20 month bourbon barrel imperial stout with Vanilla & Panama Geisha Coffee. Notes of vanilla frosting, dark chocolate, and fresh frothed espresso gently segue into bourbon-drizzled brownies. Sip. Savor. Enjoy!

Bottle pour; dark as night and full bodied pour that produced a quickly dissipating head. Nose of coffee, barrel, and booze. Flavors were top notch, never approaching pastry sweetness but delivering a big beer.

Pours a rich, oily-looking dark brown, with a half-finger of fizzy, red wine-tinted, dark-mocha head that quickly dissipates into a thin crown. Very modest, spotty lacing.

Brownie batter and bourbon with strong vanilla and light almond notes stand out in the aroma. There are hints of caramel, plum and cabernet behind.

The taste is sweet with the same brownie, caramel and red wine elements, tempered only by some very light coffee mid-palate. Sweet vanilla, and maybe even a kiss of maple, dominate the finish. Just a hint of coffee bitterness lingers with the chocolate and wine in the aftertaste.

Oily with very strong fizz in the feel.

It’s certainly a very good beer, but the whole may be a little less than the sum of the parts in this one. For a brew of this pedigree (and price), the coffee doesn’t really pop; the vanilla seems a little heavy handed; and the fizz is definitely too strong.

I had this beer on tap at the Shadow Raptor bottle release. It exceeded my expectations greatly and had that incredible TG stout mouthfeel. It far surpassed the bottle of 2019 Assassin I had the day prior. A balanced amount of coffee, not bitter or overpowering, and a nice vanilla that complements the barrel well.

Bottle. Not overally aromatic nose. Coffee is bitter and overall gives the beer a very roasty character that dominates. Subtle yet fleeting sweetness. The mouthfeel is good enough, but is lacking compared to other TG stouts which tend to be silkier. Not a ton of barrel present. This one certainly improves as it warms. As a coffee fiend I find the coffee presence to be overall disappointing, lacks a robust coffee essence on the nose and palate.

From bottle, within 2 weeks of release.

No head upon pour with exception around the edge of glass. I get loads of vanilla, and I get loads of bourbon heat. Some chocolate and coffee, even maybe spice from somewhere. The nice thing here is the barrel presence along with the adjuncts. The negative is that it may be too much heat for some and could do with 6-9 months of mellowing. This beer also got substantially better as it warmed to room temp and as it lost carbonation. Medium-thick feel.

On tap. Black color. Oily.

Honestly, this is a let down. Starts out nice, but the aftertaste isn’t good. The coffee in the aftertaste is stale. Very light coffee. Very bitter. Has a fudgey flavor. Some nice barrel. The geisha was wasted with this one. Don’t drink this next to kbbs, coconut assassin, etc.
