Notes: Zelicious single-hop showcase using the Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand. Delightfully confusing aromas of citrus and mandarin oranges give way to an incredibly complex body of earth tones and marigolds. This is truly unlike any hop you’ve ever tasted.

Poured from a bomber (28Apr2020) into a Teku

L: hazy light orange yellow, massive thick white head. Nice, thick white lacing as well

S: rich, fresh tropical and citrus fruits. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, mango, lime, passionfruit. Not that overripe/dank aroma, very inviting

T: follows the nose, great fresh tropical and citrus fruit notes. Grapefruit up front with a passionfruit/tropical background. Decent bitterness with more earthy/piney flavor, medium/long finish. Full bodied at a lower (i.e. IPA-appropriate) abv, very good

F: medium carbonation, medium body - very good, nothing "wowing" but at the same time nothing wrong with it

O: very good IPA showcasing what Nelson can do. Full of flavor, nice bit of bitterness toward and through the finish, liked this one

Bottle courtesy of sverseman.
Look: light orange Julius appearance. Fluffy white head.
Smell: tangerines, oranges, grapes.
Taste: different. Tangerines dominate. White wine grapes. Also some malty bready component. Mildly bitter grassy herbal finish.
Feel: juicy, but not too thick. Dry finish despite this. Burps are delicious pine sap/citrus.
Overall: this is tasty. Would recommend this. This is the tangerine taste I remember from “OG Nelson” From alpine. Not that I don’t love other flavors produced from Nelson hops but sometimes I don’t get this tangerine out of them. Also, I think this was added to the site before New England ipa was a category. This seems like a neipa.

ZeeLander pours a copper color, with a small little lacing head. Mild aroma, hints of pine hops. Flavor is mild, nice pine notes, with hints of earth, and bright malts, pretty balanced. Good body and feel. Overall, a very drinkable IPA, piney, yet very balanced and bright.

Look-pours golden yellow with light color at top and bottom of glass, barely any head at all
Smell-lovely notes of hops and citrus
Taste-smells and tastes similar, great hop and citrus flavors! Medium bite at first and then clears up and doesn’t linger on being bitter
Feel-refreshing start to finish, great yummy IPA from TB

Pours a bright yellow color with a quick, fizzy white head leaving slippery lacing.

The smell is a nice combination of strong citrus, floral, and a little malt. There is a lingering, dry finish that's bitter.

The taste follows with citrus, grape, and lots of floral. Very earthy.

The mouthfeel is medium body, low carbonation, with a quick, dry finish.

Overall a nice beer, very earthy and floral.

This is a beer that intends to showcase the distinnct aromas of the Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand. Indeed the beer has a nice citrusy and grassy aroma and taste to it, supported by some solid and tasty malts. Medium mouthfeel.

Pours a super hazy/ cloudy light mango-color. 1 finger of fluffy head with amazing retention and lacing.

Aroma is bright with floral hops and light citrus notes. A little bit of dankness on the backside.

Taste is creamy in mouthfeel with a slightly prickly carbonation bite. More herbal hops, tons of orange and orange peel, and a mildly bitter lingering finish. Tropical fruits are present but the herbaceous bitter finish does overshadow the character a bit.

Overall, a pleasant beer. Great flavor development for a lighter abv beer. Another winner from TG. I see this pairing well with BBQ pork ribs, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. It gets a 89.5/100.

650ml bottle, freshly packaged, purchased at the brewery, poured into a Toppling Goliath teku glass. Enjoyed on 1.20.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a hazy and cloudy orange color, golden hues with a big, foamy white head, great retention and lace. The aroma is pleasant, very floral, a bit herbal and minty, soft citrus, tropical fruit and bitterness from the pale grain. The flavors are good, light pitted stone fruits, peachy, quite floral and grassy with some dankness, light pine, citrus peel bitterness with some stale pale grain. The mouthfeel is nice, medium body with mild carbonation, smooth and creamy with a very dry finish.

Verdict: A decent pale ale from Toppling Goliath. A bit muted flavorwise, very delicate that doesn't mesh well with how bitter this beer gets as it warms. It needs a touch more oomph from the hops, but it's certainly enjoyable and sessionable.

This was the best beer at Omaha beer fest. Great hop profile.

Edit: full review now that I’ve had a bottle in a controlled environment. This beer is merely a Nelson Sauvin hop delivery vehicle, and that’s pretty awesome. Appearance is hazy light gold. Aroma is overt grassy, pine and citrus. Taste is intense citrus, grass, grape, and a pleasant touch of dank. Not over the top. Malt is easy going, taking an appropriate back seat to the hop load. It’s not too bitter, just great taste and aroma. This is a really good full flavored pale ale.

Earthy, spicy, citrusy. Definitely brings something different to the table; they manage to coax out a unique flavor profile from the Nelson hop. Pours an opaque orange-ish hue that's becoming a hallmark of the brewery. Pungent and earthy aroma of tropical fruit, fauna and freshly dig earth. Taste is citrus, nut, pith and spruce. There's a snippy peppery spice to the taste that's unexpected but not unwelcomed. Finishes with a crisp pop and a good amount of bitterness.

