Murky burnished orange with piles of silky snow white head that doesn't hold. Yeasty clouds.
Intoxicating pure resiny hop flower nose. More funk and herb than citrus.
Fresh apricot and cream cracker up front then big sticky tangelo jam hops. Skunky comeback and a prickly leave.
Medium, chewy and oily.

Hop bomb! Malts are pretty much absent. Never got a hop hit like this before from anything from England. Need to learn more about Mt Hood!

500ml bottle, purchased at the brewery on 27 May 2011, poured into a wine glass.

A: A fairly hard pour yields lear light amber body supporting an inch of frothy white foam; ok retention and some light, spotty lace. Nice.

S: Delicate yet powerful, with hops and malts working well together. The hops provide grapefruit, tropical fruit, and sweetly resinous pine; the malt counters with caramel, toffee, hazelnuts, and some delightful cinnamon spice. I'm really blown away by how complex and phenomenally enjoyable this is. Wow.

T: Sweet malts start things off with caramel and coffee cake, followed by some candied citrus hoppiness. A little less hoppy than nose, but still closed out with solid bitterness. Very tasty, but a bit sweeter than I'd like.

M: Smooth, soft, and fairly light-bodied. Moderate, super-fine carbonation. Great work with the bottle conditioning.

O: Yet another stunningly good beer from The Kernel. This is probably my favorite of the 4 or so different Pale Ale varieties I've tried, and I'm rather shocked at how pleasantly fruity the Mt. Hood hops are. If it weren't for a bit too much candied sweetness in the flavor this would be a solid A+ beer for its style. Amazing beer, amazing brewery.

Cheers!
