Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Inspiration for our newest Hop Patrol IPA comes from the House of Faun in Pompeii, Italy. At this site, some of the world’s most famous mosaics were preserved under layers of ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In this fashion, Pompeii IPA preserves and showcases the luxurious taste of the Mosaic hop. This single-hop IPA offers a floral aroma and a truly complex “mosaic” of taste: dark citrus and pineapple flavors, with deep earthy undertones and a persistent bitterness in the finish.

Pours from the bottle a hazy medium-gold with a dense and creamy white head.
The aroma is loaded with tropical fruit, citrus, pineapple.
Taste is mixed fruit juice: orange, pineapple, tropical fruit and a finishing citrus rind bitter although even that is juicy.
Perfect balancing sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat sticky.
God, this is good.

This one is rather common around here. It comes in a 22 ounce bottle.

It pours a beautiful clear gold with nice head. The nose follows along with the hops and has a nice citrus boquet.

Taste is a very balance citrus profile with floral notes. How many different IPA's can this brewery make? They all taste good and they are different. Another keeper. If I buy a beer more than once, that means I like it. I have bought this one 6 times or more.

22oz bottle dated 2/24/16 poured into a tulip
A: Yellowish-orange color with a one-finger head
S: Lots of grass and earth along with some orange peel and pepper
T: Largely matches the nose- herbal/earthy up front with a bit of citrus backbone
M:Medium-bodied, crisp, dry
O: A nice IPA, definitely the drier style but well made and a pleasure to drink

Pompeii pours a golden color with a small lacing head. Big hoppy aroma. Taste also is fresh hops, with hints of earth. Good body and feel. Overall top notch ipa.

Thought this offering was better than Sosus. Not degrading Sosus as all TG offerings are other worldly Mouth fee is great, smell is great and it drinks amazingly. I really have no idea where to rate this as all TG IPAs are outstanding

22oz bomber dated 4/8/16 consumed 6/8/16. Slightly hazy pour to 2 shakers produces a straw yellow beverage with a 1 finger head, no lacing. Floral and fruity nose, mango, pineapple. Malt sweetness combines beautifully with the hops giving a well balanced, grapefruit, juicy, a bit dank and bitter. Medium body and carbonation.

Good dark orange pour with a slight head. Very sweet and fruity smell. Taste is bitter with a solid malt upfront with a TEXTBOOK Mosaic finish. Excellent beer and the not even the highest rated from Toppling Goliath, is very impressive.

A citrus bomber poured in a pint glass. This is a fruit bomb to the palate all the way! Pours great w/ a nice metacarpal length amount of head. There are constant intense juicy hoppy flavors in this IPA and I wish I had another bomber to drink w/ a slight bitter aftertaste to round off this wonderful IPA.

Serving: Bomber into a snifter
Served: 29 May 2016

Thanks to @moysauce for the bottle.

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy amber color with about a 2 finger head that sticks around for some time. The beer itself looks great, but let's talk about this bottle art. Is there better bottle art than this? No.

Smell: Bright, fruity hop notes driven by citrus and tropical fruit esters. Little to no malt sweetness evident in the nose due to the massive hop bouquet.

Taste: Shockingly close to a New England IPA (e.g. Trillium) - definitely what I would call a "juice bomb", in the sense that the hop flavors were largely citrus and tropical fruit. Notes of grapefruit, apricot, passion fruit, pineapple, and pomegranate. A pinch of musk. Not super bitter at 60 IBUs even with the relatively light malt backbone, though it does finish semi-dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium to medium-light body with high, soft carbonation. Refreshing.

Overall: An incredible beer, especially at 5.5%. I'm not sure there is a better low ABV IPA out there.

Poured from bomber into an IPA glass. Nice light golden-amber color with ample carbonation and well-retained finger of head. Aroma is fantastic, that's the mosaic talking...it's mango, it's juicy, it's floral, there's citrus and stonefruit. The taste is all of those things, but with a little caramel malt balance, maybe just a touch more than I'd care for. But still terrific. Overall, it may not quite be on the level of Sosus, but it's much easier to get around here, and it really isn't far off at all.

From a bomber, a month old, into a nonic, pours a light clear pineapple orange, nose is serious business...to me, not as earthy as some other mosaic-focused beers, though it is still there right from the start and it is woodsy and there's also a little mint, lots of bright tropical fruit, bright flowery sweetness and pale malt. Taste follows nose, not quite as bright and not loads of layers, but still delicious...lingering dank blueberry notes. Bitterness is middling, and feel is fairly smooth, which is fun with the flavor explosion. Body is light, middle to high carb, fairly clean. Doesn't compare to their best, but this is still a great beer.

L:Wow. What a beautiful beer. Deep golden orange. Nice 1-1.5 finger of head. Pretty decent lacing as well. Really nothing I would fix, I just have a hard time giving anything a 5 in case I find something better haha.

