First off, I have no idea why this is referred to as a Barleywine by CM...it's a DIPA. Nothing about it suggests American BW but hey, I'm not the brewer. Subjectively the beer is great, but it's not a Barleywine.

Looks great, clingy lacing and a medium amber color.

Smells like a hob bomb, which it is. All WC "C" hops, Centennial, Chinook & Citra so you get Citrus rind, slight pine and just dank hop oils.

Taste is all about the hops and follows the aroma. Loads of bitter, citrusy, leafy hop flavors pretty much pummels the tongue. Great body, easy to throw down for a 10% heavy-weight. Malt flavors are waaay mild and I just get some grainy, caramel-y notes in the background. Finish has oily, sticky hop notes and is bone-dry.

Recommended. Again, it's tough to rate as it's a very solid beer, but maybe their interpretation of barleywine is different than, well, most everyone else's.

Tastes more like a dipa to me...but that taste is incredible. And affordable. Really surprised me considering it's the first beer from these guys I really enjoyed. Definitely a go to for me now. Outstanding!

A twelve ounce can with a unreadable date/batch code poured in a 13oz. snifter.

Look- Pours a dark orange color with a small amount of off white foam.

Smell- Caramel malt along with some floral notes. A hint of spice hiding in back.

Taste- Caramel malt, pine, some grapefruit and floral flavor.

Feel- Slick and resiny with a slight bitterness.

Overall- A 10 percent barleywine in a can? Sign me up for this one! A tasty bargain at $9.99 a four pack and perfect for camping or out on the water. A nice niche filler of a beer.

Poured from can into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades super-fast leaving just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is sweet with lots of caramel and candied sugar which is mixed with some bready and slightly doughy smells. Along with these aromas are some lighter hop smells consisting mostly of pine and a little bit of grass.

Taste - The taste begins with a very bready taste that just has a little bit of a caramel and candied sugar sweetness. As the taste advances the sweetness fades all while a modest showing of hop and some fusel come to the tongue. The hop is of an herbal and grassy nature, but contains a little bit of pine and citrus as well. In the end, with all the flavor transitions, one is left with a slightly drier and modestly hopped, but slightly fusel and overly bready taste.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average to slightly thinner for a beer of 10 % abv and has a carbonation level that is rather low. The low carbonation is great for the bready taste, but thicker body may have been slightly better and created a slightly nicer feel overall.

Overall – If you like drier and modestly hopped barleywine’s then this may be for you. If not, then this is one to avoid.

12 oz can. Pours hazy reddish copper with a smallish off white head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts, fruit and some dank, resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet caramel and toffee with some fruit and a big resiny hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice hoppy barley wine.

L: slightly hazy copper tinted amber under a 1/2" cream colored cap with fair retention.

S: alcohol, dried fruit, ripe stone fruit, a trace of caramel and malt. I

T: Stone fruit, tropical fruit, caramel malt and light spice lead the flavors meeting a big assertive citrus pith bitterness by mid-palate quickly joined by alcohol, malt and fruit. The bitterness is medium to medium high, the alcohol is medium and the fruit is medium high.

F: The alcohol is not hot or harsh. The beer is full bodied with low to medium low carbonation and moderate alcohol warming.

O: For as big of a beer as this is, it is deceptively easy to drink.

12 oz can.
Strongly flavored and very complex. Hints of nutmeg, other spices, apple cider, apricots, peaches, moist brown bread, brown sugar and dark fruits pop up before the fruity, slightly earthy and boozy finish.

Pours a semi-hazed amber with a thumb+ of cream colored head. Only slightly above average head retention & lacing

S: Pineyness & breadyness, a little pineapple & mango once warm

T: Pineapple, pineyness, a little grassiness & cakeyness up front. Leafy hops, astringency as this warms, & more pineapple, some dryness & even a bit of peppery hops. Finishes with pineapple, grassy hops & just a bit of grapefruit & some pear showing up late to the party, with just a little boozey warmth

MF: Medium bodied, delicate carbonation, warming, skews too hoppy for the style

Drinks easy, but seems more like a DIPA to me, just not true to style enough. I've had plenty of hop forward American BWs that work, this drives too far out of the lane

12 ounce can poured into a pint glass

A: Pours dark honey orange, bright white head, head is creamy and full, very cloudy, slight lacing, some carbonation.

A: Getting a lot of hops, especially for a barley wine, piney, resin, sweet toffee and caramel malts, big pungent aromas, smells piney and sweet, no alcohol on the nose.

T: Hit of piney hop bitterness up front, toffee and caramel, malts, finish is dry, aftertaste is of piney hops with hints of toffee, there is some heat from the alcohol, solid brew.

M: Medium bodied with a dry finish, good amount of carbonation.

O: This almost drinks like a IIPA but it's too sweet, solid beer I picked up as an extra in a trade, it's a little hot, but overall, I really enjoyed this one.

Head is a deep tan tone. Body settles to a light amber color. Nose full of prickly hops and noticeable grainy malts. The taste comes through a little thin for the style. Both the hops and malt play together nicely in the flavor though. On the plus side this is a very approachable barleywine.
