Golden Nugget IPAGolden Nugget IPA
Notes: This spectacularly golden, medium bodied IPA was crafted from a winning combination of Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops. Fall in love with the big hop aroma of our Golden Nugget as it mingles with fragrances of citrus and evergreen, followed by a floral sweetness. Tropical fruit flavors entice your taste buds before immediately captivating you with a bold, hop forward taste and a pleasant bitterness in the finish.

16 ounce can, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch and a half frothy off-white head that stayed around for a long time. There's also a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells mostly like pine and citrusy (tropical fruit, pineapple, mango and citrus peel) hops, along with some bready malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of a bit of peach and white pepper flavors. Taste does seem to have less of a kick compared to the aroma. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was a decent enough IPA, worth a try if you've never had it before.

Sampled in the tap room. Im a little confused with all of their Pale Ales and IPAs. I feel they are all very similar, except maybe this one did not have the citrus flavors like Pseudo Sue, Hopsmack and Pompeii. Im not trained enough to see big difference. Was good though, like the others not too hoppy, easy to drink.

Amazing beer. Great mouthfeel and robust flavor profile. The pour shows this beer means business with lots of sediment evident as you pour. It smells of a complex IPA with a strong hop floral array. One of the things that will turn me off on an IPA is an overly piney taste. It is not present here. Taste of floral tropical with a pleasant bitter hop aftertaste.

Hazy yellow orange pour. Tropical citrus nose with mango/papaya. "Old School" IPA. Small bitterness taste but nice tropical flavor. Good malt aftertaste. Well worth the time.

On tap mini review: 07/05/19.

Not the most aromatic beer out there as nothing seems to pop on the nose beyond sweet citrus fruits and sticky sweet and rich caramel malts. The taste is supaaa juicy, I mean juicy to beat the band with only a touch of bitterness creeping in at the end, wow! Mango, papaya, stone fruit, pineapple and the list could just keep on going. Assorted tropical fruits everywhere. Sweet and rich caramel malts explode and meld with the citrus toward the finish. The beer takes on a sticky sweet flavor but thankfully not syrupy and it never gets cloying. All around solid, approaching world class. I would love to find cans of this one as I fear the on tap temperature is hiding some aspects of this beer.

The deep orange can pour holds a dense haze and 2 cm of fluff. The aroma is mostly pineapple and mango, but the flavor is pine resin dominated in the first pour and trends toward tropical esters as more yeast swirls into the glass. The mouthfeel is smooth and the hop bitterness is moderate. This is a full-flavored IPA with a firm malt base and a range of hop flavors, really enjoyable.

A: hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger tan head that fades pretty quickly

S: huge punch of tangerine, pineapple, orange, orange zest, apricot, mango, papaya, and strawberry. Dry crackery aroma as well with a hint of sweet caramel malts. Awesomely juicy aroma

T: pineapple, mango, peach, guava, and some bitter grapefruit upfront. Strawberry and tea leaf bitterness behind that. A touch of sweet malts as well. Finish is mild tea leaf bitterness

M: medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation

O: a nice kick of bitterness in here. Aroma is super juicy, but the flavor packs some bitterness. Well-harmonized and easy to drink. Good stuff

Sixteen-ounce can copped from Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell. Pours a golden, hazy hue with ample frothing. Redolent aroma replete with laces of pineapple and candied citrus. Menagerie of flavors wreaking elements of sweet pine and green apple. Highly recommended.

Pours a medium orange with a massive off white head (took up more than half the glass) that was well retained and left ample lacing. Smells and tastes of mango, cantaloupe, tangerine, pine, floral notes and some sweet caramel malts. Medium bodied, well carbonated, dry finish with light bitterness.

Poured from a pint can into a tulip

Pours a beyond hazy, very cloudy golden orange, with a nice two-fingered pillowy head. During the typical pour, it kicks up some flecks of sediment, which settle rather quickly.

The aroma is rather subdued, but pleasant. Crackery/honey malts, lemon citrus, and hints of tropical fruit are present. A touch of lemongrass and herb, and maybe a hint of booze.

The flavor is a bit more aggressive, and pleasingly so. Although the malts hit the tip of the tongue at the start, the hops are the star of this show with remarkable complexity. The tropical and citrus flavors hit the front and mid palate with ruby red grapefruit, mango, and orange zest. White stone fruits (peach and apricot) also show up mid palate, finished with white grape and a bit of white pepper. The spicy white pepper is a harbinger of some mild pine/resin flavor. Overall, a solid display of classic modern IPA flavors.

The brew is pretty much middle of the road medium bodied, with adequate carbonation, although barely so.

Overall a remarkably simple yet solid IPA.

Decanted from a 16 oz (475 ml) into a conical pint glass; canned 12/12/18, best by 4/11/19.
A: Pours a hazy, golden-orange color with ochre highlights, a four finger, yes four finger, fluffy, white head (think meringue), over the top retention, and sticky lacing all the way down the side of the glass. Lots of yeasty goodness in the can that adds to the cloudiness on addition to the glass and sediment at the bottom. Love it.
S: Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, honey, pine, and caramel. Maybe some ripe, ripe peach and mango notes. Such an olfactory cornucopia.
T: Sweet to semisweet. Flavor pallet largely follows the nose. Peppery bitterness sufficient to create counterpoise to sweetness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation overall. Slightly astringent on the way down, fitting the bitterness.
O: Golden Nugget is an over the top quality IPA. Have had a couple of other beers from TG, as it recently started shipping to NY metro, but this could keep company with any superior NEIPA I have had. A shout out to Growlers in Tuckahoe, NY for hosting their "coming out" launch. Top shelf stuff.
PS: Really like the fact that TG gives "canning" and "best by" information. This really needs to be an industry standard.

