied, smooth and silky. No carbonation.

O: Solid bourbon barrel-aged stout. Pistachios are right in your face. Nice flavor profile, good body and aromas.

On tap at Hunahpu Day 2019. Inky black. Smells of soy sauce, bourbon, oak, and roasted malt. Tastes sweet right up front. Soy sauce and bourbon close behind the sugar. Roasted malt permeates, but it always tends toward soy sauce. Heavy and slow to drink. I didn't even finish my tiny festival pour.

This definitely has that used motor oil look, but is topped by a perfectly uniform, thick mocha blanket that I wasn't expecting out of this barrel aged stout.

It's also a thickly viscous, almost gloppy but delicious blend of all the things I love about Assassin. Mature influences of lightly charred oak on the stout introduce Tootsie Roll, Raisinets, and complex but mild bourbon with a dry yet sticky finish. Yet there is no offensively hot booze to detract from the experience.

God damn I might actually like this more than regular Assassin.

Poured on tap into snifter at the brewery.
A: Pours a super dark brown with thin skim of dark mocha head.
S: Leather, molasses, baker’s chocolate, tobacco, bourbon, and a hint of dark dried fruit.
T: Follows aroma almost to a T. Leather, molasses, smooth bittersweet chocolate, tobacco, bourbon, fig, and raisins.
M: Medium heavy body...less than expected. Very velvety smooth. Darkly sweet with mild bitterness and mild alcohol burn. Perfection here.
D: Good complexity and surprisingly drinkable. Well done, TG!

In retrospect, this was actually Term Oil 18-A.
