May 3rd, 2016 - I'm not sure which recipe number this is, but Hess' Grapefruit Solis clocks in as a classic, North Park IPA. It smells of freshly squeezed and zested grapefruit, and the carbonation just barely tickles the nose. Fruity and direct, it's straightforward but not too simple. The flavor is also direct. with a slightly flat palate today (a surprise!) but compensated with the extremely fresh grapefruit aromas.

Appearance: Pours clear and a light amber color with a full three finger head; great stickage and gobs of splashy lacing

Smell: Grapefruit and caramel tones intermingle

Taste: A nice caramel malt backbone underpins a burgeoning grapefruit flavor; through the middle, the citrus turns pithy, bringing increasing bitterness to offset the caramel sweet tones

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: A well-constructed West Coast IPA; they don't often make them like this anymore

Thanks, kevindp9, for the opportunity

Bomber poured into a wine glass. We realized after we bought this that it was 6 months old. Great look - crystal-clear golden color with a creamy white head. Great retention. Aroma was bright grapefruit pith and not much else. The taste was better than expected - a nice bitter grapefruit flavor and a bready malt backbone. Not nearly as malty as I expected. Medium bodied and dry. Would love to try this one fresh.

Clear rich gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of grapefruit first and it's a very fresh scent with a touch of orange in the background.

Taste on entry is boldly grapefruit intermingled with hops that come across as both sharply citrus and firmly hoppy without going overboard either way. The best way I can describe the overall flavor is there's a lot of it and it's all good. There's plenty of malt in there as well, just singing more softly than the brighter flavors.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

This is a big, beautiful strawberry blonde with personality and great curves.

A: Deep gold with rich white head and sticky lacing.
S: Wow the nose is awesome, rich grapefruit/citrus, hops, and lemon zest.
T: Follows the nose, the flavors are so rich and no bite. This could be one of my top Grapefruit style IPA.
M: Light/Medium
O: Fantastic IPA, all flavor minimal bite, smooth sailing. Recommended to me and it was worth the purchase.

i have seen this around in colorado a little bit since these guys have come around i think, certainly seen some mike hess stuff, but it took a trip to california to actually get into it. this really impressed me, surprisingly awesome, i dont know why i expected less from it, but its exceptional. the grapefruit really jumps out in the nose of the draft pour, fresh and zesty, more natural but also more intense than almost any other beer i have had in this style, and there are a whole lot of them out there now. its fleshy and tart and acidic even a little bit in the flavor, incredibly honest. i like how it cuts through the sturdier malt base here, its refreshing for its size, and the balance is awesome. the brilliance here is the grapefruit and the hops together, more softly citrusy hops here, lemony, they accent the grapefruit and the grapefruit accents them. its insanely fresh tasting, and really clean for being kind of stronger. bitterness lingers a little with the fruit at the end, along with a light vegetal grassiness from the hops. wonderfully high carbonation too and dryness for a fruit beer. this is a winner, and i will buy it when i see it next!

Canned 6/23/17
Drank from the open top can.

Strong grapefruit scent, smells like they got a whole grapefruit in each can. Hard to detect hops.
Orange color with minimal lacing on the inside of the can.
Very smooth feel in mouth, grapefruit flavor comes close to overpowering the beer.
Bitter finish, imagine orange/grapefruit zest in liquid form.

Overall, a very grapefruit dominant beer. Very light and flavorful, but lacking in hops. Interesting flavor that keeps me coming back for another sip.

Drank from the can as recommended, love the "open mike" can idea. Not the first time drinking this brew. Everything from MHB is excellent! Nice golden orange look in he can. Fruity smelling with hints of grapefruit. Taste is a wonderful mix of grapefruit with a bit of bitterness from the hips but nothing that overpowers the palette. Drinks smooth and finishes with a grapefruit/orange flavor. Another solid offering from SoCal. Thanks MHB!
