Halfpint on-tap at the Euston Tap, as a follow-up to all the real ales on display at the London Drinker festival just down the road.

A: Clear, bright amber body under a super-fine white head. Great retention and lacing. Excellent.

S: Fresh, deep, complex fruity hops. Citrus, tropical fruit, and resinous pine all together. What a great hop!

T: Follows the nose - herbal, citrusy, and tropical all together. Smooth and delicious, with just enough malt to balance the bitterness and make a for a soft, clean finish. Wonderful.

M: Smooth, creamy medium body. Great, and not at all too fizzy after so many cask pours.

O: I've still yet to have a non-stellar beer from the Kernel, and since I've always been amazed by Mosaic hops I expected nothing but the best from this beer; it did not disappoint.

Picked this up at a great little beer store in Arlon, Belgium, Miorge Mihoublon. Bottled March 18th, 2014. Cloudy yellow-amber pour with a one finger off-white foamy head with nice retention and lacing. The nose is huge with fresh resiny citrus hops along with hints of pine, caramel, and grapefruit. The taste is juicy and resiny with tons of fresh citrusy hops along with hints of pine, caramel, mango, lemon, tangerine, and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is subtly creamy with light carbonation, perfect balance, and a tangy, bittersweet finish. Overall, yet another top notch offering from The Kernel. Rich and flavorful and so bold for a Pale Ale.

Purchased at the Kernel Brewery in London, bottle-conditioned in a 500ml brown bottle, bottled on 04/02/13, BB 04/06/13, served lightly chilled in Tripel Karmeliet long-stemmed tulip sniffer.

A: pours a murky, dark amber colour with a relatively low level of carbonation and a well-lasting off-white creamy head. Looking handsome for a non-filtered and non-pasteurised bottled beer.
S: on top of the juicy sweet pale malts comes intensely exotic fruity hops and fruit esters, the nose is packed of passion-fruit, guava, ripe white-flesh grapefruit, and a salty-sweet edge endowed by the yeast sediments. Overall, this pale ale is overwhelmingly hoppy, more like a modern take on the APA style but with more aromatic hops and a lesser malt body.
T: very smooth, nearly flat-ish actually, the flavour is mainly yeasty-bitter on a thin platform of very mild pale malts, and underlined by tangy citrus peel- and bitter guava-like aromatic hoppiness; the aftertaste prolongs the hop impact, in the form of a deepening wave of dried leafy hop bitterness, so bitter and tannic-chewy, that the dried herbal and piney edge of it seems to linger at the back of the palate forever. Also lingers is the slightly stinky edge of the yeastiness, which accompanies the overall hop profile pleasantly well.
M&O: softly carbonated, rather clean, despite the yeastiness in the beer, the palate is at the same time constantly chewy due to the level of hop bitterness at presence. All in all, this is a medium-bodied, exotic fruity and thirst-quenching hoppy pale ale that is deliciously bitter in this bottle-conditioned form, and should also be fantastic to be enjoyed on tap at the brewery!

From 10/07/15 notes. On tap at Euston Tap in London.

Pours a hazy bright orange color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident. Citrus hops, grapefruit, pine hops, fruity malts. Medium body and low to moderate carbonation.

Overall really good....Kernel is definitely the best brewery overall I encountered in the UK.

Tasted On: 08-14-2014
Freshness: Bottled on 07-15-2014
Packaging: 500ml brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Mug
Purchased: Single from the brewery

Picked this up on a trip to London after I enjoyed a beer on draft at The Kernel.

A: Hazy, golden-colored beer with a frothy white head. Lacing and head retention are both good.

S: Wow, big and sharp aromas of tropical fruits from the hops really impress. Pineapple and grapefruit certainly come to mind, but it's really an explosion of different hop smells. A delightful smelling beer.

T: The taste follows the aromas and features big hoppy tropical and citrus fruit bitterness. There's a touch of malts evident as well, but this is a beer that clearly showcases the Mosaic hops.

M: Body is medium with lots of carbonation in the feel as well. It finishes dry and quite bitter, with lingering grapefruit notes.

