Pours dark brown with a fluffy mocha head and decent lacing. Aroma is coffee, cheap chocolate, and roasted malts. The coffee is nice, the base beer is unimpressive. Flavor is quite similar; coffee jumps out and stays on top, some crappy chocolate and roastiness are there, and it closes out with some welcomed charred bitterness. A medium bodied, somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Overall, one of those beers that on tap, at a local brewery tap room isn't that bad. But via a bottle, at home and with access to plenty other beers, disapointing. Without the coffee to this beer, probably a beer I would not have finished.

12 oz can.
Looks like used motor oil on the pour.
Short-lived beige head.
Dark roasted grains with hops and coffee grinds in the nose. The flavor follows except for a heavy dose of burnt grains and very dark coffee.
Smooth, full, lightly carbonated body.

22 oz bottle. Pours black brown with a medium fluffy tan head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet grainy malts with a little acidic coffee.

The flavor does not have a lot going on - some acidic roasted grains with a little stale coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.

Overall, I had this on nitro tap and it seemed really washed out. The bottled version is sadly the same. Roasted acidic grains with no real flavors and no real coffee to be seen.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Black with a thin beige head

Smell: Coffee and malts

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth full bodied. Taste of coffee and hint of chocolate with malts.

Overall: Good stout, taste like I'm just drinking a coffee.

Black in color and impenetrable to light. There's a half inch of densely packed brown head resting on top. The aroma is of dark and lightly bitter roasted coffee and chocolate. The taste is much more bitter than the nose implies with an aftertaste of dark, bitter coffee, toffee and dark chocolate that lingers a bit. The mouth is oily and warm.

Pours a fairly effervescent mahogany with 3 fingers of fluffy tan head. Good head retention & head retention

S: Coffee & roastyness

T: Follows the nose, roasty, dry with a little cocoa up front. More dryness, roastyness, carob as this warms. Finishes with coffee grinds, dryness & charred grain, a little bit of woody & herbal hops

MF: Light/medium body, semi-firm carbonation

Drinks pretty easy, a pretty good take, not a great one

The coffee is to present in this coffee stout. Reminds me of a cold cup of coffee. You can't really taste the base beer at all, it's all coffee. It has potential, just needs more stout. I would like to try this next year to see if they change it.

3-6-16 - On tap at Tellers in Golden, CO after a loooong drive home fro Beaver Creek with Todd and Miles. Served in a large, dimpled, pineapple mug with little to no head. Nice coffee stout, however viscosity was a bit thinner than I hoped. Taste was great, but mouthfeel was less than I had hoped.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. No readable freshness date.

A- Pours a 99% opaque black color with a 1/4 inch dark tan head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate with a metallic smell overlaying.

T- Burnt Folgers coffee flavor that's bitter and bordering on acrid. Not much sweetness going on here which would actually help tip the scales away from the intense roastiness. Unpleasant bitter aftertaste.

M- Thin and lifeless with medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- Yep, the reviews are correct. I love coffee beers and this one is a failure. Cheap coffee flavors with nothing else to accompany it, brewing flaws apparent in the nose and a limp mouthfeel. It's becoming clear that the only decent beer these guys make is Lawyers, Guns & Money, which isn't even that good to begin with.

A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with a short dark beige head that died down, leaving lacing on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark roasted coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is dominated by lots of flavors of dark and roasted coffee beans, which continue through the finish and linger in to the aftertaste; only faint bits of malts are perceptible. There is a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has slightly thin with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a little thin and light in body for a stout but makes for a good breakfast beer with all of the coffee aromas and flavors.
