Better than Sculpin. If you want a better beer than this off a store shelf, then get the Grapefruit Solis. The only better regular IPA I've had has been at a local brewery that doesn't bottle their beer.

Very good. Nice hoppy taste but not floral.

Poured can into Lost Abbey Teku

A-Pours crystal clear orange with a three finger off-white head that is creamy and dissipates with nice lacing.

S-Aroma is light grass, citrus, and passion fruit. Very nice.

T-Flavor is full and firm with unwavering hoppy goodness. I get sweet juicy passion fruit and orange wedges that are surrounded by resiny pine and bitter grapefruit hops.

M-Medium body, creamy front and grainy at the end. Very nice carbonation.

O-My first time having Hess, reminds me of OTWOA! If this is a example of their work, I will buy more.

Tried it really fresh (straight from the brewer).

Appearance: Very cloudy straw with a fat white head that left plenty of lace.

Smell: Strong floral and piney hops.

Taste: Bitterness is pronounced right up front, balanced well by a dry malt backbone. Alcohol is imperceptible, just some residual hop flavor at the end.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and carbonation.

Overall: By the book strong West Coast IPA (I probably would not be able to tell it apart from many others). Very good when fresh.

Round 1-Value
Mike Hess @ $9.49 per 4pk-16 oz. cans @ 7.5% ABV (.15 cents per oz.)

Round 2-Aroma
Mike Hess: Light pine, heavy florals and bright citrus aromas

Round 3-Flavor
Mike Hess: Dry hops and citrus notes

Round 4-Finish
Mike Hess: 1:15-1:30 seconds

Round 5-Packaging
Mike Hess: The hess 16 oz. can displays the Hess “H” on the company logo’s shield with two golden lions flanking it on the front. The back of the can contains the level of malt/hops and light/dark color measurable in 1 to 5 point units. The best thing about this packaging is the “open mike” feature of the can. The pop-top is a “360 degree end, [which] pulls off for flavor and convenience, no glass needed.” The back of the can also provides tasting notes and a QR code to find specific batch information.

Mike Hess Brewing Co. has delivered a stellar IPA at a fantastic price with awesome packaging, flavors, and aromas.

Great beer. Despite being fooled into thinking the dude from Social Distortion brewed this, it had great carbonation and a very citrus forward taste. Well worth checking out and sampling.

Can dated 0276 into a nonic pint. Pours a golden yellow with 1+ finger of white head that left substantial lacing. Nose HEAVY citrus. Taste matches the nose with some bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, carbonation good, and the finish quite dry and astringent. Solid, but I prefer the Grapefruit Solis.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 02/07/17
ABV: 7.5%

Poured into a Squatters true pint glass a pretty nice hazy golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which also leaves some pretty nice thick/creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, citrusy, piney. The taste is hoppy, citrusy, with some nice pineyness. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty IPA. My 2nd from this brewery.