$ 5.24 (Including shipping)/16 oz can ($ 0.328/oz) from Tavour, Seattle, WA. Reviewed 3/3/19.
“CANNED: 12/12/18, BEST BY: 04/11/19” stamped on bottom of the can. Stored upside down at 42 degrees and served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.25.
Body – Yellow and hazily opaque.
Head – Large (Maximum seven cm, aggressive center pour), off-white, medium density, average retention, diminishing to a lacy, irregular, five to ten mm ring and a thick partial layer. Head retraction leaves behind some small islands of lacing.
Lacing – Good. A wide band of predominantly tiny bubbles with a few small bubbles and multiple stalactites.
First pour – Yellow, hazy.
Aroma – 4 - Initially a burst of grapefruit but that quickly morphs into a spicy, herby, mélange which fades but is still noticeable for the remainder of the pour.
Flavor – 4.25 - Herby and vegetal, there are definite highlights of spice and a soft, pulpy, wood such as poplar. No alcohol (6.8% ABV), no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, almost creamy, lively carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – A bit different than the Sue series because of the use of only nugget hops. The woodiness is different from the vanillin-forward oak mostly used in brewing, being virtually vanillin-free and tending more toward a chemically processed wood product or just a soft hardwood but not the wet cardboard flavor of oxidation.

This was my first time drinking a beer from Toppling Goliath. I admit that I signed up for Tavour just in hopes of finding a Kentucky Brunch from TG. So this wasn't the beer I was looking for, and I don't usually go for IPAs, but I was glad I gave this one a try.

Poured an cloudy orange color with several inches of foamy white head which left some lacing on the glass.

Aroma was mild and consisted of citrus and hops.

Taste was clean with a hint of pine and moderate citrus. The can mentions lingering pleasant bitterness and I would say that is pretty accurate. Can also mentioned "floral sweetness" which I didn't find, but maybe my taste buds less sophisticated.

Overall it's an IPA I would (and will) drink again.

Canned on 12/12/2018. Poured to Birrateque IPA 18OZ Glass on 03/01/2019. Almost 3 month old.
Prefer to drink fresh, therefore, majority of my drinks are local and consume less than 2 weeks from canned date. Therefore, following comments may have handicap.
A: Light Orange and hazy. one Finger of cloud. Nice lacing.
S: Citrus, pineapple and earthy aromas.
T: Mango and tropical fruit as well as malts notes.
M:Crisp, Medium carbo. Slightly creamy but with constant bitterness.
O:Slightly sticky sweetness remain.

A: The beer is very hazy to cloudy yellow in color. It poured with a finger high white head that quickly died down, leaving some specks of bubbles on the surface, a narrow collar around the edge, and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of tropical fruits are present in the nose along with hints of herbal hops.
T: The taste has stronger and more complex flavors of the Nugget hops with strong notes of orange citrus, notes of mangos, and hints of herbs and pine. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA is quite complex given that it uses only one variety of hops. I could definitely see myself having more than one of these in a single sitting without losing interest in the beer.

2018 16oz can poured cellar temp hard to a tulip glass. Color is pale straw yellow, hazy. No real carbonation or lacing. Smell is all grapefruit. First sips follow the nose with a twang of dank in the back end. Pretty easy drinker. Very watery mouthfeel. Good but not great.

Pours an opaque orange with a finger of white foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is papaya and tangerine, followed by tangible biscuity, bready, earthy malts. Malts are about 40/60 with hops, so close to balance, much more so than other Toppling Goliath IPAs. Flavor profile is zesty, with tangerine, papaya, and loads of orange and lemon zest driving the front end, followed by bready, biscuity, earthy malts and grain. Nice balance and dynamics between hops and malts, without one dominating the other. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a light grainiess initially, that breaks up to reveal a little sharp effervescence. Overall, a splendid IPA that delivers juicy hop notes followed up by grainy malt notes, netting a supreme balance.

Fantastic head retention. Hazy opaque orange appearance to the body.

Citrus and herbal nose, fairly dank and peppery.

Very light and hoppy on the palate, appropriate for the ABV. Fruity up forward, with a huge dankness that dominates the second half.

Pours a very hazed gold with a thumb+ of rocky pearl colored head. Better than average head retention & average lacing, some floaties, always a detractor for me for the most part

S; Explosion of orange peel & pulp, passion fruit as well

T: Orange, grapefruit, a little mango & dryness up front. Orange, mango & pink grapefruit as this warms, just a little dryness & pineyness. Finishes with passion fruit & orange & a little grassyness & dryness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, lovely balance

Well put together NE IPA on the verge of greatness. Will certainly buy this again, a big fish in a small pond around here...

TOPPLING GOLIATH GOLDEN NUGGET IPA 11/18/18

Single bought on sale. Probably a few months old.

a: Cloudy orange with an inch thick white head which receded to thin surface foam and fairly dense spotty-patchy lacing.

s; Citrus leaning slightly to tangerine/orange.

t; Follows the nose with a prominent bready malt base and moderate lingering bitterness over the dry finish.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o; A fine NE style IPA, higher end of sessionable yet tasty and satisfying. If reasonably priced and more available (Iowa brewery with the top rated brew on BA, but usually not seen in my east coast state) this would be a welcome addition to my regular rotation.