S:The aroma is ripe, juicy mango with some nice floral bouquet supporting it. This is 6 weeks old and I would die to get a fresh aroma.

T: Bright, ripe mango and berries on the palate. Doesn't really have much of a bitter profile at all. Who doesn't love mosaic hops?! Again, 6 weeks old but tastes so freaking ripe and delicious. Can't imagine how great it would taste 5 weeks ago!

F: Very pleasant coating. Thin, not overbearing, but begs you to keep sipping.

Overall, this is an unbelievable, world-class brew. If this were available year round and had decent distribution this would be my go-to beer. Wow. Nothing short of excellent.

Draft: Poured a bright orangey color ale with a nice foamy head. Aroma of juicy hops notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Taste consist of intense flavours of juicy hops notes of citrus and tropical fruit with some residual sugar notes and almost no bitterness. Body is about average for style with great carbonation. This one is quite the treat and shows that he brewer was really able to extract as much as possible from the Mosaic hops.

Looks like a beer. Smell is mango, pineapple, slight hoppy. Taste is very good. Citrusy on first taste, mildly hoppy with a slightly bitter aftertaste that finishes very clean. Feel is crisp. Solid brew from TG, they never disappoint.

Pours gold with an orange tinge. Large off white head is rather frothy. Good retention with nice sticky lacing. Lacing is quite heavy at first but recedes to a more moderate(but long lasting) level fairly quick.

Aroma is tropical and floral hops. Mango, lavender, and jasmine. Caramel malt.

Taste starts with mango and pineapple. Lemon, orange rind, and just a hint of the floral notes from the aroma. Caramel malt, a bit doughy. Very mild earthy dankness at the end.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Mild bitterness. Lingering tropical hops. Just a touch of creaminess.

Excellent IPA. Love the profile of Mosaic and it really shines in this beer.

Gold in color with a solid inch of densely packed off white head. Moderate lacing. Massive floral hop aroma greets my nose. I taste plenty of earthy mosaic hops and plenty of light malt. The mouth is lightly sticky and chewy.

Has a pleasant hazy golden-orange appearance with good carbonation. Classic mosaic aromas of grapefruit and pineapple along with an herbal dankness. The tastes follow with a smooth yet pronounced bitterness. Has a medium bodied mouthfeel with a lingering bitterness. Overall another outstanding IPA from TG.

Crystal clear gold with a massive, off-white foam head. A nice thin blanket persists on top, with a ton of spongy lacing, but if you pour the whole bottle into your glass, there are a ton of little floaties that settle into a chunky yeast layer.

Powerful aromas of tropical hops--pineapple, peach, and something a bit more exotic I can't quite put my finger on. Some toffee malt comes in after. Then, as it warms, some cedar and pine develop.

In addition to the tropical notes, some earthy, herbal and floral flavors kick in on the tongue. Toffee and biscuit support the beer keeping the bitterness low.

Crisp and slightly bitter.

What an aroma on this beer! It filled the room with a soft citrus/tangerine cloud. Taste was dank & tropical...my favorite combo. An absolute terrific pale ale from TG.

Pours slightly hazy and golden orange I. Color with a frothy white head that retains nicely. Aromas of tropical mangos, pibeapple, stone fruit and some hints of dank hops and caramel malt. Loads of hoppy oils resin and flavor I the taste with big notes of mango, a herbal piney bitterness, and plenty of caramel malt in the finish. Mouthfeel is creamy smooth and the hop oils and resin leave the mouth watering.

Pours a cloudy orange with some micro particles hanging in suspension. Dripping lace down the sides of the glass. Creamy head of foam initially, fades into a thin broken web on the surface.

Aroma is great, dry and fruity, white peach, slight passionfruit.

Taste is lightly peachy, leafy green with a lingering earthy hop bitterness in the aftertaste.
Feel is well balanced with a slight heft, light carb lends to a supple feel.

Now this is a Mosaic IPA, intoxicating at all levels. Aroma, visual, taste, feel, etc.
Extremely drinkable and well crafted, others should be taking notes.

A very solid IPA, seemingly TG's mosaic answer to PsuedoSue. Nice flavor and feel for a 5.5% beer, and they've done an excellent job balancing out the bitterness of the beer. I think I like Lizard King by PW a little better, but either way, a great beer; not surprising given that I have yet to run into a TG beer that isn't above-average.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottleneck says 02/24/16.

A- Pours a hazy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Sharp, dank, grassy blast of hops. Also piney and resinous.

T- Taste is more modest than you would suspect given the intense aroma. The bitterness and hop flavor are there but both quite restrained and balanced. Notes of peach, mango and pineapple.

M- Somewhat sharp and very bright from the hops with medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- A hop explosion that's so easy to drink due to its low ABV and balance. Dynamite.
