Canned Feb 27, 2017, so just at a month old. Nice lacing from the finger of head on top of the mostly clear golden pour. Not as bitter as expected, given the namesake' Nugget hops. Really nice floral notes layered on top of pineapple, guava, and mandarin. Not as bursting with flavor and intensity as the most favored IPAs of the moment, but a very well executed, restrained ale with above average complexity.

Pours gold amber. Thick, medium, white head that lasts a while with good lacing.

Smells citrus, malt, juicy, light dank and hints of pine.

Tastes citrus, orange peel, pine, bready malt. Finish is dry with a light piney linger. Medium to full body. Creamy medium carbonation. Very well balanced beer

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/12/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted bread, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, pepper, pine, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for awhile. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, moderately crisp, clean, and refreshing from the mellow bitterness. Very bright, floral, and earthy on hops; nice malt backbone without being sweet. A really enjoyable offering.

Canned May 2016.

I got this beer while in the upper Midwest at a meeting. I was able to procure some cans of this back in July so it isn't exactly fresh. Hopefully it holds up pretty well.

16oz can poured into a pint glass. Clear and amber in color with a decent sized white head atop. Solid bit of foam with good amounts of lacing. Aroma was a little flat in reference to the hops. I got the hops but there was an inordinate amount of malt. Generally, this isn't appealing to me. Not a fan of the maltiness.

After tasting, the hops were a little muted. I am attributing this to age. The flavor overall was solid. Although the hops were muted, I could tell that this one wasn't overlay malty. Not sweet and chewy like some others of similar milieu.

I would love to taste this one fresh, but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try until now. Solid beer.

Pours a hazy orange gold. Great hop nose reminisent of citrus peel. The malt profile lays low and lets a firm hop bitterness with great hop flavors of citrus and pine. This is a terrific, well made and ultimately drinkable American IPA.

Pours a golden/orange with a 1 finger head. Aroma, kind of peachy with a pine sol/ sappy hop. Taste a biscuit malt on the finish and throughout. No lingering bitterness or sweetness. Crisp and clean. A fresh hop pellet taste in here. Bit grassy and piney. Mouthfeel is a bit frothy. Overall, decent IPA. Not exactly my style for an IPA but solid.

Looks pale honey no withstanding head, mod ring/retention and decent lacing. Smells fantastic. Orange rind, lemon zest, hint of distant pine cone. Taste is balanced mix of hoppy bitterness, pine, and fresh citrus fruit. Overall liked it better than Sue. Call me crazy, but I like it more.

Poured from a 16 oz can, into a Funky Buddha snifter.

Thin, soapy, white head that dissolves fast.Dark hazy orange in color, with distorted light coming through the glass.Medium / light carbonation.

On the nose I get bitter, piney hops, and some sweet malts...Not a whole lot else going on except maybe some floral notes.

The palate follows the nose with bitter, piney hops, backed by some sweet honey malts. Also getting some floral notes.

The body is medium, with a dry finish, and chalky mouth feel.

This is a pretty good IPA,but nothing out of this world.Good as far as the pine and flora notes, and flavors go...But lacking in the citrus category.I prefer East coast IPA's,and this one seems more like a west coast to me...Still decent though.

This is one damn good beer. I'm way past my IPA days but still gave the Nuggett a whirl.
Beatiful oft-white head with an orangish hue body. Thick sticky resin hits the palate first with a deep malty backbone. Excessively smooth and no lingering bitterness. Scents of grapefruit and nectar on the nose. Nice sessionable quaff with no drawbacks.

Thanks, Sam!

I’ve had one Toppling Goliath beer before and it was Pseudo Sue, the best pale ale I ever had. Was lucky enough to get that one from Sam and this one (Golden Nugget IPA) as well. I do not expect it to be as good, but I expect to be very good. Can’t wait to try it.

Poured a straw gold amber semi-hazy color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. World-class layered spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class retention. A good looking beer. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled sweet citrus, Citra, floral, pine, tropical, sharp grapefruit, tangerine, sugary orange blossom, leafy grass and herbal. Did not get Nugget on the nose. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste followed the nose, maybe a tad thinner than I would have thought. Orange blossom, melon, cantaloupe, persimmon, floral, tangerine, orange rind, Nugget (not as woody as I would have expected), Citra, a touch of grapefruit, herbal, leafy grass and slightly woody pine. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium-to-light body. Thin-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was a very good IPA. Would recommend it for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16 oz. can into a Cigar City Brewing goblet.

