Set sail with 1492! This unique single-hop IPA is brewed with all Columbus hops. Expect a bold, dank body, strong earthy aroma and a dry herbal bitterness that pack a mighty punch in the finish.

650ml bottle, purchased at Toppling Goliath so assumed fresh, poured into a Toppling Goliath Gold Assassin Teku Glass. Enjoyed on 1.22.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a bright copper color with orange hues, hazy complexion with a foamy white head, two fingers tall with great retention and nice swatches of soapy lace. The aroma is extremely piney, very green, herbal and earthy, tons of hops oozing from this, bitter citrus peel, light wildflower with strong and sweet amber malt. The nose is quite aggressive, really showcasing how bitter and intense those Columbus hops can be. The flavors are no different, very piney, very sappy, resinous with light spice, very bitter, strong amber malt, light cereal grain. The mouthfeel is decent, thicker heavy medium body, almost syrupy texture with a dry and crisp finish.
Verdict: A very intense bitter experience. The Columbus hops are in full force and really dominate this beer and there isn't much respite from the earthy, green bitter flavors. While a demonstration in what Columbus is capable of, I'm not sure I want more.

Pours a hazed amber with 2+ fingers pf fluffy ivory head. Stellar lacing & head retention
S: Faint orange peel,
T: Pomelo, dryness, a little grainyness & breadyness up front. Pomelo, a little mango & tangerine, plus dryness as this warms. Finishes with pomelo & a little grapefruit
MF Medium body, slightly over carbonated, pretty good balance
Drinks easy, but expected more

Pours a copper / burnt orange with layers of white head that cling and stick after each sip. Robust in your face citrus and juicy hop flavors. Piney, dank, an clean and refreshing on the palate.

Poured from a bomber, so presumably a Decorah brewed 1492
Look: 1492 pours a nice hazy golden, with a fluffy white head appearing up top, but it is maybe half a fingers width. Carbonation is ample, and bubbles periodically flow towards the top.
Smell: a lemon, citrus dominated nose starts the aroma off, and after a swirl I get some nice tangerine/orange notes.
Taste: the lemon and orange meld together at the start of this beer, some melon pops up, and mid palette dankness comes in hard. The finish is almost all earthy dank flavors and some pepper. About the best I've seen Columbus hops utilized.
Feel: the mouthfeel is medium full, slightly creamy, with some drying and bitterness in the finish. The beer still is fairly soft compared to the majority of IPA.
Overall: I've had the Brew Pub version of 1492, and, while I like the contracted version, the Decorah brewed version adds complexity in taste, a hazier look, and a bit softer of a mouthfeel. If you see the bomber form of 1492, grab it, and prepare yourself for a treat.
