Pours golden with some foamy head. Smell is hoppy. Taste is strong, and hoppy and bitter. Feel is normally bodied for an IPA. Pretty much a standard IPA.

Pours a light and very hazy copper with lots of particulate. Fairly aggressive pour resulted in a three finger head.

Smells of orange and pine with just a hint of pineapple and melon.

Better tasting than it smells. Hits hard with orange, tangerine, and apricot with a nice bitterness. The sweetness lingers on afterwards with a bit of a grassy aftertaste and finishes pretty dryly.

Overall, I like it! Will drink it again.

Murky golden appearance, with a small head.

Definitely has a fall-esque flavor, with some fairly strong earthly flavors, combined with various autumn spices. Carbonation is refreshing, and bitterness is at a good level. If you go into it expecting brilliance from this Toppling Goliath brew, then you'll probably be disappointing. Yet, without the expectations from the reputation of their brilliant upper-end program, this is still a most enjoyable beer.

Pours a murky straw with three fingers of frothy head that lingers but becomes tacky .
Smells very subtle of pine and some unnameable spice. Has a light taste ... nothing noteworthy here :\
but not unpleasant at that so.... I cant be unfair and say its a bad brew... just not wowed but it. The feel is rather silky and pleasant. Overall ...... I would revisit in summer as i think this is a sessionable IPA but not one that you get for its complexities. Good if at a cheaper price for a ball game, yard work ect. Not what i'm looking for to end an evening.

from a single into a spieglau ipa glass
a: huge 3 finger head with outstanding retention and lacing, sitting on an clear apricot body
s: earthy and melony juiciness, some pine, a little slightly dull spiciness
t: like the nose, but a little more satisfying...I get a lot of melon.

Yes, I'll agree it dank. The hops almost taste burnt with big, bright apricot over an easy body. It's a deep juicy flavor but still drinkable. Tasty beer.

Very few do IPA's like TG does and this single hop Columbus is a dandy if you like this hop. Big pine impression on the aroma and taste....some ganja....some tobbacco leaf.......black tea....oily hop flavor to this....hops dominate but never borders on too one dimensional with a light caramel malt backing.

If you are looking for a citrus laden IPA this is not it. If you want something floral, piney, and a bit grungy this is it. Some mild bitterness.....body is medium.....perfect carbonation...oak colored...light head...nice lacing on glass....

12oz bottle, date stamped 08 OCT 2015
A - frothy off-white head settles atop an amber colored IPA
S - juicy burst of grapefruity citrus with caramel and grain
T - juicy grapefruit and piny mango, a bit earthy and herbal, faint passion fruit in the background, caramel malt, toasted grain
M - thinner side of medium for body, resinous, quite refreshing & easy to drink
O - very solid American IPA with plenty of juiciness, but no wow factor for me. However, they have excellently showcased the Columbus hop with this single-hopped IPA. I don't think I'd get it again even though I'm very happy to have found it.

Received this as an extra through a trade and made the mistake of trying it after Pompeii.
Pour - brownish, orange. whatever color that is, caramel? Thin head, minimal lacing
Smell - piney, dank, bitter hoppy
Taste - I see what they mean by bold. Literally punches you in the mouth
Overall - Not a bad brew.Wouldn't search all over for it, but if you happen by it definitely try it out

Bottled in mid August and drank early October so about a month and a half old.
Look: the beer is a nice orange color, a little darker actual orange. The beer is unfiltered and has specks floating throughout it. A vigorous pour gave way to a nice head

Smell: fantastic. The smell is primarily sweet with lemon being what I notice the most

Taste: I taste a strong bitterness initially, followed by a short burst of sweet fruit then more bitterness. It's a nice tasting beer

Feel: light to medium body with a dry finish.

Overall: a solid beer. I'd buy more

Brought to me by friends with family in Iowa. Lucky me. Dated 8/27/15. Poured into an IPA glass displaying a hazy copper, 1-finger head and nice lacing. Smells of Columbus hops, more spicy than citrus, and fades away rather quickly. Taste is bright bitterness, again more spice & pine than citrus. Mouthfeel is pleasant, smooth & invigorating.
I definitely appreciate a single hop beer, and this one does Columbus hops to perfection.

Date on the bottle of 8/27/15.

Appearance: Medium caramel color and hazy with hop/yeast particulates. Thin off-white head.

Aroma: Some muted citrus and spicy notes from the columbus hops. Bit of biscuit.

Taste: Solid earthy bitterness up front that is matched by a semi-sweet caramel breadyness. Some pungent notes of black liquorish, as well as citrus, and herbs come through in the hop character. Bitterness rises in the finish and cascades over the palate in the aftertaste. About the right depth of flavor that I'd expect for 6% ABV, but also in pale ale territory based on the bready flavors from the malt.

Mouthfeel: Just below medium in body, which is a bit thinner than expected but it's never watery. About average carbonation for the style and drinkability that is only hindered by the somewhat strong bitterness.

Final Thoughts: I wish I was getting some of the danker flavors that columbus can provide, but those subtleties may have been more prevalent at bottling. All in all, a good beer that delivers what is described on the label. Would I drink it again? Not before exploring the rest of TG's line-up.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Dated Aug 27th 2015.