A: Pours a very clear medium gold, with a one-finger white foamy head that lasts well. A good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Tropical fruits, melons, and some flowery and herbal hops. Lesser notes of citrus rind, and a very light cracker malt body. A nice aroma, though not huge.

T: Lots of melon, tropical fruits and lychee. Grapefruit pith with some dank and herbal hops as well. The palest of cracker malts – the hops are definitely the star here. Moderate bitterness in the hang with some citrus pith flavors.

M: A light crisp body for style, good carbonation sensation and low alcohol for sure. This drinks more like an APA.

O: This was good. I don't think I like it quite as well as Pseudo Sue. But it's crisp and clean with nice dry-hop flavors and aroma. A solid option to have on the shelf.

16 oz can. Hazy golden amber pour with a frothy off white head, light citrus aroma with a hint of spice and tangerine, taste has a lot of forward citrus hop action along with some pine, sweet malts in the backbone, moderate bitterness.

A deep golden ale with a low haze. pours with two fingers of thick off-white foam with very long head retention.

A strong citrus hops aroma with a low caramel malt sweetness.

More of a balanced American IPA, being built on a foundation of New World hops and bitterness but with a touch of malt sweetness to round it out.

16 oz can purchased in FL and poured into dogfish pint glass.
A: pours a crystal clear golden body, 2 finger white frothy foam head, stringy lacing that last to the finish
S: sweet floral notes that light up my senses, citrus, mango, soft pine aroma, fresh sweet biscuit
M: medium body with an almost clean finish
T: floral notes in the begining with sweet citrus in the middle, hints of evergreen or a light pine, sweet malt, sorta watery-light towards the finish, hints of pine resin finishes out the end.
O: fantastic brew from start to finish, will be a staple if I can get more in my area someday...

Canned in late July, poured into a snifter. Appearance lives up to its name – golden color with a bunch of floaties. Healthy foam and lacing, not much carbonation. Big hop presence on the smell, a little less on the taste, still a very hoppy beer. Mild bitterness, zesty, a little fruit presence. All in all, a very very good beer.

Aroma - Nice grapefruit and orange aroma, pine resin and mild hop notes

Taste - Great grapefruit and mango flavors. Hints of bitter pine and hops. Floral flavors on the finish.

Feel - Medium body well carbonated fairly dry finish.

Overall - A very good IPA bitterness well balanced with fruity flavors.

Appearance- pale orange with light carbonation and light fluffy head

Aroma -dankness up front from the nugget hop.

Taste- I am not a huge fan of smash beers. One on the one hand u get to really appreciate the golden promise grain and the nugget hop, but at the same time the lack of complexity holds back what this could be.

Mouthfeel- light with moderate to strong carbonation.

Overall- I enjoyed this beer but feel this could be so much better with a little crystal malt, and some adjuncts to boost the body.

From a month-old can, pours a pretty clear orange-gold. About a finger of off-white head leaves spotty lacing. Smell is basically pine and grapefruit, with a little malt coming through. Taste is similar, with a nice resinous bitterness in the finish. Medium-minus feel. Overall a really nice IPA, quite delicious. This could be an everyday drinker for me.

Lightly hazed golden straw colour, 1.5 fingers of white head, good lace. Smell is full of hops, massive grapefruit and tangerine, a bit of sweet malt as well as some dank pine resin notes. Taste starts out with a nice hoppy bitterness, citrus at first, grapefruit, dank pine resin, light mid palate sweetness, dry earthy finish. Light carbonation, slick medium-full body. A very well done IPA, could drink plenty of this.

This truly is a Nugget hop showcase. The nose is a mix of citrus, floral and pine notes. The taste is a little heavier on the floral and spicy side, with some sharp citrus and lots of pine. Some light bread and toasted malt. Fairly bitter. Nice dry finish with a fairly creamy medium-bodied mouthfeel. This is executed very well, but the score is a little suppressed for me simply because Nugget is not one of my favorite hops. For me, it comes across like an English IPA but with an American IPA style level of hopping. All personal preference, but I recognize a great beer when I have one.

From a bomber into a pint glass. Really pretty hazy gold with a nice soapy head. Big citrus and pine aromas along with a nice floral note as well. The taste is hop driven with citrus, pine and floral notes along with a nice malt sweetness from the golden promise. Really nice full palate that lingers well and seems to have a crispness to it from the carbonation. Overall another great single hop ipa from Toppling Goliath. Just wonderful.

16 oz can. Pours hazy golden orange with a big bubbly white head that retains well

The aroma is sweet bready malt with soft tropical fruit and some grassy piney hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with spicy floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent IPA. I'm not really liking the hop flavor profile though.