I'm becoming an IPA guy and this stuff is great!
Earthy, nutty, dankness, grapefruit, pineapple (rind) mango
Cloudy & hazy, like an unfiltered wheat beer. even more so, great mouthfeel and texture!
Superb beer!

Refreshing, bright, mild citrus aroma. Very turbid (as is typical for TG) with a dull burnt-orange color (as is also typical for TG). Mouth feel is substantial for the style. Taste starts with the citrus, but transitions to be dominated by bitterness in the middle, and lingering into the aftertaste. Good malt presence to balance the hops, but definitely it is the flavor of the hops and the bittering that is the star of this beer. An enjoyable, if bitter, IPA. Well done.

Pours a turbid amber with 2+ finger of cream colored head. Never clears, great lacing & head retention

S: Passion fruit, pineapple,

T: Follows the nose, some onion & pine as well, some woodyness & grapefruit up front. Grapefruit, bready dryness, mango once warm. Finishes grapefruitty, with a little mango & pomelo, plus woodyness & just a kiss of breadyness & passion fruit

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, good balance

Pretty tasty, much to like, was hoping for a little more something, something from this though...

Cloudy juice like yellow gold with thick fluffy head and lacing. Well balanced malty bitter citrusy hop smell. Hops are on the forefront of the taste, but it's not a hop bomb. Crisply bitter and tasty. Great beer, better than I hoped.

One of the more overlooked hoppy TG beers, most shoot for the stars and hype up sue and its variants but I'd say this is TG's second best hoppy beer, behind double citra sue. Delicious citrusy hop notes but not overwhelming, does so much for so little ABV.

22 oz bottle was poured into a nonic glass.

Appearance: It is a slightly hazy orange yellow color with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the. A two finger billowy head was poured that reduced to a thin puffy layer. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Citrus, grapefruit, sauvignon grapes, earthy, pungent, grassy, caramel, and toasted malts.

Taste: The hop flavor definitely pulls more through on the palate. Nice malt bill, lasting hop flavor, and light tingly bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, refreshing, rolling hop flavor, crushable, and light light bitterness.

Overall: For a single hop Nelson Sauvin IPA, I am a big fan. Nice job Toppling Goliath. Looking forward to more of this in the future

Was very lucky to have a chance to try this beer....i have a great neighbor who has a colleague whom has family near TG. This beer poured an unfiltered copperish with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had tangerine like notes. The taste was evenly balanced and very easy to drink. It reminded me of the Tazmanian IPA from Schlafy. The Mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's an excellent beer!

Bomber bottle poured into a snifter.
L: Hazy, light copper with a surprisingly large head (1.5 fingernails) that was fluffy/thin but stayed around a long while.
S: Pineapple, Grapefruit, pine.
T: Bitterness that you can tell is there but is also well muted. This is a little more earthy than a Massachusetts juice bomb - the taste reminded me a lot of Alchemist's Focal Banger. Maybe even more dank than FB. Very enjoyable.
F: Medium. Fluffy. Definitely not thin, but not chewy by any means. Slight amount of carbonation, but less than I thought there'd be given how long the head stayed around.
O: Great beer. Like I said, the closes resemblense I've had is Focal Banger - which is a good thing. Wish I bought more than 1!

Opaque yellow-orange with a large fluffy white head leaving tons of spongey lace and a permanent fluffy blanket.

Smell is very crackery and peppery, with lemon, pineapple, peach and slightly dank cannabis.

Taste is bitter pine and grapefruit, with vanilla cream, pineapple, peach, and peppery cracker.

ZeeLander is pretty bitter, but tries to be balanced with fruitiness and a very dry finish.

Received from @Josholson666 in NBS BIF #4 – Thanks man!
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma - Grapefruit
Head large (Maximum 4.5 cm, semi-aggressive pour), off white, frothy, diminishing to an irregular two to four mm ring and a heaped rocky island
Lacing – excellent – multiple rings of tiny to small bubbles which connect by short thin stalactites
Body – very cloudy, light yellow, almost glowing
Flavor – grapefruit, grapefruit, grapefruit! One of the best grapefruit IPAs I’ve ever had! No malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl, just hops, hops, hops!
Palate – medium, slightly oily, lively carbonation.

Appearance 4.5, Aroma 5, Flavor 4.5, Palate 4.5, Overall 5.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a snifter... Twice.

A: Pours a slightly hazy, darkish orange-copper color. Two-inch, white, foamy head which diminishes at a slow rate. Light, thin, white lacing that sticks around throughout.

S: Mostly fruity aromas of pineapple, mango, and peach along with some citrus elements of grapefruit and orange. A very slight piney hoppiness comes through as well, but fruity aromas are definitely the main act.

T: Taste is almost exactly the same as the aromas. This is definitely a juicy IPA first and foremost. Fruit and citrus elements including notes of pineapple, tropical fruits, grapefruit, and orange are present up front, which are followed by a nice mild hoppy bitterness that lingers after each sip goes down. Bitterness nicely combats the overall sweetness of the brew.

F: Light-medium bodied, smooth, with great carbonation. Slightly dry at the end.

O: Awesome single-hop IPA. So glad I was able to try this for the first time. It reminds me somewhat of Scorpius Morchella, which I was able to try prior to this and loved. Would definitely go for this one again and it definitely ranks among the best of TG single-hop IPAs IMO.