A real great looker for an IPA. Near perfect clarity, with streams of classic fine carbonation coming up. Head manages three creamy and thick full growth off the pour, clumping with a whipped up topping. The bubbles in the head are practically microscopic and peppered with just a few swiss cheese ones. Clumpy, big, a body color that is somewhere between polished copper bronze and orange, very unique looking. Stellar appearance.

Wonderful soft hop aroma. Hints of sweet tea juice, big florality as well, with a sweet controlled perfume note. Tea like sweet softness all over this that is so inviting. Small notes of malt sweetness poke out, I could nose this all day long.

Palate really brings the goods, with a bit of unexpected mouthfeel. Juicy qualities take a much more toned down route, as the body goes to much lighter and almost spritzy wet feeling. Still the flavors absolutely roll and pop on the palate. Juiced pekoe tea and orange, soft light caramel with sweet mint and herbs in the mid palate. Real big bite on the finish and swallow, of very light astringent hop quality.

Real great winner in the IPA book for these guys.

As I've come to expect from TG brews, this one drinks very smooth and I was not surprised to see the IBU at 45. Nice display of Columbus hops that lend a tasty flavor.

Bottled on 8/27/15, reviewed on 9/12/15
A: 1/2 finger of off white head with fair retention. Greenish-gold colored liquid with chunks. I love the label art. Chunks are the only negative.
S: Delicate tropical fruit. Slight watermelon Jolly Rancher (simcoe?). Some pine below all the fruit. A bit of clean malty bread underlying it grows with warming.
T: Pine forward with grapefruity bitterness. Orange, citrus. Not boozy, but definitely assertive warmth from the alcohol.
M: Good bitterness throughout that finishes pithy. Prickly and warm.
O: A good, old-fashioned (c. 2005) West Coast IPA. Best while cold. Possibly too much heat in the mouthfeel for such a low ABV.

1492 pours a hazy copper color, with lots of floating sediment and a small lacing head. There is a bold hoppy aroma. The taste is very bold, big hop flavors, very bitter aftertaste. Good body good flavors. Overall its a very bitter and hoppy IPA.

Pours a hazy, even chunky orange with a white head that leaves behind plenty of lace.
Aroma is citrus and floral with a hint of toffee.
Grapefruit and piney resin hit my tongue first followed by a middle hit of sweet orange juice and a crisp, bitter, pithy finish. A nice underlying maltiness.
Mouthfeel is medium and a touch sticky.
Overall, not a pretty beer but I thought it was quite tasty.

This beer pours a hazy light amber with a powerful head. The aroma leads with a sticky, pine resin scent, with background notes of orange peel and dank. The flavor leads with a good but somewhat flat resiny flavor, as well as other herbaceous notes, almost like rosemary. There is a sweetness here, but well balanced by bitterness. The mouthfeel is thick, but not syrupy. Overall this was a very nice beer, but it became a bit tiresome as it went on. Still, I do quite like it.

Not quite up to the standard I expected from Toppling Goliath. This is a pretty pedestrian IPA, with no real flaws but nothing spectacular either. It's a nice middle of the week quaffer though.

Pours a hazy dark gold to light amber color, with a one finger white head. The aroma is earthy, herbal, and floral.

Tastes much like it smells. Also tastes like citrus peeling. Not much malt sweetness for balance.

Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes dry, and biter. Not a bad beer, but I don't know that I would seek it out again. Glad i was able to pick up a single bottle.

Smell is pine, caramel, dankness, and a hint of brown sugar. Taste is predominantly citrus, lemon peel, with a bit of malt sweetness. I was intrigued by a beer that only uses Columbus hops, but was a little underwhelmed with the result.

Pours a slightly hazy amber body, one finger white head, good retention, fair bit of lacing. Solid. Smells of resin, floral notes, pine, mild grainy pale malt sweetness. It's what I expected from a Columbus hopped IPA. Flavour is similarly pine and grainy pale malt; a bit of floral notes. Not that complex or interesting, but it's reasonably well executed. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, very drinkable. Mild-moderate bitterness on the finish. Overall, pretty much a straight forward SMaSH Columbus hopped IPA. It is nicely executed, but Columbus isn't quite my jam. It may be yours, though, so I would recommend trying this if so.

Bottle shared by Travlr. Thanks Gene!

Hazy light orange body with a small white collar. Oranges, hops, alcohol. Tasty, though not as amazing as other Toppling Goliath IPAs I have had the pleasure to enjoy.

This was an extra in a trade and realized that it was 3 months old, so I was a bit worried that it would be pretty crappy. The hops, from what I expected, were not as prevalent, but it wasn't a malt bomb. Spoke to a friend from Iowa and he said that this beer, in his opinion, actually improves with a bit of age. So, there you have it. Not sure what it is fresh...

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Hazy orange body with an ample white head. Smells heavily dank, herbal, dirty and earthy. Stupid columbus hops. Taste is equally dank. Grapefruit. Earthy and bitter. It actually tastes good. Medium body with medium carbonation. So columbus hops just don’t belong in any single hop beer, but this is still pretty good.