O: Excellent hoppy pale ale; probably the most hop-forward brew I had from England and a real delight.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2014. ABV is stated as 5.5%. Acquired a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The clue is in the name - it's a pale ale hopped with Mosaic.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy golden-amber hue with plentiful fine sediment and good carbonation. Yields a massive head of creamy white foam with excellent retention; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of fruity hops with hints of lime, orange peel, citrus, white grape, tropical fruit, grass/hay, earthy yeast and subtle malt. Delightfully hoppy.

Tastes of intensely fruity aromatic hops with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, white grape, mild tropical fruit, grass/hay, earthy yeast, delicate malt and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a strident hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with effervescent carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, leafy bitterness and earthy yeast.

Oh yes - another fantastic offering from Kernel. Looks good (if rather hazy), and the aroma and flavour are sublime. Lots of citrus and general fruitiness, along with a touch of yeast. Body is OK. Delicious; goes down a treat. Well worth sampling if you have the chance.

Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (500ml, £3.20):
Cloudy amber colour with a thin, bubbly white head on top that settles as more of a soapy lacing. Some sediment too.

Sweet malt aroma with some pine and citrus hops coming through as well. There is some grapefruit and a fresh, light tropical aroma following this.

Light, sweet malts with perhaps a touch of caramel. There is a good tropical fruit taste, some citrus hops with plenty of pine and grapefruit that give it an almost American IPA taste that is quite fresh and lively.

Bitter to begin with some strong hops and pine bitterness along with a sweetness from the malts and plenty of fruitiness.

A good pale ale that went down quite well but probably wasn't as enjoyable as some of the breweries other offerings.

On-tap. Tumbler glass. Enjoyed on mar´13. Pours brass in color showing cloudy appearance. White froth & rocky crown. Lasting spots on sides. Tropical fruit - mango & apricot- & subtle resiny aromas. Creamy & malty upfront is just an illusion since sharp resiny & herbal hoppiness flow all over. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Texture is oily & dense.Dry bitter finish. Grapefruit & resins on the aftertaste. Refreshing & easy drinkable.

On tap at the brewery during Zwanze Day festivities. Pours slightly hazy pale gold with a smallish head that has good retention and leaves some lace. Nose the first time I really do get blueberry from a mosaic beer. Also some fruity citrus. Nice. Taste is not huge, but about the same with a touch of mango thrown in. At 5.1%, this beer really hits a lot of sweet spots and is another very good Kernel production.

330ml bottle conditioned.
L: Hazy, pale amber with a thick, fluffy head.
S: Delicate aroma of mango and seville orange.
T: Follows the nose but flavour is richer and more pronounced. Moderately bitter.
F: Smooth, foaming mouthfeel with a dry, bitter, tongue-tingling finish.
O: These single hop brews from Kernel are fab. Not over complex. Provide great insight to the depth offered by a hop like Mosaic. Good stuff for anyone interested in getting to know an individual hop.

I purchased this one at the outstanding beer stall at the Borough Market in London. Highly recommend that place!

Bottle Date: 18.03.14
Opened: 22.04.14

A: This one poured a one finger white head with an aggressive pour which disappears into a ring and partial film. Light to medium cloudy amber.

S: Very hoppy. Citrus, blood orange, grapefruit. I get some cut grass too. I'm surprised at the amount of resin that I'm catching here. I guess this is an education in mosaic.

T: A little different than the nose. It is juicy with grapefruit citrus going on. It is a little cloying. Not much in terms of malt.

MF: A nice light and slightly creamy mouthfeel that works well for this beer.

O: Its the brewer's intention to showcase the hops on this one, and they do that nicely making a good beer, but it could have been more enjoyable if the malt added a little more complexity. I would however, definitely buy it again.

A: Poured to a tumblr To Øl glass in Cerveteca. Little to no foam resulting in a non-existing head with a yellow-esque cloudy body.
S: The aroma has a nice profile of pineapple and citrus.
T: The taste is majorly piny but it does have some minor citrusy profile with some pineapple attached.
M: I find the carbonation in this beer a bit harsh and "synthetic" but in the end I'd say it's good.
O: Well, this was my very first Kernel! And actually, the best APA I've ever had.
