Pours a hazy muddy straw color with over a full finger of head. The nose is quite citrusy but there are also dank notes. The flavor has a tasty combination of juice and bitterness.

This offering is advertised as low on bitterness but I thought that it was plenty bitter for a sub-8% IPA.

High marks all around.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on February 19, 2020. Brewed with Azacca, Citra, Columbus, Galaxy, Mosaic and Sabro hops. Medium body and low bitterness. Notes of pineapple, orange and passion fruit. A layered finish of soft pine.

This is a great beer! It definitely has the Toppling Goliath hop flavor. As usual with all of their IPAs, the smell, feel, and look is spot on. The beer has a great balance of sweet and hops. One of my new favorites and I'll have to try it next to some King Sue to see if it's my favorite of theirs overall.

On tap. Poured a very cloudy, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of orange, pineapple and toasted caramel. Sweet tropical fruit taste with caramel and a piney bitterness.

Hazy white apricot-orange pour that kicks up a half inch of lacy foam. Looks delicious. Smells of citrus, mangoes, unripe papaya. Creamy mouthfeel is spot on with citrusy-orange and tropical-pineapple flavors offsetting firm resinous hop bitterness. Nicely hop forward and light sweet tropical elements linger into a clean finish. Mildly warming but is balanced making a (too) easily drinkable big DIPA. Delicious.

16oz can, dated 02.04.2020, poured into a 14oz snifter glass.

The beer pours a nice golden color, very hazy with straw and orange hues and a foamy white head, about a finger and a half tall that has modest retention and light lacing. The aroma is pleasant, dank and weedy, grassy, lightly floral with lots of pineapple and orange juice, light citrus rind and sweet yeast. The flavors are good, juicy tropical fruits with lots of pineapple and valencia orange, dank and very grassy, resinous with nice pine and citrus peel, somewhat floral, a bit boozy with a nice cereal grain finish. The mouthfeel is good, super smooth and coating medium body that finishes with a crisp and dry bite.

Verdict: A very nice IPA from Toppling Goliath. Juicy and fresh with a great range of hoppy flavors but undone a bit by the booziness.

TG does it again with another awesome DIPA. I love King Sue and this is equally as yummy, not as fruit forward but so good! Highly recommend!!!
L-hazy golden yellow
S-citrus forward
T-classic TG, fruity tangy, not bitter
F-great all over
I- winner DIPA, May be rare to find, it’s a great one!

I have been dabbling with Bottles, collabs, spiced/pepper beers, everything except for The CANQuest (tm) for the past few days. Now, I am ready for a CANned beer! Not just any old CANned beer, either, but one from Toppling Goliath. 8=O I CAN't believe that we are getting distro from them here in SCPA, but they will find PA in general to be a viable market. This was one of my last purchases at/from Rieker Bottle Works before everything went to shut-down/shut-in.

From the CAN: "Double India Pale Ale"; "Sun Reaper eclipses all others with its medium body and mild bitterness. A hop-derived explosion of pineapple, orange, and passion fruit flavors up front with a layer of soft pine in the finish."; "Live beer, please refrigerate!"; "Brewed in beautiful Decorah, IA".

I looked at the brewery's website & NOTHING suggests that this is anything other than an AmeriCAN Imperial (Double) India Pale Ale (IPA)! I will be reviewing it as an AIIPA & submitting a ChANge request when I am finished.

I beCAN by Crack!ing open the vent for the beginning of a slow, gentle C-Line Glug, but its clarity quickly belied its current designation as an NEIPA. I allowed it to run a bit more freely until the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head caused me to have to back down & off. Color was a gorgeous Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with 24-carat clarity, causing The Gelt Gang of Midas, Croesus & Mammon to come out of isolation & join me in my kitchen for a taste! Nose was full-on passion fruit! There was just NO mistaking it. I first got turned onto the flavor in the now-defunct Tropical Fruit Life Savers rolls. I found it a little weird as a kid, but when I had my first bite of the actual fruit, I was hooked! Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, perhaps a bit light for the style, but with an oily slickness on the tongue & in the mouth. The taste was definitely tropical with passion fruit front, left, right & center with the orange & pineapple as its back-ups.

Goldang, this was SUCH a welcome relief after several days of Stouts! I do not mind 'em, per se, but they have a cumulative ability to bind me up like nobody's business. I then feel bloated & gassy until everything (literally) passes, plus they turn my stool an ugly black color that can be frightening at times. Ugh.

Back to this gem. What a pleasure to be drinking a hop-driven beer again. Each sip was like the singing of a choir of CANgels. The finish evinced a cool, minty dryness that was the "soft pine" that they mentioned on the label. It made for an engaging, pleasant interlude during the slow passage of yet CANother day in self-quarantine. YMMV.

16oz can, PKG02/07/20. Murky and opaque pineapple juice look with a thick frothy off-white head. Juicy aroma of pineapple, citrus, pine, and passion fruit. Flavors are similar to aroma with notes of ripe pineapple, passion fruit, tangerine, green hops, and pine. Medium-full bodied, ample carbonation, moderately bitter; tart and dry finish. Excellent as expected.
