Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Inspiration for our newest Hop Patrol IPA comes from the House of Faun in Pompeii, Italy. At this site, some of the world’s most famous mosaics were preserved under layers of ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In this fashion, Pompeii IPA preserves and showcases the luxurious taste of the Mosaic hop. This single-hop IPA offers a floral aroma and a truly complex “mosaic” of taste: dark citrus and pineapple flavors, with deep earthy undertones and a persistent bitterness in the finish.

Finally getting around to sitting down to review this one as well. One of my favorites from TG. Canned 4/17/18.

A hazy, murky, dark orange color with a towering head of 2 fingers, creamy and leaving tons of lace on the glass.

Tons of zesty, crispy fruits on the nose. Pineapple, mango, tangerine, navel orange, lemon.

Wow. Just, wow.. Mango - tons of mango, matched with very tight, crisp biscuit malt, followed by zesty pineapple, tangerine, veiny red grapefruit, navel orange, lemon, and lingering lemon and hop resins.

Feel is crisp and sharp - just massively - like a thousand sharp pins attacking your tongue. This lays a nice carpet for the flavors to dance on. The finish is lingering prickliness and hop oils.

Overall, Pompeii is no slouch. I really think people should give beers like Golden Nugget and Pompeii a hard look over the (well-deservedly) sought after Pseudo Sue. Sue isn't a slouch either, but these beers need more recognition. On second thought, scratch that - leave them all for me!

Look: cloudy honey colored, 4F head.

Aroma: not strong, citrus, sweet, earthy with warming.

Taste: mostly citrus, hints of tropical fruit.

MF: thin, not medium as stated on can.

Finish: Hoppy, spicy.

Overall: good IPA. The aroma is weak. Mostly citrus, and not pineapple or mango as indicated on the can. No canning date or ABV on the can, only on the carton. Worth checking out.

Had this a couple weeks ago. A very solid and tasty option to buy from a local store.

Very hazy lighter straw gold color.
Aroma is fantastic with mango and pineapple.
Taste is all tropical hoppiness. Zero malt. Finishes clean without lingering astringency.
Lighter feel, moderate carbonation.
Tasty IPA in the tropical fruit style that I really enjoyed.

From a 16 oz can dated 4/3/18.

Pours to a hazy, straw appearance with a nice two finger head that leaves spotty lacing. Smells very tropical, somewhat dank and almost creamy all at the same time. Unreal nose. Taste is right up there with the smell - tropical, hoppy goodness with pineapple and mango followed by a shot of piney earth. Well crafted stuff. Feel is what you'd expect for an IPA with moderate creaminess and adequate carb. This is an awesome IPA that disappears from shelves within a day or two upon arriving in MKE. Incredible example of what Mosaic can achieve in the right hands.

My first TG beer. It's really good. Here goes:

A: Outstanding. Pours a hazy but beautiful yellow-orange with lots of floating hop sediments. What really stands out about this beer, though, is the MASSIVE head that LINGERS long after the beer's poured. The head remained for over five minutes without dissipating. It also left a ton of lacing. Again, great!

S: Exquisite. Lots of succulent grapefruit with other tropical flavors, including lemon and oranges. Also very piney and floral. Between the floral, grapefruit, and tropical flavors, it's all here.

T: Again, excellent. Lots of grapefruit, pine, and lemon. LOTS of grapefruit.

F: Great.

O: Great beer. Flavors are an interspersion of grapefruit, pine, tropical fruit, and flowers.

A- A tallboy can pours a slightly chalky golden orange brew into my glass. Rising quickly from the top of the beer like a volcano erupting, a two finger cap forms with a thick and creamy consistency and great retention. Massive sheets and webs of lace coat the glass.

S- Fruity and floral hops with a focus on citrus notes and a backdrop of the tropical, sweeter fruits. Tangerines and mango lead into orange, grapefruit, floral, dank and pine hints. A bit muddled with a hint of sweet grains.

T- The citrus opens up even more a bit here with the grapefruit and sweet oranges in the forefront. Both zesty and fruity citrus hop notes with mango, pineapple, floral, pine and tangerine hop character in the backdrop. Rather sweet and even a bit towards the caramel side of things giving that candied orange effect.

MF- Medium thickness with a very creamy and silky smooth texture. Low to medium level of the bubbles and a slightly bitter finish.

Just not as clean and standout as far as hop flavors go as the best of them nowadays. Candied citrus, a touch of mango and floral hops with slightly sweet grains beneath.

Pours a hazy chalky orange with a two finger head. Smells of pineapple, sherbet and fruit cocktail. Taste is crisp, refreshing. Bittering hops and drying at the end. Well balanced. There's clear influence from both east and west coast IPA's in this beer. Dry hoppy bite for a finish. This is a little on the thin/watery side but well made and perfectly fine for a single IPA. Nice one by TG.
